Horse with No Name

Come on, Sara, this one's easy. You can do this. You just got out from under a car! Let Nicky top that! Cripes, what a trip. It was close, no doubt about it, but you beat her. You're the first victim to escape. You beat her. Everything's good. Just got to get to safety now. Rain's getting worse, Sar. Doesn't look good. That car filled up pretty quick, right? Focus in. Shit, my arm hurts. No time for babystuff like that. Get moving, Sara. What if Natalie comes back? Get moving.

You see I've been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain…

Dammit…I can't remember any more. That's just the chorus. How does the verse start?

What was that? Rattler. They're not supposed to be out yet. Sun's not high enough. Yeah, they're cold-blooded right? Grissom would know. He knows lots of stuff like that. Facts crammed into his brain like sardines. Frigging walking encyclopedia. Where the hell is he? Where the hell am I?

Come on Sara. You haven't gone far enough yet. You've got to make the crest of the hill before the sun gets high. It'll be too hard after that. You've got to get high enough to see where the hell you are.

On the first part of the journey
I was looking at all the life
There were plants and birds and rocks and things…

Already getting thirsty. Crap. Sun's only been up an hour. Come on, Sidle. This is bullshit. You're stronger than this. You need to start thinking, dammit. Make a plan. Make a plan. Okay. Get to the top of the hill. Find out where everything is…no, wait. Wait. Stop and make a sling. Let's think about this, okay. Make a sling. Do some pain management here. Make this a little easier on yourself. That's it. Okay, there's something positive. That shirt tore easily enough…except for this last seam. What the hell? Let go you…you…there. There. See that's good. That'll help. There's some left over. Perfect. Perfect. That'll help. Keep positive, Sara. Every inch is a good inch. Now, let's get back at it. Just a few more steps, right? Just a few more. You always thought you'd be pretty hot on that damn wilderness show. Show 'em what you can do. Don't let them vote you off the island. How does the first verse start?

You're dropping the ball, here, Sidle. A good player always wants the ball. A good player always wants to carry the ball over the line, right? Grissom would agree, right? All that rain last night! No way to catch it…no way to drink enough of it…couldn't wait to be dry, right? Ain't that a kick in the head?

The heat was hot and the ground was dry
But the air was full of sound…

Screw it. You're not thirsty. You're fine. One more step, Sara. Come on. Mind over matter. A few more steps. Easy, right? It's not Mount Everest. It's not…damn…hot. So hot. Small rest. Five minutes. There's no shade. Got to stay out so they can see me. Someone's looking for me. They've got to have figured out something's wrong by now, right?

I've been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain…

It's the top! The top. You did it girl. Homestretch from here…oh…oh…ohmygoddddddd.

What am I going to do?

What am I going to do?

Show me a road! Come on! Show me something. Anything. If I could just see something, I could make it! I know I could. Please! Search dammit! Look around. There's got to be something. What the hell? Is this some kind of frigging joke. I get out of a killer's trap twice only to die of thirst in the desert? This is freaking pathetic. What is this, a joke? Some sick, perverted joke? This is so not funny. Not funny at all.

Oh god. Oh god. Oh god.

This isn't fair. Why? Why me? Haven't you done enough to me? Haven't I survived enough?

sob

Stop it.

sob

Just stop it! That's not going to help and you know it. Come on Sara. None of this is new. When have you ever been able to count on anyone else? When have you ever had any kind of back up…especially when your life depended on it? You've gotten through this stuff before. Nothing's different this time out. What did you think? Grissom would come charging up like some knight on a white horse and take you home? Fairytales, Sara. You stopped believing in them before you were toilet trained. Buckle down and do it. Enough of this bullshit. Come on. Make a step and move.

Okay. Okay. I can move it. Not broken…sprained…but not broken. Not the end of the world. Got to keep going. Remember, no white knights, Sara. Remember. It's all you girl. It's all you.

That song is in-inaccurate. I've only been out here, what? Half a day? My skin's red now. I won't have any skin left if I can't make shade.

I was looking at a river bed
And the story it told of a river that flowed…
River…
River…
I wish I could see a river…keep going. Rain dammit! Where the hell are the flashfloods now? Keep going, Sara.

You see I've been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain

Tired…I want to stop. I need to rest…just for a moment. That would be a good thing to do, wouldn't it? Lay down till the heat goes…move at night in the cool air? Wouldn't that make sense…

NO! NO! NO! NO!

You can't lie down here. You'll die! Got to keep moving. Natalie didn't want you moving. She wanted you to stay still because she knew you'd die if you stayed still. You can't stay still, Sara. You've got to keep moving no matter what. Don't let her win, Sara. Every step beats her. Come on. Come on…Get up. Get up!

You see I've been through the desert… In the desert you can remember...

You see I've been through the desert…
In the desert you can remember…

Bush…next bush…leafy thing. One two three. Three steps to the next leafy thing…

After nine days I let the horse run free
'Cause the desert had turned to sea
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
there was sand and hills and rings...

No plants…no water…

After nine days I let the horse run free…nine days! Nine days…I'm only on day one…I need to sit…I can't…I can't…sing and walk at the same time. I can't…think and sing at the same time….I can't sing…I need to…I need…to…sleep…Keep going…don't stop…don't stop…three times…three times four is twelve…three times four is twelve…keep times…four times…ughhhhh….get up…can't rest…don't sleep…don't sleep…four times five is twenty…don't sleep…don't sleep

La la la la di da da….

"Sara-aa-a-! Sara, it's Nick, I'm here! Can you hear me? I can't get a pulse!"

"We found Sara! North on the 159 at Turtlehead Peak. We need a medivac out here right now!"

"Don't worry, we're gonna get you out of here, okay? They're on their way now."

La la la la di da da…. La la la la di da da…

"You're going to be okay, Sara."

"Over here!"

"What'd'you got?"

"Female, thirty-five, unconscious…"

"She's been…about fifteen hours. She's not answering me at all."

La la la la di da da…. La la la la di da da….

"What's her name?"

I've been through the desert on a horse with no name…

"Sara."

"Sara. Sara, can you hear me...?"

I've been through the desert on a horse with no name…

"How is she?"

"She's not responding…respriation's shallow."

In the desert you can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain…no pain...no pain...

"Oxygen's on..."

"Give me a large for IV for right now. Watch the arm. IV's in? Okay, we gotta move! Still no radial pulse. Let's go, get'em loaded up…watch the arm."

"On my count…1…2…3…"

La la la la di da da…. La la la la di da da….
La la la la di da da…. La la la la di da da….

"Let's go."

"Keep that IV close."

"Where are you taking her?"

"Desert Palm."

"Move over, I'm going with her."

La la la la di da da…. La la la la di da da….Grissom? Grissom? Was that Grissom's voice?

"Desert Palm, Eastbound, six minutes, ETA."

Open you eyes and see, Sara. Open them, dammit! Open your eyes.

I can't…I can't…I need to sleep…

NO! Open them…Open them. He came for you. He came. Open them and see for yourself. It's not brain surgery…just lift your lids…come on…

"Thirty-five year old female, serious dehydration, obvious crack in left radial bone….unconscious and unresponsive…BP 140 over 100…we need…"

I see him. I see his vest. I see Grissom. He came. He came for me.

You see I've been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain…
