I wonder, sometimes,
what Death is like...not a hero's death, nor the sort that creeps up
slowly, hardly a surprise…but just...Death. Just slipping away, and
then...what? Does everything go dark, do the senses fail? It is a
great mystery to mankind, I think—what does Death feel like?
Writers describe it, actors portray it, but do they really know? Can
they envision the shadow closing in, the feelings seeping away? Or is
it all a guess, an act? Perhaps Death's ways are a well-kept secret
for good reason—perhaps it is too much for the human mind to take
in, unless it is felt...and then, who can you tell? The dust around
your casket? The worms? Perhaps the angels who take your soul up?
They know Death personified. It would be of no use. All others that
are Above have felt Death, they know. And they keep its secrets among
themselves—perhaps lest mankind have nothing left to ponder over?
