Herms: this was originally posted in the DoumekiWatanuki community at Livejournal. I am now uploading it here to keep with all my other works. I hope you like it.

Disclaimer: I don’t own the characters, they are CLAMP’s I am simply borrowing them for some fun. I get nothing from this but reviews. It’s inspired by Just for Now a song from Imogean Heap, and she deserves the credit for some of the lines, they are imbedded quotes from her song.

The weather was growing colder and that meant that any possible time the students of the high school had was spent indoors. All the athletic activities had been called off for the last week before the winter break due to the sudden snow storm and that lead Watanuki Kimihiro and Doumeki Shizuka to find themselves fighting their way through the snow to return to Doumkei’s home after school. The sudden weather change from Autumn to Winter had prompted a plan in the Dimension Witch’s mind for “fun activities” in the snow.

The witch had auto invited herself to the shrine where Doumeki lived so that Watanuki could cook them all dinner and they could have a party to celebrate the arrival of Winter.

“It’s that time of year…” Watanuki mumbled to himself, as the stopped at a cross walk waiting for the light to turn green and permit them to continue. Sharp mismatched eyes slid to the side and gave Doumeki a piercing look. “Why am I stuck with you?” he growled. “Himawari-chan was invited, and I could have gotten to walk home with her, but no I’m stuck with you.”

“Kunoji had to go home.” Doumeki said simply, he to watching as the white little flutters fell to the ground around them.

“And I’m left alone with you, Yuuko and Mokona who will be bossing me around all night.” He moaned as the continued to walk. “Just what I need to kick off my winter break, to spend the first night of it serving all of you….”

They turned into the gates to find Yuuko already standing by a large Sakura tree, Mokona resting on her shoulder, a large basket sat peacefully by her feet as they waved the two over. “Let’s start our party!” Mokona cheered.

“Just for now….” Yuuko said in a tone so soft that the wind did not even carry it to the others at the gate.

With many grumbles and complaints about being treated like a slave Watanuki finished making the dinner for their small gathering. He kept shooting excited glances up to the doorway, because Mokona had mentioned that Yuuko had sent Himawari a letter and her reply was that she might be arriving late.

“Mokona wants to help!” it said bouncing around behind him.
“No”
“Neh neh why?” it asked still bouncing.
“Because you’re distracting now go back to Yuuko.” He ordered.
“But..”
“No but! GO!” Watanuki said his back to the stove as he cut up a tomato.
“But Watanuki!”

With that Watanuki picked up the small creature and escorted it to the room where he had left Doumeki and Yuuko drinking a bottle of Sake. It was a small room that opened out to the garden, a small fire burned in the center on a prepared square set up just for winter to keep the room warm.

“Keep him here with you.” Watanuki said in a stern voice as he dropped Mokona into Doumeki’s lap, who did not seemed startled or fazed that the creature had just been tossed at him.

“Watanuki, pour me another.” Yuuko said holding up the bottle with a lazy hand.

He stared, bi-colored eyes staring wide behind wire rim glasses. “I just got you one! You’re already done?” he frowned. “No more until we eat.” He said crossing long twiggy arms at his chest.

“Watanuki…” she complained in a whiny voice.

“I said no.” he took the bottle from her in a rather aggressive manner.

“I think something is burning…”she said looking away, a bored look in her red eyes.

Watanuki squeaked and ran out of the room, a clatter and shriek of worry could be heard coming from the kitchen.

“A toast.” Yuuko’s dark blood eyes seemed to dance with amusement as she held her Sake above her head. “It’s that time of year,” she said closing her eyes and her head bowed slightly. “We welcome the new season and bid fair well to the old.” Her smiled down at Mokona who sat at the table, its own Sake held over its head. “Lets leave all our hopelessnesses aside, and all the tears stop here.” She looked up at Watanuki, that look he had started to grow weary of on her thin features.

“Kampaii!” she grinned and took her first drink, Mokona following in her example. Large nervous eyes watched as they went through one bottle then another and another. Where were they getting so many bottles of alcohol. Watanuki couldn’t ever recall seeing that many bottles in the basket that Yuuko had brought along with her, but all the same every time he got sent off to get one and he retrieved what he assumed had been the last one another always replaced it.

It was around the time when he was getting their fourth bottle of Sake that Mokona began to giggle and bounce around the room, a red ting across its dark face.

“Can we settle down, PLEASE.” Watanuki growled at them as he sat entirely sober by Yuuko’s side, Doumeki on his other for he had been offered drinks but only took small sips of his first serving.

The witch too wore a red ting across her face and she beckoned Mokona to her side, which happily obliged and sat upon her shoulder.

Giggles and mysterious glances in Watanuki’s directions were exchanged between the small black creature and his creator; looks which made Watanuki extremely nervous.

“YAY!” the creature suddenly yelled giggling like a mad thing and bouncing off in some direction, making sounds as it went off into the darkness of the halls which suddenly was cut off.

“What is he going to do?” Watanuki asked his employer who gave him a catty grin and winked.

“Do you really want to know?” she asked in a would be ‘innocent’ tone; which just confirmed the bespectacled ones thoughts that it could not be anything good.

A few minutes passed, in which Watanuki was sent to retrieve yet another bottle, and Mokona had yet to return. He was just about to sit down again when Doumeki stood and made a gesture to follow. They went down the hall to a place where he had once seen to be the other teen’s bedroom.

“What are we doing all the way down here?” Watanuki asked in an accusing tone. “I’m not making you anything special for dinner or for your bento next time I make you one.” He huffed crossing his arms just for a reason to complain.

“Mm…” Doumeki said, just to show he heard Watanuki, not to mean anything at all.

“Don’t mm me, say something damnit.” He hissed like an angry cat, not realizing that the man had stopped walking now that they were in his bedroom.

“Watch it.” he growled again, bumping into the larger teens back, being completely ignored by the other who had reached off of a book shelf and picked up a thin package from the top if it.

“Here.” He said in a blank tone and put it in the growling boy’s hands who immediately stopped and stared.

“What…?” Watanuki blinked down at the wrapped package. “What’s this for?” he stared at it, waiting for it to do something strange. It was wrapped in simple brown paper, as if it had just been packaged like that at whatever shop it had originated from.

“Open it.” Doumeki said simply, and it prompted Watanuki’s long thin fingers to begin pealing at the bindings of the wrapping paper.

Out fell a book, it looked almost new and cared for, on the cover in pretty lettering it read Foods from the World. Carefully he opened the front cover and saw that the book was over fifty years old, but it looked practically new.

“Was this Haruka-san’s?” Watanuki asked looking up at the taller teenager, who nodded.

“I-I can’t have it.” He squeaked trying to hand the book back, but found that he couldn’t. Doumeki’s gaze on him had scarcely flickered since he had handed over the present. It was too direct and penetrating that he couldn’t look away to push the object back into the other’s hands.

For a moment Watanuki thought he was seeing things, because he could have sworn something small and black had sped into the room, but the large form of Doumeki leaning in closer in what felt like slow motion was more attention grabbing.

“W-what..” he couldn’t talk, he found himself with Doumeki’s lips pressed gently against his.

What the hell? His mind kept screaming at him. Get him off! Get him off! Push him off! Get me out of here!

He did it without meaning to, falling victim to the feeling, the warmth of the situation. The sweet sensation of someone being so warm and close was pulling him in. Even his internal monologue was losing the will to fight as all he managed to think was bite…tongue… before he entirely gave in and kissed back.

He thought he might have dropped the book as his hands were now pressed gently against the other’s strong chest. Their lips parted a little to deepen the clumsy first kiss that was filled with curiosity.

Behind them Yuuko was leaning against the door-frame. Her arms crossed, the dropped cooking book held safely in her long hands, and a cunning smile on her lips. Above them Mokona stood on the top of the bookshelf where Doumeki’s present had been hidden with a piece of mistletoe in it’s little hands, giggling silently where it sway watching the cute moment.

Just before it was over, because she had seen this coming and had gone through so much hard work to make certain that this happened, she pulled out a disposable camera from her dress pocket and snapped a quick picture, then ran with Mokona on her head.

Watanuki’s eyes shot open at that and he turned to where the clicking sound had come from. Seeing nothing his gaze turned back up to the one he had been kissing and he stared.

“Get off!” he squeaked trying to jump away, but the hand on his arm and the one behind his back was keeping him there.

“I said let go!” he sounded slightly desperate, and his voice was cracking.

“No.”

Watanuki looked up with large eyes, catching the smaller dark ones, and shook his head, knowing he was defeated, because the looking Doumeki continued to give him was too certain and piercing for him to deny that it was his imagination. That it had all been Doumeki’s fault, because even the tall normally stoic teen seemed a bit confused and eager for answers. The look in his eyes said it all.

He sighed and patted Doumeki’s arm, gently pulling away this time, to give them a little more space. It was then that Watanuki truly realized that the book was missing.

“Yuuko-san!” he yelled walking down the hall to find the woman giggling along with Mokona, the book in question sitting on the edge of the table.

“How did you know?” She giggled snapping a picture of herself and Mokona giving a Victory sign to the camera and winking at it.
