Sylar scanned his half finished painting; obviously the guy on the right was himself. The Sylar in the picture appeared to be angry, he was shouting at the empty white space in front of him. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t finish what he had started.
His gaze flickered towards a full length mirror, which was leaning against the wall behind his painting. For a second he felt disorientated; he was certain the world he was looking into was a fake. Another painting, very similar to his own, rested behind him. Again, only half of it was completed, except with this one it was the opposite side. Instead of the tall, dark figure of himself a slightly shorter just as dark figure of Peter Petrelli was neatly painted on the left. The reflected Peter looked just as frustrated as his own figure, so Sylar found it safe to guess they were arguing. Even though he was concentrating on the mirror, out the corner of his eye he could still see his own work. Both ends of the painting were obscurely in his view and a strange feeling washed over him.
“Peter, how did you do that?” Somehow, Peter’s mind stopped planning his mission ahead long enough to form a few words that could barely be called an explanation.
“My power, I absorb…I’m a sponge.” If possible, the last part of his ‘explanation’ made his crack an even wider smile.
For the first time since he had completed it, Peter took a good look at his work, and for the first time noticed it was of himself. Standing on the grey concrete, all in black was a very clear portrayal of Peter. Whoever he was having a shouting match with, however, was decidedly unclear. No matter how much he tried the void would not fill, so Peter left, plus one more way of defending the world, slightly disappointed. Exactly forty-seven minutes after he left, Sylar arrived.
