A Haiku Collection

by BridgitKiido

Disclaimer: The Haiku is a form of poetry that was created by some very creative Japanese people a long time ago. Yu-Gi-Oh GX is the intellectual property of Kazuki Takahashi. I’m just borrowing concepts from both of those. I claim no ownership of either – I’m doing it for the sheer sake of entertainment.

The intention of this piece is to write one haiku detailing something unique about each episode of Yu-Gi-Oh GX. Each separate chapter will chronicle one season and be sorted in chronological order. Therefore, this shall serve as the spoiler warning – the more haikus you read, the more likely it is that key points of the story will be spoiled.

Season 1: Spring

The Game King bears a
gift to his heir apparent:
Hane Kuriboh.

Red’s a nice color,
but somehow some people think
it’s inferior.

Battle on a boat –
to reveal peeking or not?
That is the question.

Shining wings glisten
as the angel puff descends
to serve its justice.

Mysterious dorm.
Many students disappeared.
One must wonder how.

These tricks may be false,
but the shadows are quite true.
Save the photograph.

Why not cast that spell?
Brother says he’s not ready.
But it is needed…

Judai fights Kaiser
in a battle of courage.
Emperors are strong.

Fathers must believe
in the talent of their sons.
Sake? Not for kids.

Battle, two on two.
Haven’t we seen them before?
Oh right… they’re those guys.

Cast the spell correct,
and true power may be yours.
Know the time, aim true.

Erase the writing
on the yellow walls with white.
Water douses flames.

Monkey brings monkey
to fight for nature’s freedom.
Do not want machines.

Occult summoning
turns to battle in shadow
between man and sprite.

What’s a fiancé?
Someone has a lot to learn
in terms of romance.

Giant and midget,
neither confident alone,
together strike fear.

Find the golden egg
and guarantee that you will
eat a decent meal.

Lacking confidence,
imitate the seasoned pro,
gain an upper hand.

No matter the power,
imitation cannot beat
the actual thing.

I’m sorry, young girl.
You are a few years too young
to attend this school.

Rumors even fly
to the members of the press
of the missing kids.

Fusion is no more,
but who says one needs it when
one can summon him?

Others may sleep, but
why should he as well, when he’s
having so much fun?

Yellow ball of light,
please do not stick your rear end
right before his face…

Now clothed in black robes,
armed dragons are summoned to claim
his place at the top.

Just due to defeat,
his brothers try to choke him.
An odd family…

Mysterious man
contacts over computer.
The topic? Unknown.

For his victory,
given half an amulet
to help him later.

Seven keys must be
protected from seven Stars.
The first is quite dark.

Unexpected truth –
Darkness is, in honesty,
her missing brother.

The second Star is
a vampire who delights in
sealing souls in dolls.

Painful decision:
win the fight and lose brother,
or lose and save him.

Two halves of one whole
stop the evil sorcery
of the vampire’s game.

He’s not quite that man,
but he sure fights with his style…
and his dragons three.

Underestimate
the power of zero points:
very big mistake.

Admit it, Daichi –
you think Pikeru is cute.
No need to feel shame.

Lost self-confidence
will follow him throughout all
the rest of his days.

With a submarine,
you think you can access the
demon cards? Yeah, right.

Detective Thunder
is quite good at solving crime.
Too bad nights are loud.

Wait one hundred years.
Then, fight as much as you want
with all of your strength.

Battle for memory
of a time before darkness
separates the two.

Photographs are nice,
but be sure that the subject
is a willing one.

Stolen handkerchief
may be a good luck charm, but
that still wasn’t nice.

Seventh Star appears
when seventh key is missing.
Two and two add to…

Alchemic battle
enjoys removing from play,
using that as strength.

Seventh star and key
were one and the same person
the entire time.

Infatuation
prodded by a reformed Star.
…This cannot end well.

Thunder and Kaiser
are fun titles, so why not
Blizzard Prince as well?

Philosopher’s Stone
provides miracles to save
the dying monsters.

He wishes to draw
and a position is there.
Just give him the job.

Judai once again
fights the Kaiser, but this time
not quite in his style.

Kaiser is perfect,
but that means he can’t improve.
Judai: limitless.
