" Dying Rain"

a new kind of Twilight

by: Feathers Kiss

a story of

Bella and Edward in a different time and place all together.

DISCLAIMER: I Do not own nor did I create any of the characters or places related to the "Twilight Series". That all belongs to the wonderful mind of author Stephenie Meyer. This story is one of my own creation as far as story line goes. The base characters are not mine nor is the few places I may or may not use in this fan-fic. That are directly from the' Twilight series'.

(side note: this story is in the process of being edited at the moment so somethings may be tweeked just a little to what I first wrote so it could make better sense or what not, pretty much it is just the first few chapter that need fixing then it will be all good and done!) EDITED BY GOLDSPARKLER!

The year was 1730. I was a child then born into a world full of peasants and thieves. I was an only child and was alone in this world. My father went off to war and never came back. My mother died of what they called then of a broken heart. I was thrown into an orphanage with other children like me who had lost their parents at such a young age. I hated it there more then anything. I took my freedom on a moonless night stowing away on the back of the carriage of one of the caretakers. When I was far enough away, I jumped to the muddy ground rolling off to the forest's eerie edge. I laid there crying for I don't know how long cradling myself.

I was beaten and bruised not only from my recent fall, but from the man. The man who happened to choose me that night out of all the other girls to take out his frustrations on, stealing my innocence along with it. I was a frail girl of ten, not yet ripe with my womanhood. My hair a dark chestnut brown that flowed down in waves stopping at my thin waist. My eyes of dark brown showed brightly out from my pale heart shaped completion. I shivered in the brisk winter's air as I dragged myself to my feet swaying slightly from the cut flowing blood from my forehead. I ripped at the fabric of my cloak and wrapped it around my head putting pressure on my wound. My hands stung with scrapes and my cheeks burned has the cold snow whipped across my face. All was silent along this dark road for all the noise was pushed away by the wild winds. I walked ably along not knowing what was in front of me. I didn't even know if I was walking straight ahead or just walking in aimless circles. I could not make out if there was road beneath my feet or not as the darkness pressed against my tear stained eyes. I walked until my legs could no longer bear the weight of my tired body. I found myself the best shelter I could from the cold in a hollow of an old tree. I wrapped my cloak securely around me and let my eyes drift shut.

White hot light bathed my face waking me from my nightmares. I was alive. I had lived through the night. I sat there for a while in my hideaway taking in my surroundings. The freshly fallen snow glittered under the rays of light filtering in through the canopy of the dying leaves. It was the first big snowfall of the season. I watched as the forest around me came to life, the birds sang from the tree tops and the animals scurried the earth looking for food. My stomach ached with its own hunger. I reached into my cloak and untied the small sack I had taken with me. Inside were things that I held dear in this world, a photo of my family and a locket I wasn't allowed to wear at the orphanage. It was my mother's, given to her by my father before he left. She never had the heart to put pictures in it. She had said that putting pictures in it would mean that he was really gone and she didn't want to believe that. When the weeks turned into a year and there had been no word, my mother gave up all hope of his survival taking to her bed where she let herself wither away. No doctor could break her from her feverish hysteria that had consumed her mind which brought her to her grave.

I removed the stale bread and mead I had stolen from the kitchens the night before. I sparingly broke off a small section and began to quench my hunger. I froze bringing a piece of bread to my mouth when I heard the sound of a snapping branch that was too loud to be made by a small animal. The sound echoed off the trees from some distance away from where I took my sanctuary from the cold. I heard what sounded like music float through the small breeze kissing my ears with it's beauty it was then that I realized that the sound was a laugh.

I slowly peeked my head out just far enough to look around my surroundings more clearly. I didn't see anything unusual in the forest before my eyes- nor did I hear any signs of what or whoever made the disturbance. I let out a warm breath of air and watched it dance into the sky like a cloud of smoke. I finished my morsel and rose stiffly from my makeshift bed. I stretched my arms out above my head yawning in a gasp of cold icy air that hurt my lungs. I shuddered against its effects and began walking towards the direction from which the noise had come from. Hoping to find some sort of end to these maze-like woods. I knew at least that I was heading east towards the sun. I walked along humming songs to myself as I went. The snow crunched under my feet with every step leaving my small step inlaid behind me. I was just thinking whether or not I had wandered this far off from the road's path when I saw the thinning of trees up ahead.

I broke out into a run tripping in my haste making me fall to my knees just as I hit the clearing's edge. It was not what I thought it to be at first sight. I had come upon a small meadow instead. It was breathtaking in its heavenly beauty. The sight of it even in snow could not hide the glories of what beauties lay sleeping beneath its frosted blanket. I lifted myself off the hard earth wiping the damp snow from my clothes. My body was numb from the lacking warmth. My teeth chattered as I forced myself onward across the meadow making my way to the other side to the darkening tree trunks. I turned one last time taking in the small gift of nature searing its image into my memory before making my way back under the canopy of leaves.

It wasn't long after when my feet finally came to rest on the dirt road in which they had been searching for. I didn't know where I was going and I didn't care just as long as I got away from all the agonizing pain that was left buried behind me.
