Hand of the Devil

-Sango becomes the wielder of a powerful weapon, but she realizes that this weapon is more than it seems. -

This is an Inuyasha/Witchblade crossover! Enjoy

They had been ambushed. A large pack of demons surrounded them and they just kept coming. Inuyasha's arms were getting tired, the Tetsusaiga growing heavier and heavier with each swing. Kagome was running very low on arrows, Shippo cowering behind her leg. Miroku had his right hand in a fist, the glove and prayer beads hanging lose. Sango was sore all over, her shoulder and arm tired from swing Hirakotsu. The pack of demons closed in again. They needed to escape or they were going to die. Sango leapt onto Kirara's back and the demon neko leapt into the air. Sango searched for a weak spot in the pack. She found one, but before she could go down and tell her friends, a bird-demon dropped from a higher altitude, knocking Sango off Kirara's back. The sharp talons cut into her as the bird-demon's clawed feet closed around her. She was being carried away from her friends.

'No! I need to get back.'

The blade on her arm popped out and slashed through the demon's foot. The bird-demon shrieked in pain, dropping Sango. Luckily, they were had flown over a deep river. Sango twisted around and dove through the surface. The swift current swept her along as her head broke the surface.

'Gotta reach the bank...'

Sango thought to herself as she began swimming towards shore. She swam diagonally, letting the current sweep her close to shore. Tired, Sango dragged her body into shallow water and collapsed, gasping for breath.

--

"I have... to get back... save my... friends..."

she panted to herself, trying to force herself onto her feet. As she got to her feet, she slipped and fell back into the shallow water.

"Unnn... come on. Get up!"

She growled at herself. As Sango lifted herself up again, a glint of red caught her eye. Lying just a few inches away was a bracelet with a red stone.

"?"

Sango found herself mesmerized by the object. As she continued to stare at it, she felt her right arm reaching out to it and a whisper in her ears. Sango's fingers brushed against the object. The red stone shone suddenly. Black tendrils shot out from it and snaked around Sango's arm.

"Ahhh!!"

Sango screamed, sitting up. The tendrils had dug into her arm and were traveling up, underneath her skin.

'What is this?!' "Aaaaaggghhhh!!"

-

Inuyasha's ears twitched.

"What was that?"

He shouted at Kagome as he ran. They had managed to break free from the pack and were now fleeing.

"It sounded like Sango..."

Shippo replied.

"So you think she's hurt?"

Kagome asked. Kirara mewled and headed towards the right.

"I think Kirara's found something."

They followed her until they reached a river bank. Sango was lying on the rocky bank, clutching her right arm and screaming in pain.

"Sango!"

Miroku exclaimed, running to her side. The rest crowded around her.

"Sango, what's wrong?"

Kagome asked, trying to calm her friend.

"Get it off!! Aaaahhh! Get it off!!"

she screamed. Sango had let go of her wrist. The bracelet she had found was on her wrist, the red stone blazing brightly.

"What is that?"

Shippo asked.

"I don't know. She must have found it."

Kagome replied. A large demon smashed through the trees, sniffing the air.

"This scent... so... exhilarating..."

It's eyes focused on Sango.

"You!! Hahahaha... amazing... so amazing."

Crazed, the demon charged at the group, sweeping aside the others and picking Sango up by the neck.

"You're simply amazing. It'll be fun to tear you to pieces."

"Sango!! NO!!"

Miroku yelled, getting to his feet.

"Eeerrraaaaaggghhhh!!"

The demon screamed. Blood gushed from the stump where it's left arm was. Sango was whimpering now, holding her right arm. A black tendril had snaked out from between her fingers. The demon staggered back,

"Eerrr...eerrrr...I'll tear out your innards!!"

It roared, charging at Sango. Sango screamed, letting go of her right arm. The red stone on the bracelet blazed brightly, nearly blinding the demon and the others. The next thing they knew, the demon lay dead, sliced to ribbons.

"What... what just happened?"

Kagome asked, confused.

"I'm not sure..."

Inuyasha replied, standing up.

"Where's Sango?"

was Miroku's main concern.

--

"Inu...Inuyasha..."

Shippo stammered, trembling badly.

"What?"

He snapped. Shippo gulped,

"Some...something's wrong...with Sango."

They all looked to where Shippo was pointing at. Sango was standing a few feet away from the demon's corpse. Dark blood dripped from a blade jutting out from her forearm. Her right arm appeared to be covered in black armor. They crept closer to her, unsure.

"Sango..."

Kagome called out to her.

"Not enough... it wasn't nearly enough..."

Sango muttered. Her voice was darker and her bangs covered her face.

"Sango, are you okay?"

Inuyasha asked her. Sango straightened up and turned. Her eyes were blood red. She began to laugh, sending chills down everyone's spines.

'What's happened to Sango?'

Miroku thought.

"I need more."

Sango said, then she began walking away. Inuyasha could hear the howls and roars of the pack of demons.

"Damn, they've caught up with us. Sango, come on. We can't stay here."

Sango just stood on the bank, staring at the forest.

"Here they come... will they be enough?"

Sango chuckled to herself, the gem on her right wrist glowing brightly. The demons came, a horde of them, bursting out of the forest. Black tendrils shot out from her back and sliced through the demons. Torrents of blood splashed all over Sango's yukata. More poured out of the trees, claws and fangs bared.

"Come on!!"

Sango shouted excitedly.

--

A demon's claws caught on her yukata as she dodged the attack, ripping it off her body. Instead of her slayer outfit underneath, the black armor had spread. (For those who haven't gotten it yet, Sango's wielding the Witchblade. If you have any idea what I'm referring to, then you know just how much this armor covers. If you don't, sigh I'll explain it while you do a google image search for it. And as a side note, I'm going along with the anime/manga version, not the comics.) Most of her torso was bare, the armor barely covering her breasts and lower regions. Her right arm was completely covered in a clawed gauntlet. The lower part of her legs were also covered in the black armor, stylized like a high-heeled boot. She continued to evade the demons, slaughtering them. Her red eyes danced and she laughed each time her blade passed through flesh and bone. The demon's finally got wise and turned and fled. Sango stood among the carnage, literally drenched in demon blood.

"Not enough... must kill... more..."

She panted, licking the blood off her arm. She disappeared into the forest in pursuit of the demons.

"Sango!!"

Miroku shouted after her, but she was gone.

"I'm going to go after her."

"Are you fucking insane?!"

Inuyasha snapped at Miroku.

"That isn't Sango anymore. Something's possessed her and you saw what she did to those demons. What makes you think she won't turn around and kill you?"

Miroku shrugged,

"It's a chance I'll have to take."

He vanished into the forest.

"That idiot."

Inuyasha snarled. He took one step and collapsed.

"Inuyasha!!"

Kagome exclaimed, running to his side. He was bleeding pretty badly from a wound in his side.

"Stay still. You're badly hurt."

-

Miroku had lost track of Sango's trail.

"Damn it!! Where could she have gone?"

He heard shrieking off to the left as well as blood spattering. 'That has to be her.' He took off in that direction. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a demon charged out, slamming Miroku into a tree.

"Foolish mortal!!"

it snarled. Miroku ducked under the clawed hand. Flames shot from the demon's mouth, narrowly missing Miroku. Unfortunately, his robes managed to catch on fire. Unable to put the flames out, Miroku quickly tore the robes off. The sutras he had managed to attach to the demon smoked and sizzled, but didn't seem to faze it. Its razor sharp claws raked across his chest as he leapt backwards. Blood trickled from the open gashes. Unable to regain his footing, Miroku fell backwards, landing on flat on his back. The demon loomed over him,

"I've got you now...Ghhhwaaakkk!!"

The demon had been sliced in half, blood splashing just about everything. Miroku sat up,

"Sango?"

She was standing in front of him, her red eyes glowing brightly.

"Ha...ha...ha..."

her breathing was heavy and ragged. The blade jutting from her right arm slid back, disappearing into the armor. Miroku pulled himself to his feet, leaning his back against the trunk of a tree.

"Sango? Is that really you?"

She didn't say anything, but walked towards him, stepping past the severed halves of the demon without a second glance.

"Miroku..."

she murmured as she got closer. He was about to reply, but she placed a finger on his lips to stop him. Her red eyes were lusty and her breath warm. Her tongue trailed along his neck, startling Miroku.

"What are you..."

She hissed in his ear, her right hand splayed over his chest. Miroku winced as he felt the sharp tips dig into his skin. She moved her mouth to his shoulder, biting him. Her semi-sharp canines dug deep, drawing small droplets of blood.

"Sango, stop!"

He shouted. Sango straightened up and stared at him, taking a step back. He looked her up and down, eyes lingering where they shouldn't. The red glow in her eyes finally dimmed. The black armor encased her entirely, briefly, then vanished, leaving her in her black slayer's outfit. Sango teetered, then fell sideways. Miroku managed to catch her before she hit the ground. Sango moaned and opened her eyes. They were dark brown.

"Uunnnhhh... Miroku?"

Sango mumbled. Miroku breathed a sigh of relief.

'She's returned to normal.'

He helped her to her feet.

"Where are...!"

Sango's eyes fell on the demon carcass and the memories came, flooded her mind.

"Aaahhh!!"

Sango cried, clamping her hands over her ears as she heard the shrieks of the dying demons and her own voice, laughing amongst the cries of pain.

--

"Sango, are you..."

"Get away from me!!"

She shouted, flinching away from Miroku.

"Stay away!"

Miroku stared at her in surprise. Sango remembered every detail vividly; the smell of blood, the cries and shrieks of the demons as they were slashed to bits, the savage joy she felt. That's what scared her the most, the fact that she enjoyed it, took pleasure from killing. She felt a hand on her shoulder.

"Sango, tell me what's wrong."

Sango looked up into Miroku's face. He was concerned for her well-being. Sango bit her lip and turned away. She felt a tingling on her right arm. The bracelet was still there. Sango immediately tried to remove it, but it refused to budge.

"Get off!!"

She snarled, tugging at it. It lifted slightly. Gritting her teeth, Sango jerked hard on it. Tendrils immediately shot out of the bracelet and buried into her arm. Sango could feel it pulling itself back towards her. Something was whispering in her ear. Giving up, Sango let go and the bracelet reattached to her wrist. Miroku had watched the whole thing without saying a word.

"Sango, where did you find that?"

"By the river. It... just attached to me..."

She was trembling pretty badly. Miroku, unsure of what to do, wrapped an arm around her shoulders to comfort her.

"Are you going to be all right?" He asked. Sango shook her head,

"I don't know. This... this thing... it..."

Sango began to sob, her shoulders quaking. Miroku sighed and drew her closer, so she was resting against his chest.

-

No one said a word about the incident. After a week, Sango hadn't improved. She hadn't been sleeping or eating and she hardly paid attention when someone was talking to her. Miroku, along with everyone else, was very concerned about her. While camping one night. Sango had gone off to be by herself, leaving the others to talk in private.

"It won't come off her arm. It's attached to her."

Miroku said.

"Do you think it's some sort of demon?"

Kagome asked. Miroku shrugged,

"It's nothing I've ever heard of."

"I hope Sango recovers soon. I can't stand to see her like this."

Inuyasha and Miroku nodded in agreement.

"Whatever that thing is, it seems to react when there are demons nearby."

Inuyasha commented.

"Which means, we need to be careful. I think we got lucky this time. There's no guarantee she'll attack us the next time it happens."

--

Meanwhile, Sango was staring up at the night sky.

"Why me?"

she thought aloud. Sango sighed and held up her right arm. The black metal glistened in the moonlight at the red stone was dull. Sighing again, she ran her fingers through her hair, trying to think.

'I couldn't control myself. What if I attack my friends next time?'

"It's getting late."

Sango jumped, turning around to see who was behind her. Miroku was leaning against a tree a few feet away, arms crossed over his chest.

"Don't sneak up on me like that!"

Sango snapped, heart pounding her in chest.

"I'm sorry. I just didn't want to interrupt your thoughts."

Miroku apologized, giving her a slight bow.

"I... I'm sorry. I shouldn't have snapped at you."

Miroku smiled.

"It's all right. I'm sure you have a lot on your mind right now."

Sango sat down, Miroku taking a seat next to her.

"Do you want to talk?" Sango sighed,

"Miroku, were you and the others scared... of me?"

Miroku thought back to that day.

"I wasn't. I was worried about you and confused, but not scared."

Silence fell for a little while. Sango lifted her right arm again, looking at the bracelet fastened to her wrist.

"When... I slaughtered those demons, I felt a... a savage joy. It didn't just come from... this thing."

Sango paused, her breathing heavy. Miroku leaned closer.

"It came... from me as well. I... I enjoyed killing those demons."

Sango shuddered. Miroku wasn't sure what to say; there wasn't anything he could say to comfort her. Instead, he placed his hand over hers.

"Sango, I can't begin to comprehend what you're feeling right now, but, I'll always be here for you, no matter what."

Sango looked up at him, tears standing in her eyes. She couldn't take it anymore. She lunged onto Miroku, wrapping her arms around his neck and burying her face in the crook of his neck, nearly knocking him over. She began to sob uncontrollably. Miroku cradled her thin frame against his body and let her cry. It seemed like hours before her sobbing stop and her breathing became soft. Miroku gently pried her arms from around his neck. Sango had cried herself to sleep. Carefully, Miroku got to his feet and carried Sango back to the camp and tucked her into bed.
