Akela ran through the house screaming at the top of her lungs, with Lani not too far behind, “Akela, get back here!” she yelled as she lunged at her little sister, only to land flat on her face.
Akela laughed as she continued running through the house. She found her secret hiding spot in her parent’s old bedroom. There was a secret door on the inside of the closet, just big enough for her to fit in. Akela climbed in and remained silent when she heard Lani’s footsteps on the other side of the door.
Lani knew exactly where her little sister was. Very quietly, she set up a trap. Once she was done, Lani walked over to the bedroom door and slammed it shut. She quietly ran over to her hiding spot and waited for Akela to come out.
Five minutes later, the closet door squeaked open and Akela cautiously came out. Lani waited until her hack was turned before she sprang into action.
Lani jumped from her spot and covered Akela in a pillow case. Akela growled and struggled as Lani dragged her into the kitchen. Once she got out of the bag, Akela hissed in her sister’s face and tried to walk away.
Lani grabbed Akela’s upper arm, “Akela, why do you keep getting into fights? Do you not realize how serious this is? Do you want to be taken away that badly?” Akela stopped struggling for a moment. Her eyes started to water.
“Answer me, Akela! Do you really want to be taken away?” Lani exclaimed, her grip getting a little tighter on her sister.
“No!” Akela started to struggle again.
“No, you don’t understand?” Lani asked.
“No!”
“No, what?!” Lani was getting frustrated with Akela’s game.
“No!” with that, Akela gave up and dropped to the ground with a thud, mumbling. Lani gave a frustrated sigh, “This is ridicules!” she said, pinching the bridge of her nose.
Akela looked up, “So why don’t you sell me and but a monkey instead?” Lani was mad now, “At least the monkey would behave better than you!” she shouted as Akela started climbing the stairs to her room.
“Go ahead, then you’ll be happy, cause it’ll be smarter than me!” she said as Lani ran to the foot of the stair case, “AND QUIETER!”
“And you’ll like it, CAUSE IT’LL BE UGLY LIKE YOU!” Akela yelled as she slammed the door to her room. “GO TO YOUR ROOM!!” Lani yelled even louder. The door swung open, “I’M ALREDY IN MY ROOM, DUMMBY!” Akela yelled and slammed the door again.
Lani stomped over to the couch and screamed as loud as she could into a pillow. Akela did the exact same thing and plopped onto the bed.
Later that night, Akela sat on the window sill in her room, holding her walrus plushy. A tap on her door brought the girl out of her thought. Lani opened the door slightly and poked her head in, “Hey, I brought you some left over Chinese, in case you were hungry.” She said softly putting a small try of food down on Akela’s desk.
Akela looked away from her sister, “We’re a broken family, huh?” Lani walked over to the window, “No. maybe a little. Ok, so maybe a lot.” She said as she sat down on the floor. “I’m sorry I-”
Akela interrupted her, “We’re sisters, we’re supposed to argue, that’s what we do.” Lani couldn’t help but smile. “Yeah, well from now on-”
Akela looked up and interrupted her again, “You’re better at being a sister, than trying to be mom.” She said. Akela’s eyes started to water, “and you like me as a sister than a monkey right?” she said as she buried her face in her plushy.
Lani didn’t know what to say. She was so mad that she didn’t know what she was saying. Getting up from the floor, Lani picked up her little sister and carried her over to her bed, “Of course I do. I don’t like monkeys in the first place.” She said as Akela hugged her.
Akela sniffled and wiped her eyes, “Kimi called me a freak again.” She said looking down at the pattern on her blanket. Lani looked at her, “Akela, names can’t hurt you. There are times where you may feel hurt, believe me, I know what it’s like. The only thing you can do is not listen. They don’t know you.” She said trying to comfort her little sister.
000 Orbiting Earth 000
The Elder was furious. How could the creature escape? It just wasn’t possible. The ship had been searched three times and they still couldn’t find it.
“It’s escaped to that ooman planet. Find it, or I’ll have your heads for trophies!” the Elder shouted as three youngbloods trembled at the sound of his voice. The three bowed their heads and prepared to hunt the creature on Earth.
Once they were ready, they walked into a much smaller ship. They took off and entered Earth’s atmosphere. But something happened. The ship shook and landed on a small piece of land in the middle of the ocean. The crash caused an explosion, but all three warriors walked away from the crash sight with only a few cuts.
000 Meanwhile 000
Akela woke up to the sound of an explosion outside. Getting up out of her large bed, she walked over to the window and opened it. Looking up, Akela saw something shoot across the night sky.
“It’s a wishing star!” she exclaimed, even though she was the only one in the room. Making sure that her sister wouldn’t come in, Akela put her hands together and made a wish.
“Please, I wish I had a real friend. Someone who’ll like me for who I am and not call me a freak. Maybe you could send me the friendliest angel you have.” Akela preyed. Once she was done with her wish, Akela went back to bed and hoped that her wish would come true.
