"Am I still your teacher?" Without pausing for an answer he continued, "Then I want you to learn this, our last, lesson. Even if you forget everything else I want you to always remember that you are a person of value, and you have a friend who loved you enough to give you his most valued possession."
"I will, Anton. I'll remember."
I remembered. After all, how could I forget? Then his lips had ever so gently brushed mine, and then he was gone. With a deep breath I lifted my bags and stepped out of the main doors for the last time. At last I was leaving the Arkansas Reformatory for Girls. My home for the past two and a half years.
Finally I could live my life happily, like Anton would have wanted. Finally I was free. I glanced down at my hand at the gold ring on my fingers. I'd never forget.
