Chapter 12

Hachi stared in shock at Takumi, not sure how to respond.

‘Is this one of his tricks? Is he only saying this so I’ll take him back?’

She stared into Takumi’s eyes to see if he was lying to her but all she could see was the honesty in his eyes.

‘What’s going on? I’ve never seen his eyes look this unguarded before.’

Takumi stared at Hachi, appearing calm on the outside but inside a storm was raging.

‘Will she believe my confession? Will she take me back?’

He felt his heart sink when her eyes hardened.

“I’m not going to fall for your lies anymore.” She coldly informed him.

“I’m not lying.” Takumi insisted as he reached for her.

She stepped aside, successfully dodging him.

“Please leave.” She whispered.

With a pained look in his eyes, Takumi nodded before leaving.

Hachi couldn’t help but feel like she had made a mistake and had to force herself not to call out his name. She stood there until she heard the elevator door shut behind him.

‘Why does it feel like the door shutting is the end of Takumi and me? This is what I wanted so why do I feel such despair and regret?’

Takumi resisted the urge to slam his hand against one of the elevator walls and instead closed his eyes and leaned back against the back wall.

‘Shit, what am I supposed to do? I don’t want to give up but it seems like I may very well have to. I can’t force her to take me back after all. Although, I feel like I’ve made some progress so maybe it would be best to wait for her to come to me?’

A smile slid across his face at that thought and when the elevator reached the first floor he slipped on his sun glasses as he walked out. He nodded towards the security guard before walking out of the building.

Hachi sat on her bed, staring at the wall lost in thought as a cigarette dangled between her fingers.

‘Even though logically I know that I’ve made the right choice, my heart can’t help but disagree. My head is telling me that taking Takumi back is stupid because he’ll only cheat on me again but my heart is telling me to go for it. I’m so confused; I don’t know what to do. I’m not sure if I just think he’s going to cheat on me because I’m afraid that he will or if that’s my gut feeling talking.’

Remembering that she had a cigarette in her hand and not wanting to burn anything she quickly flicked the ashes into her ash tray before bringing it up to her lips. She inhaled the smoke and leaned back against the wall as she exhaled.

‘It’s been awhile since I’ve visited Jun-chan and Kyon Kyon, I think I’ll go see what they’re up too.’

Junko looked up from the magazine she was reading when she heard the door bell.

‘I wonder who that could be.’

She set the magazine on the table before walking to the door. She looked through the peephole and a smile crossed her face when she saw who it was.

“Hey Nana, what brings you here?” She asked after opening the door.

“Nothing, I just thought I’d drop by for a visit.”

“Come on in.” Junko invited as she stepped back.

“Thanks.”

“Kyosuke, Nana has come to visit.” Junko called as she walked to the kitchen.

“That’s nice to hear.” He said as he put his paint brush down.

He smiled at Hachi as she walked into the kitchen.

“It’s good to see you again.” Kyosuke said.

“You too.” Hachi said with a smile.

She sat down at the table and Junko set down a drink in front of her.

“How’d you know that I’d want a Cherry Coke?” She asked.

“Just a lucky guess.” Junko answered with a wink.

Hachi smiled as she opened the can.

“How’s work going?” Kyosuke asked.

“It’s going really well.”

“What’s with the sad look? It’s not like you.”

“Takumi came by my place today.”

“What for?” Junko asked as she sat down.

“To try to get me back.”

“Still?”

“Yeah….he told me he loved me.”

Junko and Kyosuke stared at her in shock.

“What’d you say?” Kyosuke finally asked.

“I told him that I wasn’t going to fall for his lies anymore and asked him to please leave.”

“Do you think he was lying?” Junko asked.

“….I don’t know. His eyes looked so sincere; I’ve never seen them look that unguarded before. I felt like I was making a mistake by asking him to leave.”

“Do you want to get back together with him?”

Silence filled the room for several seconds before Hachi finally answered.

“I think so but I’m not sure. A big part of me really wants to take him back but I’m also scared that he’s going to cheat on me again. I couldn’t take it if I found out he cheated on me again.”

Silence filled the room and for once Junko and Kyosuke had no idea what advice to give Hachi.

“Takumi, I’ve finished the lyrics.” Reira said after knocking on the doorway.

Takumi looked up as Reira entered through the open door. He held out his hand and she handed him the paper. Silence continued to fill the room as he read the lyrics.

“The lyrics are nice, good job.” The bassist said as he handed back the paper.

“Thank you.” The vocalist said with a big smile.

He nodded before going back to his paperwork. The smile fell off of her face and she stared at him for a few seconds before leaving the room.

Reira aimlessly wandered down the hallway. She didn’t care where she went, as long as it was away from Takumi.

‘I know the band is important to him but I wish he wouldn’t focus so much on work.’

She stopped in front of a vending machine and looked at the drinks.

‘None of these look appealing.’

After looking at the beverages for a couple of more seconds she continued her journey down the hallway.

‘I’m so bored, maybe I should go see what Ren is doing?’

Glad that she had a destination in mind, she left the building to head over towards Ren’s condo.

‘I should call first, to make sure he’s not busy. He and Nana may already be doing something and I don’t want to just barge in on them.’

She dug through her purse for her cell phone as she walked down the hallway and didn’t notice the person turning the corner she was about to turn on.

“Oh!” She exclaimed in surprise as she stumbled backwards.

“Are you ok?” The person who caught her asked.
