Chapter Five: Rescue Me

Reid held his head in his hands, starring out the window of the lunch room. The food before him had been long forgotten and all the blonde could focus on was getting though the day. Lately he’d been so tired, physically and mentally. Between having a boyfriend who wouldn’t even touch you to staying up late with him whimpering over some unknown adversary really took a toll on Reid’s appearance. Sighing, he laid his head in his arms.

The whole morning Tyler never said a single word to the blonde. He could remember changing and feeling the tension in the room so thick as if he were to take a knife to it, he feared his whole stability would fall to pieces. The boy that Reid loved was gone, gone before they even had a chance together, and now he was left with this lifeless being that resembled the face of innocents. Reid still loved him, but this isn’t what he signed up for.

“Reid,” Caleb said standing over the younger. “We need to talk.”

“What now?” He snapped, “and I don’t know where Tyler is.” Reid sharply added. Sitting back in his seat, he looked to his right where Caleb sat down. The older teen leaned forward so his elbows were resting on his knees and looked at Reid in the eye. “What?”

“How have you been?” Startled by the question, Reid looked away, trying to find something to look at other than Caleb. “Reid.”

Reid blinked once, twice, before answering the elder’s question. “Honestly?” Caleb nodded solemnly. “I don’t really know, I mean school is weighing me down lately and then with everything with Tyler…” Reid didn’t know what possessed Caleb to consol him, but he was thankful for it. Now a day, all the older boys were worried about was Tyler. Never once have they checked on Reid. “Why do you ask?”

“You’re grades are slipping.” Contrary to belief, Next to Tyler, Reid was one of the smarter kids in their class as a whole. No one would have ever expected Reid Garwin to be in AP Calculus AB and BC in his sophomore year with Tyler Simms, but there he was. And Passing!

“I know.” He sighed in defeat.

“Why didn’t you come to me earlier?” Reaching out, Caleb pressed his palm to the side of Reid’s face and frowned when the younger jerked away, similar to Tyler antics.

“Not like you would’ve listened!” The younger snapped, sharply. Standing on his feet now, Reid glared down at Caleb. Pushing the older boy back, Reid poked him in the chest, emphasizing each of his words to make them more punctual.

“Why wouldn’t he have listened?” Pogue injected form behind the blonde, making him feel trapped between his older brothers. “We’re always here for you guys, Reid. You and Tyler.”

“Doesn’t always seem that way,” he mumbled while sitting back down in his seat. Placing his head in his hands once again, Reid felt Pogue occupy the seat next to him, again trapping him between the two. “I honestly don’t know how much more I can take. The last few weeks I’ve seriously thought about breaking up with him. I feel so guilty for it too; I loved him so much but now it hurts me so much to just watch him waste away.” Reid’s words became shaky under the strain. “You two just don’t know how much that fucker messed him up. I’ve seen him burry himself in his studies before, but never like this. He’ll stay up all night long, just starring. I don’t know what to do anymore, guys.”

Caleb felt helpless. He had no idea the extent of Daren’s doings had done to Tyler. By the perplexed look on Pogue’s face, neither did he. Sighing, Caleb connected his eyes with Pogue’s for a long moment before glancing over his shoulder out in the mid March weather. Snow.

The Covenant—

Slowly rising to his feet, body numb with the cold, he slowly forced his feet to glide across the snow towards this Denali. His bloody lip stung, and his head was sore. Everything hurt. Adjusting his books in his arms, Tyler pressed forwards towards his SUV. Physically exhausted, he stumbled a few feet shy of his vehicle and crashed.

Aggravated, he pounded his fist into the pavement and whimpered when his knuckles split. Flexing his fingers, the brunette suddenly realized how much he hated the color red. But as much as he hated it, he couldn’t tare his eyes away from the pooling liquid on the back of his hand. He was mystified by his glory, and felt the need to see more.

“No,” he harshly told himself. Picking himself up quickly, Tyler threw his books into the back seat and tore off down the street towards his dorm room for the afternoon’s lunch hour. He needed to get away from everyone and just lock himself away until the Boogie Man decided to go torture someone else.

Entering the student entrance for the LBC, Tyler raced up the stairs, missing the few stray eyes that followed him. He tripped a few times, but managed to catch himself on the railing. When his thundering feet finally reached the top floor, Tyler heaved a heavy sigh. He hated how he was always so tired. Even at practice, he always felt like he was bringing everyone down with him.

We’re as strong as our weakest swimmer,” Coach Vassalotti always commented before every practice.

I’m weak.

Falling hard onto his bed, Tyler buried his head into his pillow and bit down to keep himself from screaming. Brining his face up for a quick puff of fresh air, Tyler’s eye caught Reid’s hoodie lying on the floor. Moaning, he lifted himself from his bed and made towards the raiment, discarded for later use. Bending over, and gently taking the orange hoodie that belonged to Reid, Tyler stood and brought it to his chest.

Reid…He missed him. He missed hanging around the blonde and not being afraid. He’d even stretch to say that he missed Caleb and Pogue; but most of all, he missed Reid and his soft kisses as of late. Sitting

on the edge of his bed, Tyler brought the article of clothing up to his face and took a long breath, inhaling Reid’s redolent that reminded him of the ocean. If he thought about it hard enough, Tyler could remember the sea-salty taste of Reid’s skin, and the slippery, wet feeling that left his senses tingling with every touch.

But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t allow himself to be touched by the blonde. “No,” he reminded himself. Thinking of his mother, and father, Tyler knew that when anyone even brushed up against him, they would be forever taken away from existence.

Feeling like he couldn’t breathe, Tyler threw the orange hoodie towards the door and cried out in frustration. He hated feeling this way. Hated it! He was so cold, tired, and emotionless all the time and he missed his old life—in so many ways. He wanted to feel his older brother against him, holding him and just reminding him that he was human. He missed all those little no-nothings that he’d fallen in love with.

But lately Reid has been staying out with a new group of friends, as he called them, and coming home drunk, or too tired to even care. Tyler would lay awake, waiting for his lover to come home at nights, just wanting the blonde to be okay. Safe.

You did this… a foreign voice echoed about in his ears. You pushed him away. You weren’t good enough for him; no one cares.

“It’s not true,” he sobbed loudly, burring his face into the pillow beneath him. “He still wants me! He’d promise he’d wait for me!”

Startled when the dorm room door slowly opened, Tyler whirled his head towards his blonde haired, brown eyed roomy. Too thrilled to see Reid, Tyler discarded the fact that he looked so much different… taller, perhaps? “Reid,” he said softly.

The blonde said nothing. He just crossed the room quickly before pushed Tyler flat on his back and latching his mouth onto the younger’s. Loving the feeling of Tyler struggling against him, Reid took his opportunity to straddle the boy, pinning his wrists above his head.

“Stop it, Reid, you—please!” Whimpering loudly his brother bit into the olive colored skin, Tyler buckled under the blondes grasp. He pled for the swimmer to stop, halt his assault on the younger’s prone body. Images of Daren flashed through his head, making him scream in terror, knowing what was to come in the all-too-soon future. “No…”

Hours later, Tyler found himself battered and beaten. The sheet tangled around his feet made him feel itchy with the sin that was committed upon his body. Reid had claimed to of loved him, he even promised he’d wait for Tyler! But lying there, defeated, Tyler could only shake, wondering when the blonde would return.

Sick to his stomach, Tyler, for once, ignored his afternoon classes of Trigonometry, AP Chemistry and AP Government. He was already falling farther and farther behind in all his classes, why not skip a day; no

one would notice—no one would care! For all his teachers now cared for was the new exchange student from some East Asian country whom could barely speak English. No one cared anymore.

Biting into his lip more, Tyler waited for another tremor of pain to ride through his body. He felt like he was stuck on the back of a horse, which refused to stop bucking until he was free. Tyler wanted to be free. But everything around him felt faint and different. His own breath felt like someone else’s, the beat of his heart reminded him of someone else. Nothing was his own.

But deep down, he could feel his old self tarring towards the surface. The raw power, bestowed down upon him by his father, the human shell could feel the power coursing through his veins, lying in wake to be unleashed upon humanity and tare to shreds the little that the unremitting community had to offer.

Swallowing thickly, the young swimmer could only grip his sheets tightly, willing the power to remain at bay. There was only so much he could do, but when that dorm door opened once again, and there was Reid, looking a lot shorter and his eyes so much more bluer, did he feel his muscles twinge.

“Are you okay?” Reid asked loudly. His presence was closer now, Tyler could feel him. They were close. “Oh God, your bleeding, Ty.”

Monster…

“Come on, snap out of it baby boy!”

Reid…

“Tyler!”

Rescue me.
