Sam was breaking, as the ice in his heart cracked and broke under the pressure, he himself was breaking. He had started hunting again, foolishly by himself. Anything supernatural he could get his hands on he made it suffer, die slowly. He knew that this would never bring his father back, never bring back the broken bits of his heart, lost forever.

I wanted you to know I love the way you laugh

I wanna hold you high and steal your pain away

Delilah was horrified by Sam’s sudden irrationality. He himself had become dangerous, to himself and everyone around him. It was killing him, his grief. She could feel it with every fiber of her being. They were linked now emotionally and physically, what Sam didn’t understand was that while his grief and suffering was killing him he was unintentionally killing his love as well.

I keep your photograph; I know it serves me well

I wanna hold you high and steal your pain

Delilah in the few months had passed since John’s death, had lost her zest for life. Her soul, linked with Sam’s, was broken. She had drastically dropped weight, her already, lean frame, becoming fragile. Her honey became pale, her hair dull, but her eyes told the whole story. She was broken.

‘Cause I’m broken when I’m open

And I don’t feel like I am strong enough

‘Cause I’m broken when I’m lonesome

And I don’t feel light when you’re gone away

Sam barely noticed Delilah anymore she was just another face in his clouded world, just another mundane expression not breeching the surface of his pain. He walked through life never noticing the small changes around him.

The worst is over now and we can breathe again

I wanna hold you high, you steal my pain away

There’s so much left to learn, and no one left to fight

I wanna hold you high and steal your pain

Dean had tried talking to Sam, but Sam refused. His abilities taking in the heat of the situation and shatter the windows out if the kitchen. Delilah moved out of their bedroom taking up residence in the guest room. She couldn’t help him; her Sam was gone, replaced by a dangerous, erratic, hunter. He lacked passion, love, and most importantly life. He was a zombie with Sam’s face.

‘Cause I’m broken when I’m open

And I don’t feel like I am strong enough

‘Cause I’m broken when I’m lonesome

And I don’t feel right when you’re gone away

One warm afternoon, Delilah sat on the front porch of the house, taking in the warmth of the sun. She heard the rumble of Sam’s truck coming p the drive. She got up from the from the wicker chair and made her way to the driveway. The truck halted in front of her and the engine died. Sam stumbled out, blood oozed from a wound at his temple. She rushed to him, the smell of alcohol hitting her like a brick wall. The pungent tang, stinging her nose. She placed a hand on Sam’s are. His glazed eyes flickered to her face with a look of fury. Delilah felt strong pressure push into her. She hit the tree behind her and cried out in pain as her head hit the sharp bark.

‘Cause I’m broken when I’m open

And I don’t feel like I am strong enough

Delilah left that afternoon. She packed her belongings and loaded them into her Jeep. Dean had tried to stop her but in the end agreed that it was for the best. She hugged Dean and Caede goodbye. She took Brayden from Caede’s arms, kissing his cheek and whispering a prayer into his ear. He handed him back to Caede with tears in her eyes and turned to Dean. “Tell him I love him…” she said as a single cold tear ran a glistening track down her face. She pulled herself into the Jeep, and pulled away, not looking back.

‘Cause I’m broken when I’m lonesome

And I don’t feel light when you’re gone away
