Chapter Thirteen

Two of Us

It took certain a lot amount of time for Sarah to convince the Doctor to get back in chatting with Harry again. Sarah was relieved that the Doctor had finally agreed with her argument (after he had another session of bitching and whining). The poor girl was close into slapping him across the face; just knock more sense into him. Luckily, she didn’t have to do it. The two of them made their way back to UNIT.

Benton eventually caught up with them, the Doctor seemed a bit livelier than before, he even managed to pull off a smile. Sarah even mad a joke about his smile, ‘that must have cracked your face’ she told him, which made his smile turn into a nervous grin. Benton stared coldly at the Doctor from behind, knowing what he had done was cruel. How dare the Doctor hurt her feelings like that, thought John angrily.

John was not the one to lose his temper with anybody, but if anyone harmed Sarah in anyway, he would surely make their life a misery. The Doctor didn’t take notice of Benton’s evil glares, even if he did, he probably look away, or ask why he’s in such a bad mood? Sarah had taken notice of Benton’s looks and thought about warning the Doctor.

Harry was waiting for Benton to arrive back in UNIT, but it was an even bigger surprise when he had bought two familiar people into the labs. He instantly turned his head away from them, knowing how disgusted they were feeling right now; the Doctor must be gutted and livid with him. Harry clenched and sat down on the table, arms crossing over each other.

“Harry,” Sarah said soothingly. “Harry, the Doctor wants to talk to you, in private.” She turned around, tapped Benton on the shoulder. They left the labs, leaving the two men to be stuck in an awkward silence.

The Doctor quietly sat down beside him. Harry felt like shifting away from the Time-Lord, but his body remained frozen on the spot. Harry cocked his head to one side; he knew the Doctor was figuring out what to say to him before he came out with anything daft. Harry was respectable and gave the man some time to come out with the words he needed.

“Harry,” The Doctor started. “You’re an absolute prat, and I’ve been meaning to say that to you for a very long time.” The Doctor finally said.

“I had a feeling you were... old chap.” Harry said sheepishly, looking away from the Doctor as he began to fiddle with his fingers lazily.

“Just listen,” The Doctor said without emotion. “When I’ve found out about your secret, I’ve done nothing but whine and moan about my own world collapsing into nothingness. I started to think that everyone’s a traitor and that humanity didn’t have the right to be served by me.” He licked his lips. “Sarah helped me to see that not everyone is the same and that I was to be prepared for everything.” He had that sad look shimmering in his eyes. “Why didn’t you tell me before, instead of suffering in silence? You could have told somebody.”

“I was too frightened, Doctor.” Harry swallowed, but was at the point when tears would suddenly come flowing out from his eyes. “I didn’t know what to do or say, I was just so scared about rejection – but I was gonna tell you, one way or the other. And you did find out, but not the way I wanted you to.”

“You were suffering silence, Harry.” The Doctor repeated.

“And for a good enough reason, Doctor; I’m frightened of you.” He lifted his legs up on the table and pressed his knees against his chest for comfort. “I’ve seen your temper go off once before, and it’s not a good sight to behold. It made me shiver and grudge with anxiety, it’s that bad.”

“Am I really that terrifying to you?” The Doctor raised his eyebrow, he was hurt.

Harry looked away from the Doctor. “Yeah, you are... well... sort of. I wouldn’t say you were completely frightening.”

The Doctor sulkily folded his arms, he looked at Harry again. “I’m sorry, Harry. Really, I am. I was foolish, selfish and a complete idiot for not understanding human emotion well enough. If it hadn’t been for Sarah Jane, I probably wouldn’t be here right now, talking to you.”

“You’re not the one that’s meant to say sorry, Doctor, I’m the one. I didn’t tell you my secret when I should have.” Harry chocked back his tears. “I don’t think I would be ever forgiven, ever.”

“Now I’m not that bad to you. I have forgiven you, Harry. But I became just too upset to even bear looking at humans again; I just didn’t get a chance to say it.”

Harry nodded. “I should have old you earlier.”

“Even if you did, it probably wouldn’t make any difference on how I felt back there.” The Doctor forced a smirk on his face; his smirk had suddenly melted away once Harry had begun to sob. The Doctor lulled his head forward for a second and then lifting it up. “Oh... come here... you big baby.” The Doctor joked.

The Time Lord suddenly felt a quick shot of guilt pierce through his twin hearts. It left him bleeding uncontrollably from the inside and he wished for it to stop, so he had to do the one thing that would stop the bleeding. The Doctor lazily wrapped one arm over Harry’s bulky shoulders and pulled him against his chest.

“I’m sorry... I’m so, so sorry... I didn’t mean to.” Harry muffled against his jacket, his head started to ache.

The Doctor rubbed and patted his back and soothed his voice. “Shhh... I forgive you...” He murmured.

Sarah had experienced the most human side of the Doctor, which was a very rare thing to see. The Doctor was there to comfort me and give me his forgivness, which I needed the most. It was all thanks to Sarah Jane that we're back together, like the way it should have been from the start. The Doctor had a short chat with the Brig before we moved on, and John seems pretty calm about things now.

As soon as we made it back to the TARDIS, the Doctor had told her that she was to pick where they should go next, since it was her and saved us.

When she had made her choice (which was Spain, by the way) we waited until we've reached our destination. And, of course, the TARDIS landed on a different planet.

Out of all the planets in the universe, why Skaro?
