Author's Note : I came up with this idea after I beat the Toros cave boss . I talked to Mei and she said her village was destroyed . This is told from Mei's point of view . Any ways please read and review and no flames please.

I was an orphan girl at about the age of seven . My mother had died of an illness when I was only four and when she died my father disappeared . Nobody knows for sure what happened to him , but many believe that he killed himself . So now all I have to take care of me is my older brother , Kotaro . I don't remember my parents well but , Kotaro always told me stories about them and I still have our family picture which I carry with me all the time .

The village I lived in was quite small . Every one in the village practiced sword fighting . I only began training for about a week . My brother said that I was a natural . I had great confidence in my abilities .

When I fell asleep one night , I had a dream . It was the same dream that I had every night over the past . It was about the village being destroyed by demons and every night the dream became more and more clear .

"Mei ? Mei wake up !" I heard my brother call for me in despair . "Brother?" I said sleepily . I widened my eyes for now I heard screams of terror .

"Kotaro wha-whats going on?!" My brother grabbed my wrist and pulled me out of my bed . "There's no time to explain come with me , quickly!" He took me out side . He took me to the village gate . As we were running I saw the village on fire . It was just like...my dream .

When we finally got to the gate Kotaro handed me his sword . "Mei listen to me , the village is under attack , I need you run , get as far away from the village as possible ." "But what about you ?" "Don't worry ." he said with a smile . "I'll be right behind you..."

I knew he was lying to me . He didn't care what happened to him . He only cared about my life .

I ran out of the village with tears rolling down my cheeks . I ran , I ran for my life . I heard greater demons following me .

I came to a dead end . I turned around . There was ten greater demons . Even though I was very skilled in sword fighting , I knew I couldn't take on that many greater demons .

My body began to shake in fear . I didn't know what to do . As they got closer I remembered what Kotaro told me .

Mei remember , dying in battle is an honor , but if you just stand there then you have no right to be called a swords man and you're not a considered one of our village .

His voice echoed in my head . If I was going to die there I was going to die with honor . I took out Kotaro's sword . "I'm not afraid of you , I'm not going to run , and I swear , I will kill you , I'LL KILL YOU ALL!!!"

I leaped into the air , ready to strike . "Die you damned demons !" I came down sword first . My sword cut one of the demons in half . The body of the demon disappeared and a small ball of light went up to the sky .

I didn't that there was one behind me . It was about to hit my back with its claws . I quickly turned around and stabbed it in its stomach . Its body fell to the ground .

I felt a searing pain in my arm . It must got me before I killed it . I ran toward the others . I slashed two of the demons . "Four down..."

My arm ached . I only got rid of four and I was already tired . I fell to my knees . "I can't...go on ...Kotaro...I'm sorry..."

Right before I blacked out the demons left. They might thought I was dead . But I was going to die . "Kotaro..."

Every thing's dark...

Am I dead ?

No , I hear voices...

"Hey I think she's waking up !" I opened my eyes , every thing was blurry . Then things began to clear up .

"Where am I ?" The room didn't look familiar . Standing by the bed was a man with long hair and a young woman with a pony tail .

"You're in the hospital , Lady Ann found you in the forest ." He said . I began to sit up . I felt a pain in my left arm which was now all bandaged up.

"What happened to you ." The woman said in a soft tone . "My village was attacked by demons..." I paused for a minute . "The villagers are dead by now including my brother..."

The two looked a me with concerned faces . "Well then ," Lady Ann's mouth formed a smile . "You may stay with me at the inn , I won't charge you any thing."

I stared at her for a second . "T-Thank you..." I layed back down in the bed and rested .

Brother ,

I promise to continue training ,

I have to now

because

I want to protect this village .

That is my mission .
