Cut to a week before Halloween 2012 at about 8:00 pm. JENNIFER is on the floor in the apartment with some orange and black cloth, thread, and a needle. SARAH enters the room.

SARAH

Hey Jennifer. What are you making this time?

JENNIFER

Now I am working on Sarah’s Halloween costume.

SARAH

That’s a cool idea! Where did you get the idea from?

JENNIFER

My adoptive mom made the same costume for me when I was a kid. I asked them if they still had the costume but they couldn’t find it. But, they did send me the pattern for it.

SARAH

That is so cool! How are you going to make it more of a circle?

JENNIFER

Some newspaper or padding of some sort.

RACHEL enters the room.

RACHEL

Hi mom! How’s my costume coming?

(She sees her costume)

Wow! It looks so cool!

JENNIFER

Well that’s good! I wouldn’t have made you a different one.

SARAH

Ok Rachel, its time for bed.

RACHEL

Do I have to?

SARAH and JENNIFER

Yes you have to.

SARAH and RACHEL leave the room. JULIA comes walking in to the room.

JULIA

Hey mom, the band is having a Halloween party next week. Can I go?

JENNIFER

Sure! What time is it?

JULIA

It’s at school from 7 to midnight.

JENNIFER

Sounds like fun!

JULIA sees SARAH’S Halloween costume.

JULIA

That is one cool costume! I wish I had dressed as a pumpkin as a kid for Halloween.
