Hello again, whoever is reading this. I do realize that it's been more than forever since I've updated this but... at least I am. This story isn't a really big deal to me anymore, so I'm just doing what I can... Thank you for reading, whoever is.

Chapstick and Whatnot

Chapter 4

I could see from my seat that Sora was waiting patiently for an answer, but then he suddenly looked away from Shelby to look at the girl next to her. Of course I was really curious as to why he kept looking at Kairi instead of focusing on Shelby, but I doubt I’ll ever understand guys anyway. The good thing was that since Sora was distracted, it gave the girls time to think up an excuse.

“She can’t go and get me popcorn, because we are in the middle of the movie.” I hear Kairi lie to him, and he seemed to accept it as the truth. But then from the corner of my eye, I could see him start to rise from his seat.

“Oh okay, I’ll get it for you then.” Sora simply stated and got up and out into the concession area before either of the girls could respond. They looked at each in confusion, but then smiled in relief.

“Wow that was close, thanks Kairi!” Shelby said, obviously relieved and Kairi just smiled in response. Shelby sank back into her chair and watched the movie while waiting for Sora to return. Once sure that Shelby wasn’t looking, Kairi allowed herself to show her real emotions.

I could tell just from her smile that Sora’s little deed for her made her happy. I think… I think that Kairi is starting to develop some feelings for Sora. And I’m also starting to think that Sora is feeling the same way. I couldn’t help, but imagine them as a couple and actually… they’d look good together.

Within a few minutes, Sora returned with the popcorn, and despite the steady crunches of Shelby, Sora, and Kairi eating the kennels, the rest of the movie went by without any distractions. That is besides the fact that Roxas couldn’t quit touching the ring on my finger.

When the movie ended, we all got up from our seats and walked up the pathway to the outside of the theater. Of course, I was a little wobbly because I had been sitting down for so long, and also the pathways are always kinda on an incline. I lost my balance of times, but Roxas grabbed me and took my hand to keep me balanced.

“That was great!” I exclaimed happily as soon as we all were outside. Many other couples and families were leaving at the same time we were and so it was kinda crowed.

Roxas looked over at me and smiled before reaching in and giving me a tender kiss. Surprisingly, my mom had actually managed to stay awake throughout the entire movie. And from the complaints I heard coming from the couple in front of Roxas and I, Selphie was now more confused than ever about the movie. But I’m sure she didn’t mind it too much because she had Tidus with her.

I motioned to Kairi that I was gonna walk with Roxas to his truck to say good night. She gave me a thumps up and got inside my mom’s van along with everyone else. Roxas and I couldn’t stop smiling at each other, but I felt kinda sad when we did reach his truck. It meant we would have to say good bye.

“Happy birthday Naminé…” Roxas gently said to me. Our hands tied together, never wanting to let go. His finger rubbed against the ring one last time before letting go. Then he started to put his arms around me and bring me closer to him.

I only smiled at him. I loved Roxas… and tonight was probably the best birthday ever. I met him in a short kiss, which I wished lasted for a lot longer. But I knew it was time for him to.

“Good bye Roxas.” I said to him and turned to go. He caught me in one last kiss before letting me go and entering his truck. Oh how I wished that I could have gone with him to wherever he was going… Just be with him. But, I had guests to take of first. I walked away from where Roxas’s truck just was, and headed over to my other friends. Shelby was waiting for me right next to the theater.

“I gotta get going too. My mom’s here to pick me up. Happy Birthday Naminé.” Shelby explained and motioned to her mother’s car. Shelby had her permit so her mom was in the passenger seat waiting for Shelby to take the wheel.

“Thanks. I hope you had a good time too. You have to give me details later!” I winked at her and she so easily blushed. I laughed gently and waved good-bye as she got into the mom and began to drive off.

After doing so, I walked over to mom’s van where Sora, Selphie, Kairi, Tidus, and my mom were all waiting. I apologized for talking so long and took the front seat beside my mom. Selphie and Tidus took the middle seats and held hands the entire car ride. Sora and Kairi were stuffed in the back of van together by themselves. I wondered what they were doing back there… especially since I could tell that they actually like each other.

Sora’s house was the first stop since he lived the closer to the theater. I gave mom directions to his house while everybody else in the car just talked. Especially Selphie. I’m sure she kept everybody awake even though it was quickly reaching 1 AM in the morning by this time. The movie was very long and we could only make it to the late one.

We soon reached Sora’s house and he began to climb out of the van slowly, but I think he was hesitant to leave actually. I watched and smiled as I saw Kairi’s and Sora’s eye meet one last time before he got out and stood beside the passenger seat window where I was. I rolled down the window for him to talk.

“Happy Birthday Naminé. Thanks for inviting me.” He said politely, but I could tell that he was trying to look behind me the entire time. I didn’t press him about it then, but I made a mental note later to ask him what he felt about Kairi after only one meeting.

“You’re welcome Sora. Thanks for coming.” I said back and waved good-bye to him. I rolled the window back up after he started walking to his house. He gave one final wave before disappearing into his house. My mom took the moment to see where to drive to next.

So Kairi, you’re next right?” My mom asked my friend, but Kairi seemed to be in another world and didn’t hear my mom. Everybody started looking back at her, and the stares eventually made her snap out of it.

“Huh what? Why is everybody staring at me?” She asked without a clue. Everybody in the van laughed, and I took the moment to answer my mom’s question for her.

“Yeah mom. Kairi’s house is next.” I couldn’t help, but let out a laugh answering though. This was one of the reason I loved Kairi as if she were my own sister. Since I didn’t have one, she completely made up for it. She was really a blonde at heart, though she had auburn hair and I was the blonde.

A lot of people has said that we could be twins though. Everything except our hair color was very similar, and more than once I’ve seen people do a double take when they pass us. It’s pretty funny actually.

Soon, mom was already driving along and Tidus and Selphie were busy being… Tidus and Selphie. I noticed that Kairi was being abnormally quiet and I could quickly guess what was on her mind.

Probably something along the longs of, ‘Shelby likes him. I can’t like him…’ I felt really sorry for her. Because it really seemed as if Kairi and Sora had already hit off, but Shelby did really like him… I guess we’ll just have to see how everything plays out.

I started thinking about everything that had happened that day when my pocket started vibrated. Roxas had texted me.

‘I miss you…’ was what the message said. I could feel the blood rush to my face and my stomach become filled with that sappy fluffy feeling. Roxas really was the most wonderful boyfriend ever. I love him so much.

I began texting back, and we kept a conversation until we finally reached Kairi’s house. Mom expertly pulled into Kairi’s driveway.

“Bye Kairi, thanks for coming tonight.” I told her sincerely as she left the van. She just smiled that huge smile she always had on.

“Thanks for inviting me! I had a lot of fun tonight! Call me sometime!” Kairi said happily and went to her house. Something in the way she said that made she think she had something really important to tell me later.

Tidus was the next one off, and the last one before we could go home because that night Selphie was spending the night with me. Since Tidus lived fairly close to me, we reached his house in no time at all. Tidus got all his stuff together as we pulled up.

“Bye Tidus and thanks for coming.” I told him as he got out of the van. Out of the corner of my eye, I watched Selphie jump out of the van and hugged him and kissed him good bye.

The rest of the short ride home, Selphie was actually quiet for once and I was still just texting Roxas so it was silent in the van except for the clicking of my phone.

When we finally pulled up to my house, I finally could tell why Selphie was so silent. The hyperness was wearing off so now she was drained of any energy.

“Maybe I should eat more of that cookie…” Selphie started to mumble, apparently she figured that would solve her lack of energy, however I didn't see that as a good thing.

“Oh no, no, no, you aren't eating any more of mybirthday cookie! Not tonight!” I shouted. If she got her hands on it, who knows how long we'd be up that night!

Selphie just laughed, understanding my fear of having a hyper Selphie in my house. Somehow though, we still stayed up that night giggling about our boyfriends, among many other things.

This has to be the best birthday I had ever had.
