Yumi sat on the table she had been sleeping on for the past few months in a white dress and white shoes now that her old clothes had been burnt in the fire.

She kicked her feet against the table and squirmed as the doctor tried to examine her. “Yumi, stop it.” Saki said, trying to get her to sit still.

“Why is she acting like a child?” Dr. Amagi asked.

“Maybe that kiss had something to do with it.” Dr. Wolski suggested.

Dr. Amagi wrote on her clip board and looks at Yumi who kept kicking her feet against the table. “Yumi.” She said, Yumi stopped moving and looked at her. “Behave.” She said and the kicking stopped.

Yumi looked around the lab that she had destroyed but didn’t currently remember doing so, her mind was a bit foggy but she giggled and the kicking started up again.

Saki, Dr. Wolski and Dr. Amagi’s head flew to Yumi, she sounded so young. “Yumi,” Dr. Wolski started. “How are you feeling?”

Yumi didn’t answer but stared ahead and kept kicking the table.

Saiki reached for her, ready to help her down but was stopped.

Dr. Amagi shook her head. “We have a few more things to do before she can leave. Can you go wait with the others?”

“What’s wrong with her?” Saki asked seriously but was pushed out the door.

Downstairs:

Saki walked downstairs into the kitchen and saw Nadeshiko giving her sisters and the humans’ tea, hoping to calm their nerves. “Good morning Saki.” She said with a smile and pulled out a chair for her. “Sit, you’ve had a rough morning.”

Kurumi sat next to Saki, her hair now the same length as her sisters.

Ulrich looked up at her. “What happened to Yumi?” he asked.

“Yeah,” Karinka said. “Where is she now…did the doctors…?”

“No…” Saki said. “She’s not deactivated.”

“You mean not yet.” Tsunami said.

“What are you talking about?” Odd asked looking at the pink haired angel.

“Oh wake up Odd.” Kaoru said. “They’re going to shut her down sooner or later.”

Nadeshiko nodded sadly in agreement. “As much as I hate to say it…Yumi is defective…Defective, dangerous…and has a weak body if she can be possessed.”

Saki hit the table so hard it cracked. “Nothings wrong with her!” she yelled. “She’s going to be just fine and we’re all going to put this behind us!”

She looked at her sisters accusingly. “If she had not gone to Paris none of this would have happened! You want to call someone weak? You’re all weak for not fighting harder to keep her here! This is your fault!” she stormed out of the room leaving everyone to recover from shock. They had never seen her so mad.

Ulrich stood and followed her and found her sitting outside, crying. “Saki?” he said and sat next to her.

“What?” she asked trying to dry her tears.

“Do you want to go see Yumi?” He asked her.

“I can’t.” Saki told him. “They aren’t done testing her and when they are they’re call us in.”

“Oh…” Ulrich said softly and wondered how he could get her to calm down. “So…why don’t you tell me about her?”

Saki looked at him, her cheeks still tearstained. “Tell you what about her?”

“Anything.” He answered. “What she was like when she lived here…or about the day she was born…” he suddenly remembered she was an android. “Or built.” He corrected.

Saki sniffled and sat up straight. “You could have said built or activated…but if you want to know so badly…I’ll tell you.”

Flashback:

Saki had just finished her training with Kurumi and was on her way up to her room. When she passed the lab and saw the doctors hovering over something.

Saki peeked in and heard Dr. Amagi say. “I think we should get rid of this one too.” It was then Saki saw a little foot. “Is that a doll?” she asked walking in.

The doctors were surprised to see her but didn’t block her view. Saki looked and saw what seemed to be a baby sleeping on the table.

Saki smiled, she was so cute. She had pale skin, but her cheeks were rosy and she had dark hair, her eyes were closed, so Saki couldn’t tell what color they were and she was wrapped in a white blanket.

“Aww,” Saki said. “A baby?”

“Yes.” Dr. Wolski said. “A baby angel.”

“A mark four.” Dr. Amagi added.

“Wow!” Saki said and touched the baby’s cold hand. “But why would you get rid of her?”

The doctors looked at each other. “Well…” Amagi started. “We can’t get her to work.”

Saki looked at them and gave the baby a gentle shake as if she could wake her up. “Maybe you two missed something.” She suggested.

“I doubt it.” Dr. Wolski said. “We’ve tried twice.”

“Third time’s the charm.” Saki said.

They both smiled at her. “Well, Dr. Wolski,” Dr. Amagi said. “Let’s go down and check the other computers, maybe there is something we missed.”

The two of them left and Saki stayed behind. “I wonder what you’d be like.” She said to the still lifeless child. She wondered how many other mark fours had been destroyed and was determined not to let this little one become one of them.

“How do you wake a sleeping angel?” she whispered and instantly thought of Kurumi and how she herself was woken up. She’d have to do it herself, or else this one would be destroyed.

Saki looked around and whispered. “I hope this works.” She leaned over and kissed the baby softly, but got no result.

She closed her eyes and dropped her head sadly but snapped out of it when she heard a tiny whimper. Saki looked up and saw that the baby’s skin wasn’t so pale anymore.

The little girl wiggled and slowly opened her eyes; Saki smiled brightly and saw that they were a beautiful hazel color. “Wow.” Saki whispered and carefully picked up the miniature angel and cradled her in her arms as she sat on the table. “Look how cute you are.”

The baby looked at Saki, obviously confused and frightened. She started to wail and squirm in Saki’s arms. “Oh no…” Saki whispered and gently rocked her. “Shhh…” she murmured. “Don’t be scared…I wont hurt you…I’m your older sister.”

The baby started to calm down but hiccupped a bit. Saki knew she was the baby’s sister, but felt an even stronger bond with her. The infant made gurgling noises and giggled. Saki smiled. “My little baby.” She whispered and nuzzled the baby’s cheek.

Dr. Amagi and Dr. Wolski walked back into the room and heard the mark four cooing softly, they stared with wide eyes and dropped jaws at Saki and the little one. “Saki…” Dr. Amagi whispered.

Saki looked up and held the baby closer to her. “I…Activated her…” she whispered.

“So I see.” Dr. Wolski said and walked closer to observe the one they couldn’t activate. “She looks normal, but perhaps we should…”

“She’s just fine.” Saki interrupted. “I can tell.”

“Who’s going to look after her?” Dr. Amagi asked.

“Look after her?” Dr. Wolski asked.

“Angel or not, she’s still a baby.”

“It would take time away from my training, but I’ll do it.” Saki said.

“No.” Dr. Wolski said. “We can get Nadeshiko to do it.”

“No.” Saki said sharply. “I activated her when you couldn’t, so she’s mine.” Saki looked at the baby and smiled. “Besides…she responds to me.”

Dr. Amagi looked at them and smiled. It was true, the mark four was already responding to the one who activated her. “Okay.” She said. “This one is your responsibility.”

“Thank you.” Saki said and smiled brightly.

“What will you call her?” Dr. Wolski asked.

Saki looked down at her little hazel eyed wonder and touched her nose. “Yumi.” Saki said. “I’ll call her Yumi, because she’s so cute and perfect.”

Flashback ends:

“So...” Ulrich said. “You were the first to activate her?”

“Yes.” Saki said nodding.

“You’re not her sister…” Ulrich told her. She quickly turned her head to her and glared. “You’re her mother.”

Saki relaxed and looked at him. He was right, she had taken care of Yumi when she was a baby and was close to her. She knew everything about her. She was Yumi’s mother.

“Saki!” Tsunami yelled. “Come inside! Quick! It’s about Yumi!”

Inside:

Everyone went into the lab were Yumi sat like a statue until Saki came in and she smiled and reached for her. Saki wasted no time in running to her and hugging her. “Are you alright?” she asked softly.

Yumi didn’t speak but nodded slowly.

“Why won’t she talk?” Karinka asked.

“She’s fine.” Dr. Amagi said. “She just still in shock…and is a tad bit out of her head.”

Yumi heard them talking and started kicking the table again. “No.” Saki said and gently held her legs.

“Is that the reason she’s acting like a child?” Kaoru asked and walked over.

“Yes,” Dr. Wolski answered. “But that should stop and she will start talking again.”

“We did a cat scan, it seems she lost a few memories.” Amagi said.

“A few days here should get them all back right?” Kurumi asked. “I mean if she was back at the place she was born.”

Saki looked at Kurumi. “This is where she was born…if that’s what you wanna call it, but you’re right.”

“Yes,” Dr. Amagi said. “She’s right, a few days and Yumi will be back to normal.”

“What do we do until then?” Ulrich asked.

Dr. Wolski’s answer was quick and sharp “Make sure she doesn’t hurt herself.”
