Curses Are Meant To Be Broken

Chapter 1: In Which a Horrible Event Happens

“Good morning everyone!” gushed Tohru as the three male occupants of the house trudged down the stairs, all very drowsy, Yuki the most.

“Why’d you wake us up, dammit?” muttered Kyo while rubbing one of his amber-orange eyes.

“I’m sorry, I just really wanted to share something with you.” She explained vaguely, her blue eyes sparkling.

“And what would that be?” Shigure questioned trying hard not to fall asleep standing.

“I want to show you the sunrise!” Tohru squealed while throwing her arms in the air enthusiastically.

All three of the men stared at her with bewilderment.

“Come on!” Tohru continued to exclaim as she took Kyo and Yuki both by the hand, snapping Yuki out of his drowsiness.

Shigure chucked as he watched Tohru drag both blushing boys to the roof as he followed close by.

“That was a beautiful sunrise, don’t you guys think?” Tohru asked a little while after as she dished out breakfast, careful not to spill anything.

“It was fine.” Kyo commented roughly.

“It was very delightful.” Yuki beamed, showing a small smile.

“But may I ask, Tohru, why you chose today to watch the sunrise, why not yesterday? Today is a school day after all…” Shigure pondered while sipping at his morning tea that Tohru had just brewed him.

“Because today’s my birthday, and it was always a tradition of me and my mom that we watch the sunrise.” she explained happily while taking some dishes up to the sink to wash.

“What the hell?! Why didn’t you tell us sooner or I-we would have done something sp-uh…never mind!” Kyo exclaimed, cutting himself off from further embarrassment, but blushing already.

“Yes, we would have done something special for you Tohru.” Yuki added calmly while eating his rice.

“I just didn’t want to worry you.” Tohru said smiling.

Tohru casually glanced at the clock, but dropped a pot in the sink with a loud bang when she saw the time.

“What is it?” Kyo and Yuki asked at the same time.

“Oh no! I promised I’d meet Hanajima and Arisa at school early today! They said they had something planned for me!” she gasped as she realized she only had about ten minutes.

“I am very sorry, but I’ll clean up after school.” Tohru breathlessly exclaimed as she grabbed her bag and raced out the door.

“Dammit! Her friends are doing something and WE’RE not?!” Kyo yelled to no one in particular, a vein popping out of his head.

“Just as she said, Tohru didn’t want to bother us.” Shigure assured while continuing to read the paper, a small smile on his lips.

“I swear, if I see Tohru being selfish for once it’ll be a sign of the apocalypse…stupid girl…” Kyo muttered to himself as he walked up the stairs to get ready for school.

Yuki sat motionless, staring at his food blankly before, he too, excused him self from the table to get ready for school.

‘I’m going to do something for her today…’ both Kyo and Yuki thought oddly together at the same time.

“Ah…young love is so pure, just like the first snow in winter…clouding all the senses and smothering the mind peacefully…” Shigure said to himself dreamily with sparkling eyes.

“I need to write that down!” he yelled as he searched the house for some paper and a pen, which he found to be a very hard task.

“Oh my goodness, look at all the presents!” Tohru said with happiness as she looked at her desk, which was covered in flowers, chocolate, and little presents.

“What?!” Kyo growled, tearing through all the presents, almost all from boys.

“I hadn’t realized that you’d become so popular…” Yuki said, trying to control his jealously, which Kyo was having a difficult time with at the moment.

“Did you give a present to Tohru? Well? Did you?” he questioned a boy in the classroom.

“Heck yeah, she’s hot!” the boy laughed, as though it was a natural tradition to give her a gift.

The boy didn’t know what was coming when he was jammed against a wall, held by the collar of his shirt.

“Kyo, please, it’s alright.” Tohru tried to calm him down by putting a hand on his tense shoulder.

Her touch immediately made Kyo drop the boy, making him hit the ground with a thud.

Kyo looked away blushing, as Tohru smiled at him, her arm still rested on his shoulder.

“I’m very sorry for my friend’s actions.” Tohru apologized for Kyo, doing a small bow.

“Settle down class!” yelled the young teacher as she entered the classroom. And so began another normal day at school, or so it seemed…

“Goodbye!” Tohru called from the doorway of the classroom, waving.

“Goodbye, and Happy Birthday again!” Called Hanajima and Arisa together as Yuki waved back. Hanajima and Arisa had cleaning duty while Yuki had to do some student council stuff. So that left only a bubbly Tohru and a still slightly annoyed Kyo.

“So what do you want to do when we get home?” Tohru asked when they started down the long road back home.

“I should be asking you that.” Kyo muttered under his breath.

“What?” She questioned, bringing her face up to his. He moved his face back, red already on his face. “Nothing.” He mumbled, but loud enough for her to hear.

There was silence for a few minutes before Tohru broke it again.

“Do you want to make onigiri?” she finally questioned as she gazed at the white clouds that floated in the blue sky.

Kyo looked at her tranquil face and softened his face before looking at the sky also and replying “Sounds good.”

She looked up, slightly startled at his soft voice. He looked down at her face again and, contradictory to his usual attitude, actually gave her a sincere smile, it was small, but it made Tohru suck in her breath.

And just as she was smiling back, she felt her body being wretched away from him-from his warm smile.

She felt someone hit her head and she fell into unconsciousness, but as she did, she could hear Kyo calling her name, his voice thick with concern and anger.

Tohru woke again some time later, but found that she was in a dark, small room. She jolted up from her lying down position, only to sink back down because of the intense pain that shot into her head, making her moan in pain.

After a minute of saying still, the pain slowly eased away and she sat up again, this time much more slowly. She tried to look around the room, but found that she could see nothing because of the pitch-black darkness.

She stood up on shaky legs and stumbled around until she found a wall, which she leaned on, slightly panting.

“Where am I?” she whispered to herself as she turned her head around once again, desperately hoping for any kind of light.

“You, my little dear Tohru, are with me.” The voice said, echoing within the room for a minute before finally fading away.

Kyo groaned as he stumbled, almost crawled, back home, his once white uniform now splotched with a large amount of red and tattered.

As he walked through the paper door, he found Shigure quietly reading.

“Shigure…” He managed to gasp as he leaned against the entrance of the door heavily, trying to keep his balance.

Shigure looked up casually, but then bolted up and raced over to him once he saw his drastic condition.

“Kyo, what the hell happened?” he swore, lying him down on the floor, looking over his torn body.

“He…he took her…” he wheezed as Shigure took off his shirt, inspecting his wounds.

“What?” He questioned, hoping Kyo didn’t mean…

“Akito…took Tohru…” Kyo managed to say before dropping off into unconsciousness.

“Who are you?” Tohru demanded shakily, barely raising her voice.

“Akito, my dear. And I highly doubt that when I’m done with you, you’ll even remember the name when you’re dead…”
