Chapter One: Midnight Love, Morning Sleep

MegaKat City was quiet. A little too quiet. The city has changed a lot since there were no attacks from Dr. Viper, Dark Kat, or any other villains that threatened the peaceful city. Or was it a peaceful city? MegaKat City had a new evil … an evil that only came out after sunset. A werewolf. No one knows who or what it is; where it came from or how it found its source of food in the city.

Mayor Manx, along with the help of Deputy Mayor Callie Briggs, informed and declared a temporary law that no kat should be out after sunset, no matter what the reason was. Callie hated the fact that she couldn’t go out at night, since that was her favorite time of day to see a special someone. And that someone was T-Bone of the SWAT Kats. Of course, she liked Razor, Felina and NightKitten (Rebecca), but she developed a very special relationship with him that she could share with no one else.

Every night she would see T-Bone at her apartment, waiting for her on the balcony. They would talk for hours into the night until the sun was about to come up. Sometimes, they would be up all night watching movies, having dinner or just being warm in each other’s arms. She missed the feel of his arms wrapped around her, holding her until she fell asleep. When she woke up the next morning, he would leave her a bouquet of red roses in a vase on her nightstand. She felt so happy whenever she was around T-Bone.

But lately, she was unhappy because she couldn’t go out with him at night since the temporary law was set. The only kats that were allowed to be out after sunset were the Enforcers who were patrolling the streets in search for this creature. Callie felt so lonely ever since that law was passed until the beast was caught.

GOD! She fell in love with T-Bone, and she wasn’t going to let some stupid law force them to stay apart.

She was lying in her bed as she slowly traced the outline of the designs on her bed quilt. She loved to trace along the stitching of the flowers that reminded her of her garden when she was a kitten. She reached into her purse and pulled out a triangle-shaped button. It was used to call the SWAT kats.

She was about to push it when she heard a soft rustling sound on her balcony.

“You know that I would be here, no matter what they have to do to keep us apart” a voice softly replied to her as Callie turned to the window and saw T-Bone standing there, leaning against the wall, arms folded across his chest and smiling at her.

Callie felt a sense of dizziness as she got up from the bed, and walked over to him while wrapping her arms tightly around him. She felt so happy that she finally got to see him after knowing that he would never get caught at night.

“I thought you were asleep”

“I couldn’t sleep without knowing that you were okay” Callie replied sleepily as she felt dizzy when she took a step back and looked at T-Bone with glowing eyes. He wore a black mask around his eyes; blue-black-red flight suit and he really cared about her. His fur was a light yellow color with brown stripes up his arms. She never really got the chance to see his face.

Her mind swam with dizziness as she tried to grab something for support, but her vision was blurry so she couldn’t see T-Bone that well. She numbly felt her body lean backwards, but T-Bone quickly wrapped his arm around her waist and placed her back up against the wall. He looked at her with concerned eyes through his mask.

“How can I show her how I feel if I can’t show her my true identity. I love her with all my heart, but I just don’t want her to get hurt” T-Bone thought as he looked at her, gently brushing his knuckles over her cheek. Her eyes were green, and they stared at him with sleep. Lately, her glasses were giving her a hard time seeing anything. Her breath was raspy as she clung her hands at his shoulders.

“T-Bone …”

“Ssh. I’m right here, Callie” he whispered to her as he tried to take her glasses off her, and place them on the night table, but she jerked her head away.

“Callie, it’s okay. I’m just gonna take them off you” T-Bone softly replied as she smiled when he took her glasses off her face, and placed them on the table.

Callie felt him wrap the other arm around her waist, and pulled her close to him. She leaned her head on his shoulder while he ran his fingers through her hair. The smell of roses went through him as he held her in his arms. He felt her body tremble while he looked at Callie.

“What’s wrong?”

“I’m just … so …” Callie tried to say, but her body wouldn’t allow her to stay awake as she fell asleep in his arms. T-Bone smiled down at her while he carefully picked her up and carried her to the bed. He always loved to watch her sleep until the sun was almost up. He laid her down on the bed, and tucked her under the covers. He brushed a few strand of hair from her face, and smiled down at her.

“I’m always here when you need me, angel. Goodnight” T-Bone replied as he kissed Callie on the cheek. He was about to leave, but when he turned back to the bed, he couldn’t help but stay the night with her. Callie shivered underneath the covers, but stopped when T-Bone climbed into the covers, and wrapped his arm around her waist. He kissed her shoulder, and closed his eyes while breathing in the sweet smell of red roses from her.

A few hours went by, and T-Bone stirred in his sleep. He looked at the clock behind, and it read 5:30 AM. He had to leave before Callie woke up. He looked back at her sleepy form, and saw that she was sound asleep. He went to the tied up towel that laid on her dresser, and pulled out a bouquet of red roses. He placed them into the crystal-glass vase that was in the shape of a heart, and smiled to himself. He walked over to the bed, and kissed Callie’s cheek with tenderness.

“I’ll see you when you least expect it. I love you, Callie” T-Bone whispered to her ear as he covered the covers over her shoulders, and walked back to the window. He looked over his shoulder once, and smiled while he leaped out of the room, and flew back to the salvage yard.

Jake, Felina and Rebecca were leaning back in their chairs as they were watching the morning news with Ann Gora. Rebecca was known as NightKitten, who had the complete features of a kitten. She had bluish-purple eyes; creamy fur with black stripes that resembled those of a tiger; and a tail of a fox. No one knew why she had her tail that way. She mainly told everyone that she had a birth defect, and that it was no big deal. But she had more secrets than anyone else in MegaKat City. Her ears twitched as she heard the sounds of footsteps coming to her direction. She smiled as she heard T-Bone walk into the garage.

“You do realize that it’s already 6:30 in the morning?” Becca asked as she leaned farther back into her chair by the television.

“Yeah, I know. I was out seeing someone”

“Yeah, Miss Callie Briggs. Damn, Chance. Every night that you get, you spend more time with her than you do with us, and that’s saying something” Jake replied as he came out from underneath the car that he was working on.

Chance was taking his SWAT gear off, starting with his helmet and black bandana. He rubbed his eyes as he could still remember last night of him sleeping next to Callie in her apartment.

“I’m not taking her side over you guys. I would never leave you, but at the same time …”

“You want to be with Callie. I know. Sometimes, being who you are can really suck for you in life. I mean, I am an Enforcer and I have to deal with my uncle for so long. I don’t know if I can take his shit anymore” Felina replied as she lifted her legs, and stretched them out over the hood of the car.

“Yeah I hear you. Oh, speaking of your uncle, he came by earlier today asking about us fixing his car” Becca told Felina as she scratched her ear with her sharp nails.

“And? What did you say?”

“I told him to go fuck himself, and take the car and shove it up his ass” Becca replied with a smile on her face.

“BECCA!”

“What?! Jake, you know how much I hate him since he never gives us any credit for what we do. And we never gives us any respect for how long we’ve been working our asses off in the salvage yard for almost three years” Becca replied as she jumped out of her seat and walked over to Jake.

“Just let it go, Becca. Besides, you and him never see eye-to-eye” Chance replied as he came back out with his mechanic attire of blue shirt, white tank top and blue pants. He placed his red hat on his head and wiped his eyes with his hand from the sleepless night he had last night.

“Well, alright. I’ll let it go, for now. But I’m telling you right now Chance, he makes one mistake with us, and I’ll guarantee an ass-kicking in the middle of the city with him, whether I’m in uniform or not” Becca replied as she leaned against the car that Jake was working on.

“Well, let’s get working on these cars. My uncle will probably be wanting to bring the car in today before he leaves for a meeting at 3. So, Chance, if you’re up for it –“ Felina agitatedly replied until she was cut off by Chance.

“Hell yeah, I’m up for it. Let’s get going before we get into trouble” Chance replied tired as he grabbed a wrench and a screwdriver from the tool box, and began to work on the car.

But he couldn’t stop thinking about Callie. His whole body was begging for him to leave as T-Bone, and find Callie at her office. He wished that he could leave, and be with her all day and night. That’s all he ever wanted in life. Since he met Callie three years ago, he never stopped thinking of her, even when he was Chance by day and T-Bone by night.

“Callie. I love you with all my heart. I promise I’ll be therefore you whether it’s day or night” he thought to himself as he slowly worked on the car tiredly and wanting to sleep.
