“I don’t understand Elphie

“I don’t understand Elphie.” Glinda informed the green girl as she sat on her bed with a spell book opened before her. “I mean, I’m looking at the words. But they aren’t words I could absorb.” She heard a chuckle and finally allowed her eyes to leave the pages that confused her so to look over her shoulder to find Elphaba giggling.

“What?” The blonde asked, raising a brow in confusion. “What’s so funny?”

“You are my sweet,” Elphaba responded with a grin. “But you don’t mean to be, which makes it even funnier.” Glinda quickly opened her mouth to protest, but she was faster. “Cute more than funny though.” She smiled as she reached out, caressing Glinda’s cheek softly. It would never get old having Glinda around. For such a long time she thought she’d never see her again, but to have her around again was something Elphaba would never test. She would just accept and enjoy it for now.

Glinda couldn’t help but smile, closing her eyes and leaning against her girlfriend’s touch. This was something she always hoped for but never made a move for. Though she used to tell herself that rejection would be too much to bear, she couldn’t believe she never gave it a try so long ago. She lifted her arm, taking Elphaba’s hand in her own. “I missed you…” She opened her eyes and looked up into Elphaba’s brown orbs. “Now tell me, how do you read this?”

Elphaba smirked softly as she sat down beside Glinda. “Way to kill a moment.” She joked before looking down at the book. “Sweet Oz, this is one of my easiest books, and you can’t read it?”

“Elphie, I’m not exactly at your level. You’ve been reading since you were how old?”

“But still… I thought you were studying sorcery.” The Wicked Witch argued, wanting so badly to blurt out what the book said, but if she did, then Glinda wouldn’t be learning anything.

When Elphaba mentioned how she’s been studying sorcery, Glinda felt herself shrink, feeling so small compared to her love at the moment. “I am studying it, but I was taking combat classes for a while, and that involved an instructor. No books or anything. Just me, my instructor and our wands.”

“And when you weren’t doing that?”

“Well then my instructor created a book for me to study spells. It was written quite blunt unlike this mulch.” She looked from the book to her girlfriend before letting out a laugh. “Wow, I feel like we’re in school again. We used to always have conversations like these.”

Elphaba smiled as she remembered those days. The days where yeah, she was hated, but she didn’t have to hide and pretend she was dead. She remembered how she would always attempt to help Glinda with her studies, but never succeeded because it would get so frustrating. “Yeah, it reminds me of it too.” She agreed. “But we’ve gained so much more now. We’re no longer naïve and we’ve come to our senses. We could finally be together, of course in secret… but that doesn’t matter as long as I have you.” She said with a smile. She felt Glinda move in closer. The Wicked Witch wrapped her arms around the Queen of Oz, leaning her head on her shoulder. “And after all this time, we’ve discovered a very special power.”

Glinda leaned her head back against Elphaba’s chest as she smiled softly. “Yes, it’s amazing how we’ve possessed this power all along and we haven’t discovered it until now. It’s really a blessing for us to have come together.” She knew powers or not they would have found each other. They loved each other and there was no obstacle great enough to compete with their love. “For more than one reason.” She added.

“Of course.” Elphaba couldn’t deny it, but she wanted to discuss their powers. “But really, it is funny how we never noticed it. I mean, maybe there were always signs, but perhaps we didn’t notice because it wasn’t like we knew we could do this. Maybe the signs were always there.”

“They might have been.” Glinda agreed as she stayed close to Elphaba, but she stared down at the book. She gave up on trying to crack the code though. “Maybe we were able to control each other’s powers in a sense. I mean, we both had moments where our powers would be so out of our reach that we couldn’t control them, but everything ended up being perfectly fine seconds later. Maybe the other’s presence was able to keep it under control.”

“That’s possible.” Elphaba said as she considered it. “I never thought it was possible for that to happen. But hey, we just learned that we could reverse magic together. It’s about time I open my mind.” She said as she lay down on her back, pulling Glinda with her. “And I when I get angry, bad things happen. Or at least they used to. After I met you, those moments wouldn’t last so long and the damage would not be as great. Like the time with the baby cub; all I did was stop time. I used to destroy and hurt and wonder how I did it.”

The blonde laid on her side, running her fingers through Elphaba’s silky black hair that she’s envied for years. “I think we’re each other’s balance.” She finally spoke up. “Mentally, you’re my balance. You keep me sane. And when it comes to powers, they seem to be much more controlled around you. They’re balanced around you. You’re my balance.”

Elphaba smiled as she looked over at Glinda, placing a quick kiss on her lips. “You’re my balance.”
