Out of all of them Kankurou looked the most like their father. He had the man's sharp, refined features, slant-like eyes, and unruly mud-colored hair. It was, perhaps, the main reason he continued to don the ceremonial face paint that Suna warriors wore when they came of age. It separated him from his father, blurred his motherless features into something distinctly his own; all with a few smears of purple paint.
He hated his father, but it was a quiet, reserved hatred because, as Temari had once told him point blank, he had no right to. It was no secret that Kankurou had been their father's favorite; a point Temari would sometimes sneer during a particularly spiteful altercation between them. As there was no retort to this, Kankurou would merely clench his fists in silent, shameful fury and count the ways he was unlike the man they mutually despised. They never apologized to each other, but with a stiff nod and a pot of tea between them all was (usually) resolved.
"You know, if you took that face paint off once in awhile you might actually attract a girl," Temari would sometimes say as she stirred sugar into her tea. Kankurou could never be sure if this was a last dig or a backhanded compliment so he'd merely sip his own in response.
The man, though ruthless, had been quite handsome after all.
In the future I will probably embark upon the complexities about everyone's favorite Suna family, but for now….
Hope you enjoyed!
