I feel like a freaking slave! Henri keeps nagging at me to do the fic even though I've got other stories! Meh... I guess I'm just Chris the Fanfic Slave.

XXXX

Lena sat at the edge of Cassidy Lake. It was the perfect autumn day. The leaves on the trees were turning shades or orange, red, yellow, brown, and purple. The sky was clear blue with a few wispy white clouds. Yet… she looked rather dismal. While everyone was of frolicking with their digimon, she was sitting here. Alone. It seemed Rena rather… disliked her. She seemed to regard everything Lena said to her as if it were stupid and she had run off many times already.

Lena sighed. “I think we were a mistake…”

“La la la la la la la la la…”

Lena looked up and saw a girl sitting on one side of the lake. She had blonde hair that looked golden in the sunlight and she had her feet in the water. And she was singing. Very well, actually. Her voice made Lena think of an angel. She stood and began walking towards the girl. Her forehead was resting on her knees and her face was hidden in the golden waterfall she had for hair. When she got close she spoke. “Hey. I’m Lena.”

The girl stopped singing abruptly and looked up. “Oh… hey Lena.” Kotone gave her a small half-hearted smile. “Pull up a patch of grass.” She patted the grass next to her and allowed Lena to sit.

“What’re you doing here?” Lena asked.

Kotone shrugged. “Just… sitting here. Did you go to school today?” The orphans often skipped school, but amazingly they never got held back. Mainly because the school thought it was just a fluke on Miss. Parker’s part since she had to look out for so many children.

Lena nodded. “Just got out. Didn’t you go?”

Kotone shook her head. “I’ve been roaming around the city all day. Besides, I wasn’t facing that demon woman again.”

“Demon woman?” Lena repeated. “Who?”

Kotone looked at the water. “She’s one of my teachers. She went to school with my mom and always hated her because she was prettier, smarter, more popular, and she had a crush on my mom’s boyfriend. I bet she was sooo overjoyed when she say me walk into that classroom and knew exactly who’s daughter I was. So she tortures me. The other day we had a fire drill and she says ‘Remember children, fire drills are very important. Tell your parents as well or you’ll end up like a little girl in this class.’ I hate that woman!”

“I know what its like to hate someone. But… I guess… in order for blessing to come your way, you have to forgive them. At least… that’s what I was told.” Lena said, looking at Kotone. Then she looked out the water and asked quietly, “How did your parents die?”

“You sound like a preacher…” Kotone said, staring at her.” Kotone dug her fingers into the dirt. “A fire. It happened when I was four… they had to take us down one by one and after they got Taro out… it collapsed. Nine people died… including my parents. And its all because some son of a bitch decided it would be fun to set a building on fire!”

Lena smiled. “Funny you should say that… back home it was a priest who helped me get through life while I sat at the orphanage.” Her smile faded. “I’m sorry… people sometimes fail to see the results of their actions… even after they’ve done so…”

“Ah.” Kotone said. She looked at the ground. “I hope that guy knows a good bodyguard… ‘cause next time I see him I swear I’ll beat him to a pulp… because of him Hikaru doesn’t know his parents!”

Lena stared at her. “But hating him won’t make things right, will it? I know it sounds corny but… its better to forgive than hate… otherwise… you close off your heart to everyone… including the ones that care about you the most.”

Kotone laid down on her back and put her hands behind her head. “I’m never going to forgive him. I know hating him does nothing… but it’s all I can do. Even if my parents magically came back, I most likely still wouldn’t forgive him.” She stared up at one of the few wispy clouds. “Closing my heart off sounds a lot better than feeling nothing but pain. At least to me.” She sat back up. “If you ever go down town and see all the street kids and gangs and others you’ll find that hate is a very popular emotion.”

Lena sighed. “It shouldn’t be. I mean… if we all grow up surrounded by hate and anger… what will we become when we’re full grown?” She looked at Kotone. “I mean if I let hate get the better of me, I’d hate everyone I saw. I’d beat up every bum that looked at me or even asked me for help.” She sighed and looked at the water. “It’s a virus Kotone, don’t you see that? It spreads like the plague and sooner or later… it kills.”

Kotone shrugged. “I found out long ago about hate. One night… before I became an orphan… Taro was walking me home. And… we witnessed a gang war. And while we hid and watched… I just accepted it. Nothing can stop two people from hating each other.” She sighed. “It really is… I know the cycle. First your unhappy… then your angry at the entire world. Then there’s pure rage and even violence… and finally… you come to hate. I know… I’ve been there. So has Taro. That’s why I worry about him. He’s not my brother anymore… he hasn’t smiled in seven years… not once. Not since we became orphans… its sad. It really is.”

Lena grinned at her. “Then maybe we can find a way to make him smile!” She stood. “You might be right… but I’m still going to try and convince people that hate isn’t needed. And maybe help them, too. So now what? Do you think we should go back to orphanage… or do you want to stay here?”

Kotone sighed. “I’ve tried.” She smiled. “Though he has a nice smile… he doesn’t look like a gang member when he smiles.” She shook her head. “Nah, I’m going to stay here a while. I don’t get much time to relax. Taking care of Hikaru and making sure Taro doesn’t kill someone is hard enough work, but now I have to this monster thing-”

“I told you,” Raionessmon said from within her digivice. “I’m a digimon!”

“Oh same difference!” Kotone said, pulling out her digivice.

“At least yours seems to want to bond with you. All Rena does is just ignore me and pretend I don’t exist. I guess she’s disappointed…” Lena said sadly. She sighed and shook her head. “Well… see ya Kotone…”

Kotone nodded and waved as she watched the girl run off. She sighed and looked back at the water. Hmm… I think I should pay a visit to the zoo tonight…

xxxx

“Realize!”

Raionessmon appeared with a flash of light. She looked at her partner, then at her surroundings. They were in front of the gate that led into the zoo. Apparently Kotone had jumped the gate were you had to pay. But they couldn’t get in anyway, the large wrought-iron gate was chained shut.

“Why are we here?” Raionessmon asked. She looked at the sky. Black with little white stars shining contently and a large yellow moon. “And in the middle of the night?”

“Too crowded during the day.” Kotone answered simply. She then began to climb over the gate. She climbed like she had done it a hundred times. Kotone swung one leg over the side and sat between two spikes. “Coming?”

Raionessmon sighed. “I have a bad feeling about this…” She began climbing as well, almost as swiftly and expertly as Kotone.

“Funny. Lions aren’t really climbers.” Kotone said as she jumped down. She landed on her feet and waited for her partner.

Raionessmon jumped down and landed at her side. She looked around. The zoo looked a bit spooky at night. The sign announcing the birth of the new lion cubs looked a bit menacing with a large male lion roaring and the three cubs beside him looked like little demons. The poster of the panda chewing on some bamboo suddenly looked frightening. But she didn’t seem to care. “And you come here why? The animals are all asleep.”

Kotone shrugged. “I know. I don’t come for the animals though. I come to think and relax a bit.” She started walking down one of the paths.

Raionessmon walked at her side. “So you come to a place that smells like elephant crap to relax… nice. Can’t you just go to the roof of the orphanage like everyone else?”

Kotone hit her on the back of the head and sighed. “Shut up.”

xxxx

In the lion exhibit one of the cubs came out of the cave. He yawned and looked around. Then he saw a shady figure standing next to the pond. Daddy? But no… this newcomer had two tails and too much jewelry like some of the human women that came to see him and his siblings. The lion cub gave a pitiful roar, attempting to ward off the newcomer.

The lion turned to him and let out a menacing roar.

The cub squealed and ran back into his cave. He nestled himself between his parents then fell asleep.

The lion, Raiamon, laughed. “I will destroy all those that defy Lord Shivamon!”

xxxx

Both of the girls jumped at the sound of a menacing roar. Kotone looked at Raionessmon accusingly, but the lioness shook her head.

“What was that? Are the lions awake?” Raionessmon asked, looking down the path.

Kotone shook her head. “Ahadi is lazy and Vitani has been really tired lately. And no cub on this earth can roar like that.”

“Ya think?” Raionessmon asked. She stood up on two legs and sniffed the air. “Hmm… come on. Time to investigate.” She got back down on all fours and began running, Kotone following close behind.

xxxx

Raiamon leapt out of the exhibit with one easy leap. He sniffed the air. A human and a digimon were near. The digimon smelled like a distant cousin, though it was only a Rookie’s scent. He smirked. “Easy prey…” He hid in the bushes and waited.

xxxx

Kotone and Raionessmon arrived at the exhibit. Kotone leaned over the railing. “That’s funny… I see them all in there… asleep.” She could just make out the three cubs curled up next to their parents, all safe and warm and happy. Kotone let out a sad sigh.

Raionessmon cocked her head. “Something wrong?”

Kotone jumped, then shook her head. “Nothing… hey… do you get the feeling we’re being watched?”

Raionessmon sniffed the air, then nodded slowly. “I am not the only digimon present… Kotone… be extremely careful…”

xxxx

Raiamon watched the two from the bushes. One of the human tamers was before him, this one a young female. And a Raionessmon. He knew he smelled a cousin! But she was just a cub, puny and powerless compared to the king he was. So in summary, the two were an easy meal for him. He growled and leapt out of the bushes. “PREY!”

Both girls whirled around. Raionessmon snarled, showing sharp white teeth. “I knew I smelled another digimon! Kotone, stay back!” With that Raionessmon got to two feet and ran at Raiamon.

“WHITE PAW!”

White energy began to surround Raionessmon’s paw and she clenched her paw. The attack hit Raiamon in the face and he stumbled back. But then he grinned and let out a low, menacing chuckle.

“You’re a strong cub… but not as strong as a king!” Raiamon said, smirking. With that he leaped at Raionessmon.

“CRITICAL STRIKE!”

A direct blow to Raionessmon’s side slammed her into a nearby park bench. Pieces of painted wood went flying everywhere and the animals awoke and started to call out into the night from panic.

Raiamon looked at Raionessmon who was down and listened to the calls of the animals. He rolled his eyes. “Pathetic creatures…” He turned to Kotone, who was still frozen in place. He let out that low menacing chuckle again. “You’ll make a nice midnight snack…” With that he charged.

Raionessmon opened her eyes, dazed. She shook her head as if trying to shake away her pain. “My aching head…” She rubbed her side, wincing. Then Raionessmon saw Raiamon charging at Kotone. “Kotone… KOTONE! KOTONE GET OUT OF THE WAY!” She ran towards Raiamon, coming up behind him and running at his side. “Don’t you dare touch her!”

“RED FANG!”

Raionessmon bit into Raiamon’s neck and set her back paws firmly against the ground and pulled back, trying to halt him and by some time for her partner to get out of the way. Meanwhile Kotone was frozen with shock and horror. Then she shook her head and jumped over the railing and into the lion exhibit. She had a long drop and she hit the ground with her hands and toppled over on to her back. “Ow…”

Raiamon roared, furious at the cub and how she’d made him miss his chance for a human meal. “YOU LITTLE BITCH!” He slammed into the wall of an exhibit and the two busted through the wall and into the elephant exhibit. The elephants roared and stampeded out of the exhibit, afraid of being hurt by the battle.

Kotone, mean while, was using the zookeeper exit to get out of the lion exhibit. When she was out she was nearly tramped by the stampeding elephants. She swore and ran into the exhibit, where Raionessmon was back against the wall. “RAIONESSMON! KICK HIS BUTT!”

Raionessmon nodded. “WHITE PAW!”

“Not so fast kitty!” Raiamon growled. Suddenly electricity began to spark around his mane and a ball of electricity was sent flying towards Raionessmon. “THUNDER OF THE KING!”

Raionessmon was sent flying into two side-by-side exhibits. Chimps and gorillas came pouring out and like the elephants, they were wanting to get as far away from the battle as humanly possible.

“Aww great!” Kotone muttered as she ran past the animals. She ran into the chimp exhibit and saw Raionessmon in the gorilla exhibit, not moving. “Wha… Raionessmon!” Kotone ran to her partner and knelt down beside her. She had to shove a young chimp aside and he ran off after his mother, acting as if she’d murdered him. “Raionessmon… get up. Come on. I… I really like you and I don’t want to lose you right after I’ve met you!”

Raionessmon opened her eyes and staggered to her feet. “I… I won’t give up. A lion never does.” With that she stood in front of Kotone and growled at Raiamon, who was advancing towards them. “Just try and come any closer and your dead meat.”

Raiamon laughed. “You think a cub like you can defeat me?” Again, electricity began to dance on his mane. “THUNDER OF THE KING!” But this blast wasn’t directed at Raionessmon, but Kotone. “DIE HUMAN SCUM!”

“KOTONE!” Raionessmon screamed. She knocked her partner over and allowed the attack to hit her. Then she fell and went limp, laying partially on Kotone’s legs. Kotone gasped and pulled her legs out from under her partner, then started to shake her gently.

“Raionessmon…” Kotone whispered. “Raionessmon… come on… get up… please… I’ve lost too many people already! I don’t want to lose you too! I really want to be your friend, Raionessmon… please don’t leave… this is the first time in seven years I’ve tried to open my heart to anyone… don’t make me regret it… please don’t leave…” When she got no response Kotone sighed and slammed her fist down on to the ground. And suddenly, she felt her hand tingle. It was surrounded by something red, almost like the one Henri had had the night GeoGreymon appeared.

Raionessmon’s eyes opened a bit. She smiled. “Its your Digi-Soul, Kotone…”

Kotone blinked and looked at her hand. “Digi-Soul…” Then by instinct she pulled out her digivice and adopted a determined look on her face.

DNA… CHARGE!

RAIONESSMON DIGIVOLVE TO… KISAKIMON!”

101010101010101010

Kisakimon stood up on four feet. She had tan fur, a white underbelly, and angel wings. The spikes on her tail had fused together into a stinger that sat at the tip of her long whip-like tail. A golden collar with a red gem was placed around her neck. Plus she was about the size of a horse. She growled and her tail lashed at the air. “The hunter becomes the hunted…” With that she began advancing towards Raiamon.

Raiamon looked at the creature before him. “The cub… digivolved?” For the first time, Raiamon looked frightened. “Lord Shivamon lied to me… he said this one couldn’t digivolve with her human!” With that Raiamon charged in a blind rage and raised his forearms. “CRITICAL STRIKE!”

Kisakimon stood still and allowed the attack to hit her. She stumbled back and smirked. “You fell right into my trap…” She glance behind her to look at her partner. “COVER YOUR EARS KOTONE!” When she saw Kotone obey, she looked back at Raiamon. “Rule number one, never get in range of the huntress. QUEEN’S ROAR!”

Raiamon, who was completely caught off guard, was blown backwards out of the exhibit and smashed into some trees. The attack was strong and he already noticed some parts of him turning into data. “BITCH! I WILL KILL YOU!” He then started his thunder attack again.

Kisakimon wouldn’t let him get away with that. She ran at him and stood on two legs, balancing as if she were a dog. And then she slashed him across the face and fell back down on to four legs.

Raiamon was feeling weak, but he wanted to kill something. Eyeing Kotone, who had just emerged from the exhibit, he released a blood lust roar and leapt over Kisakimon. Then he ran at the human. Kotone just stood there, her head held high. Daring him to even try to kill her.

Kisakimon roared as well and ran to Raiamon’s side. She jabbed his side with her stinger, then rammed into him and knocked him down.

Raiamon roared with pain and his data began to break apart. “There… will be… others…” With that his data completely broke apart, leaving a digitama and the data went into Kotone’s digivice.

Kotone smirked and put her digivice away. Kisakimon trotted to her partner and Kotone patted her on the head. “Good job.” Kisakimon purred and then looked at all the animals that were running around loose. She sighed. "Time for some animal herding.” She allowed Kotone to climb on to her back and they started to herd the animals back into their exhibits.

In the trees sat a digimon. He frowned. He had watched the entire battle and was deeply disappointed that these idiotic digimon Lord Shivamon kept sending repeatedly failed. “That ‘hunter’ couldn’t hunt at all… no cunning.” He watched as Kotone and Kisakimon began to quickly herd the chimps back into their exhibit. He looked towards the rest of the city. “To know ones victim, you must watch ones victim.” Then his eyes fell back on Kotone. “And she shall be first.” And with that the digimon disappeared.
