I dunno if it will make any sense, ut hey. I actually got this idea from a dream i had. Strange hey? My ream wasn't actually this part, but a part alot later in the story. It'll all make sense soon! Okay, i'll stop rambling now. Please reveiw with all your thoughts, good or bad!
Gabriella Montez searched the dirty kitchen for the a fairly clean baby bottle in which to feed her one and a half year old baby sister. She pushed aside the masses of dirty plates and cutlery and finally found what she desired, and she turned on the worn out radio.
She walks to school with a lunch she packed
Nobody knows what she's holding back
Music. Music was her only solace in which she could escape her tragic world. She recognised the song instantly, and began to sing along.
Wearing the same dress she wore yesterday,
She hides the bruises with the linen and lace
The milk in the bottle finally heated up, and she handed the plastic bottle to Carrie, her sister. Carrie clapped her hands happily. So innocent and young, she has no idea what goes on around her, Gabriella thought. She watched the girl for a while, smiling at how beautiful she was. That smile vanished however. When she heard the door slam.
The teacher wonders but she doesn't ask,
It's hard to see the pain behind the mask
She gulped, but did not let her fear and anger overwhelm her. The hatred towards her mother was enough to tip her over the edge. Many people love their mothers dearly. For Gabriella, it was a whole different feeling. She felt not one tiny bit of love or affection to her beast of a mother. The only feeling the coursed through her veins was hate. Pure hate.
Bearing the burden of a secret storm,
Sometimes she wishes she was never born
“Gabriella!” Her mother spat. “Turn that shitty music off now! What have I told you?”
“Yes mother.” Gabriella sighed. She turned off the radio, but the song still played inside her brain. She knew she’d need it.
“Don’t give me that tone! You dirty bitch!” Her mother smacked her hard across the face. Gabriella’s head moved swiftly with the hand. It stung, a lot, but Gabriella had become used to it, so ignored the pain. She knew worse was to come.
Through the wind and the rain,
She stands hard as a stone in a world that she can't rise above
Carrie began to cry. She screamed at the top of lungs, wanting comfort. Gabriella went to pick her up, but was stopped immediately when her mother’s knee collided with her stomach.
“Leave her be. She needs to learn some independence. She’ll become a spoiled brat. Like you.” Once again, the hate bubbled higher inside of Gabriella. Carrie was too young to understand. She needed someone to tell her that everything would be okay.
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved.
Concrete Angel
“Now, what did I tell you to do before I got back?” Her mother snarled.
“Clean the house, feed Carrie, make dinner, and set your bed.”
“Now, as far as I can see, Gabriella,” Her mother spat her name like it was an extremely bad word that shouldn’t be said, “I don’t see a tidy house, I have no dinner, and I’m sure if I check, my bed will be in the same state it was this morning. Which means in all the time I’ve been gone, you’ve only fed… that.” Gabriella’s mother never called Carrie by name. If it weren’t for Gabriella, she wouldn’t even have a name.
“Don’t call her that. Her name is Carrie!” Gabriella growled.
SMACK!
Somebody cries in the middle of the night,
The neighbours hear but they turn out the lights
“Don’t you dare talk to me like that! Ever! Now what’s your excuse for not doing everything hey? Had boys over again have you?” Her mothers face was now mere millimetres from her daughters.
“You make me sick.” Gabriella spat. This didn’t faze her however, instead Gabriella fell to the floor.
“That was for being cheeky.”
A fragile soul caught in the hands of fate,
When morning comes it will be too late.
Gabriella held tightly onto her stomach, pain washing over every part of her.
“Yeah, how’d you like that?” Her mother just laughed into her face. Gabriella smelt the stench of alcohol on her breathe. That stuff really kills Gabriella thought. Carrie was still howling, and she saw her mother walking towards the baby.
“Don’t you touch her.” Gabriella growled.
Through the wind and the rain,
She stands hard as a stone in a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved.
Concrete Angel
Her mother ignored her, and went straight up to Carrie. She whimpered in fright as the girl saw her mother’s large figure looming over her. She roughly grabbed Carrie’s cheeks, digging her finger nails deep into her cheeks. Carrie screamed helplessly.
“Shut up you cow! What the fuck is your problem!” Her mother roared. She threw Carrie’s face to the side, causing her to hit her head on her highchair. She howled in pain. And Gabriella had to witness the whole thing.
A statue stands in a shaded place,
An angel girl with an upturned face
Their mother eventually walked up the stairs to her room. Gabriella picked herself up off the floor and lifted Carrie out of her high chair. She held the baby close to her, rocking her back and forth. Carrie silenced her crying at her sister’s touch.
Her name is written on a polished rock,
A broken heart that the world forgot.
An hour later, Gabriella was still downstairs, changing Carrie’s nappy. It then that she decided what she had to do. She went over to Carrie’s rusty old pram, and carefully placed the baby inside, who instantly fell asleep. She wrapped as many blankets as she could around her, packed a bag full of clean nappy’s and bottles that she would need for Carrie, and knelt down in front of the sleeping baby.
“I put up with her hurting me. I didn’t want to. But I did it for you baby. But now she’s turned on you. And I’m not having that. I’m not letting her hurt you anymore Carrie. We’re running away. I promise I won’t let anybody hurt you. Never ever.”
Through the wind and the rain,
She stands hard as a stone in a world that she can't rise above;
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved.
Concrete Angel
And with that, Gabriella walked out of house that held so many bad memories for her. The house that was home to the hell her life was. But now she had a second chance. To make it right. And she smiled to herself at the thought of a happier life for her and Carrie. And she never turned back.
