At the moment, Gatomon hated her life. Kari was spending all of her time with him now. TK. And everyone had gone off today… today of all days! Didn’t they remember? She did. How could she forget?
“GRIZZLY WING!”
Gatomon had reminded Kari, who’d almost totally forgotten in her rush to meet TK at the park.
“Kari, are you going with me to the TV Station today?” Gatomon asked, trying to keep the anger out of her voice. She swished her tail irritably and waited for an answer.
Kari didn’t answer right away. Finally she paused and looked at her. “Why would we-oh crap! I can’t believe I forgot! I’ll meet you here at noon, ok? We’ll go together.”
And now it was twelve thirty in the afternoon. No Kari. But that wasn’t why she hated her life. Something was gone, something was missing. It wasn’t the continuous battles, it was something else. Someone else. Wizardmon.
Screw it. Gatomon thought angrily. I’ll go without her. Apparently I’m the only one who cares about what happened today! She leapt off of Kari’s bunk and left the apartment. She trotted down the sidewalk, wearing a get-the-hell-out-of-my-way-or-else-I’ll-murder-you-in-your-sleep-with-a-spork kind of expression. But as soon as she saw the TV Station, her mood changed. She went from angry to sad in a heartbeat. Her pace slowed and she stood in front of the doors of the TV Station.
Thunder boomed overhead and Gatomon looked up at the dark rain clouds. Coincidence? Maybe. Or perhaps her old friend was expecting her. A flash of blue lightning struck the ground feet behind her. Yep, Wizardmon. And he was telling her to get her ass in there.
Gatomon smiled. “I’m coming I’m coming. Since when have you been so impatient?” She hurried in and walked through the halls, up the stairs, and into the circular office room. “Thanks for nearly hitting me with that bolt of lightning…”
There was a chuckle from nowhere. A shadow appeared on the wall, then drifted across the floor to her. It rose out of the floor, revealing her transparent friend.
“You were taking forever.” he said. “Excuse me for wanting to talk to my best friend again.”
Gatomon smiled. “What if that had hit me though?”
“Nah, I wouldn’t do that to you.” Wizardmon replied. “Where’s Kari? Normally at least you two are here.”
Gatomon frowned. “No idea. She said we’d come together at noon, but she never showed.” Gatomon sighed. “I miss… I miss the days when you were around. They were so fun… part of the time. Sometimes they sucked. But still… I miss you.” Her ears drooped.
Wizardmon sighed. “I miss you too.”
Gatomon felt tears come to her eyes. “Goodbye, Wizardmon.” Her voice cracked and she turned away. She ran out, tears streaming down her face and feeling like someone had chopped out a piece of her stomach.

When Kari came home, Gatomon was still crying into her pillow. When she heard the door open Gatomon just dared Kari to come in and ask what was wrong. Kari walked in then gasped.
“Gatomon I’m so sorry I forgot! I didn’t know it would upset you this much!” Kari cried. She climbed the ladder.
“I couldn’t have cared less. I’m crying because I miss Wizardmon. I went to see him without you.” Gatomon said, her words muffled by the pillow. Kari patted her on the back.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t there.” Kari said with a sigh. “I forgot. Did he ask about us?”
Gatomon wanted nothing more in the world than to make Kari feel bad. “Yes. He said he wanted to see you.”
Kari sighed again. “I’m sorry.”
Good. She should be.
Kari left afterwards and Gatomon stared up at the ceiling. The room was steadily getting darker and after a while rain began pounding on the building. For a moment, she’d been happy. Happy for the first time in weeks. No, months. Maybe even years. Her place had been filled. Now it was emptier than ever. She rolled over on her side. “Wizardmon…” She shut her eyes and fell asleep.

Gatomon awoke in the middle of the night. It was sprinkling now and Kari, Tai, and Agumon were asleep. She thought about Wizardmon again.
I miss him so much. I just wish…
He was alive again? Impossible.
That empty place inside of her felt like a cold stone in her stomach. She rolled on to her side and sighed. Wizardmon… he’d always been there for her. Always. When she was hurt or sick, he nursed her. When she was sad, he always cheered her up. When she was angry, he managed to calm her down before she killed someone. Always at her side. Wizardmon.
I loved him. Gatomon thought. I still do. I’m still in love with him… and he had to go and be his usual caring and brave self and get in the way of that stupid attack!
Gatomon thought about one time when she was extremely sick and they were on a mission together. He’d given her his cloak and stayed next to her to make sure she stayed warm. She had actually ended up setting her head in his lap. She would kill for that moment back. She would kill just to have him back.
Kill yourself then. a little voice said. It’s the only way to get him back.
What about Kari?
She has Romeo-er, TK-now.
What if a dark digimon comes along?
There are a thousand digidestined, one won’t matter.
The voice had a point. If she killed herself… she’d be with Wizardmon again… she would have him back. Gatomon slipped off the bed, landed on the floor, and crept into the kitchen. She pulled out one of the knives, the moonlight catching on it. Her paws shook. But Wizardmon’s smiling face drove her on.
Gatomon quickly wrote a note to Kari, telling her not to mourn. Then the looked at the knife again. She pointed it towards her heart.
“One…”
She gripped it tightly.
“Two…”
Her paws were shaking, she’d miss her heart and only injure herself…
“T-Three!”
Blood fell down on to the floor, and Gatomon dropped with a thud.

Gatomon was in a smooth tunnel with perfectly rounded sides. At the end was a shining light. Someone was leaning on the wall. She ran into their arms.
“Gatomon…” Wizardmon whispered. “I never meant for you to…”
Gatomon shushed him, pulled down his cloak, and kissed him. She smiled at him. "What’s done is done. I’m with you now.”
Wizardmon smiled and led her through into the light, holding her paw.
