Disclaimer: I do not own the series Naruto or its characters which all belong to Masahi Kishimoto.
This is just a quick one-shot i just had to do after reading the latest chapters. This is what i imagined happened after Jiraiya left them. Although i will probably be soon proved wrong with later chapters, this is what i think at the moment.
“N-no, Nagato, t-this isn’t right,” she stuttered and scrunched back in case he would hurt her. As she had predicted his face lit up in fury and he retreated his hand from her, his long bronze hair swaying forward as he yelled at her, “Why? They took it all from us! They will feel the same pain!” he tilted his head down his hair covering his eyes, “You can’t leave me too Konan, don’t leave me alone.”
Why wouldn’t he stop, she thought paralyzed with fear, what was wrong with him? He looked back at her, this time with maniac like grin, “They will all feel our pain, the pain we felt when they took Yahiko away from us.”
The crazed boy held out his hand again and she retreated in fear once again. His face contorted into a hurt expression; “Are you afraid of me?” he spoke softly.
Konan looked him in the eyes, he was under control now, but he had a pained look in his ringed eyes, “Nagato-”
He flared up in rage again and interrupted her by grabbing her shoulders, forcing her to look at him. “I told you, I’m not Nagato! It’s Pein now, the name all shall respect and fear one day!”
The blue haired girl tried to pull away but could only struggle in his tight grip on her. He smirked bitterly at her actions, “You are afraid of me,” he looked away but still held onto her, “Jiraiya-sensei was wrong I am a monster, so horrible that even you hate me now.”
Gathering a bit of courage, she gently lifted his hands of her. Trickles of salty liquid slid down her face along with the clean trickles of water from Nagato’s rain. He looked back at her confused as she embraced him.
“That’s not true Nagato, please come back to me,” she cried into his chest. He looked at her shocked and not knowing how to respond. They sat there awkwardly in the rain surrounded by corpses and blood. Eventually Nagato look up to the sky and placed a hand on Konan’s head.
“Please,” she looked up into his face, “please don’t leave me, do this with me, I can’t have you leave me too,” he almost pleaded to her. Weakly she stared at him not sure what to say. His eyes begged her to be with him.
“Promise that you’ll never leave me, I need you Konan.”
She finally knew her answer to that statement, “Yes, Pein, I promise to never leave your side.” She answered shakily. He finally smiled down at her, the old Nagato she knew was showing but she knew he’d never be the same. Even though, she could never leave him.
“We will revolutionize this world, a new dawn is rising. They will all feel our pain.”
He pulled her up as she still looked at him wide eyed. She didn’t know what he was going to do yet, but she’d follow him, she’d never leave him. She’d let him lead and she’d be right behind.
She sat with him calm as ever as he waited for her to answer. She would answer, she always would, anything he said she’d do.
The blue haired woman was hesitant but she looked over to him softly. That made his curiosity increase and he raised a pierced eyebrow.
“I’ve kept my promise so far,” she stated quietly. She had changed, she was now quieter and calm, but she was still kind and soft to him in her own ways. Konan had changed and all for him.
Pein smiled, half smirked, “Yes, you have. Only a lifetime to go, you don’t mind?”
She leaned closer to him but he didn’t mind. “No, I chose this; I want to be by your side. You won’t ever be alone,” she answered him a little more loudly that time.
The woman looked into his ringed eyes, remembering how she was once frightened by them. She now knew he wouldn’t hurt her, she had experienced his pain along side him already. Now he tried to preserve her from experiencing anymore pain with those eyes along with causing the hurt of others with the very same eyes.
She had tried to make his life less painful, to take it away, but with his burden she knew it was impossible.
“The new dawn is finally rising,” Pein said looking out into the rainy morning. His companion still looked at him pondering.
Noticing this he voiced his question he had wondered from the beginning, “Konan, why did you stay?”
Momentarily she paused, “Because, I wanted to lessen your pain,” she embraced him unexpectedly. This time he warily returned it and gazed at her softly. She was the only person he would do this for.
Konan whispered into him, “Because, Nagato, I know that loneliness is the most painful thing of all.”
