"Happy Birthday Andrew!" Troy said from behind the video camera as he zoomed in on the one-year old's face.
Andrew furrowed his eyebrows as he inspected his chocolate cake.
You could hear Troy's laugh from behind the camera.
With a jerky movement, the camera was now on three-year old Faith.
“Hi Faithers!" Troy said happily, zooming in on her face now.
“Daddy, no more pic-chures." She said tiredly, poking her fork into the cake.
"Oh, come on Faith! Don't be like that." Troy said with a laugh.
"Troy, if she doesn't want to be filmed, leave the poor girl alone!" Sharpay exclaimed.
Troy jerked the camera so it was now on Sharpay, who was standing in between two highchairs with 3 spoons in her hand.
“Thank you Sharpay." Troy said dully.
Sharpay shrugged, then continued putting small spoonfuls of cake on the spoons and then proceeded with putting them into her children's mouths.
Troy used a sweeping motion and went down the line of chairs down the table.
As he did he said each name of the guest to the camera.
“The Danforth family." Troy said before scanning the faces of the guests, "Chad, Taylor, Jordan and Maverick"
Then, Troy moved to the next family. "The Baylor's." He announced, "Zeke, Colette, Ben, Greg, Sharpay, and Paisley."
"Daddy! My camera!" Troy heard Destiny exclaim from beside him.
Troy turned the camera onto the bubbly two year old.
"Do you want a turn on the camera Desi?" He asked, using her nickname.
Destiny nodded before shoveling a piece of cake into her mouth.
Troy watched her through the camera and laughed.
"Troy? Can you please put the video camera down and eat your cake?" Gabriella asked from off screen.
Troy whipped around and the camera focused on the very pregnant Gabriella.
"And who do we have here?" Troy asked quizzically.
Gabriella laughed and rolled her eyes. "Troy..."
"No, seriously, introduce yourself!" Troy pleaded.
Gabriella sighed, "Well, I'm Gabriella Bolton."
Troy zoomed in on her stomach, “And who's this?" He asked playfully.
Gabriella placed her hands atop of her eight month pregnant belly, "This is Cody Nicholas." She said proudly.
"And when is he due?" Troy asked again.
"Troy..." Gabriella exasperatedly said.
“DADDY! MY CAMERA!" Destiny yelled again impatiently hitting the table.
Troy tore away from Gabriella and looked back at Destiny, "Someone's an attention hog..."
"Destiny, you may not hit the table." Gabriella scolded as she walked to the table and quickly cleaned up the mess that had just been made.
Destiny's bottom lip began to quiver, and she was crying, her eyes becoming red and puffy.
Gabriella sighed as she walked away from the table.
Andrew, seeing his sister in distress, also began to cry.
Gabriella soon reappeared from the kitchen.
"Good job Gabriella." Troy said sarcastically as he caught her wide-eyed reaction.
The children continued to cry, as Troy stood their dumbly holding the video camera and Gabriella tried to comfort Andrew.
Troy watched as Faith got off her chair and toddled over to where Destiny was sitting.
"No, Faith don't!" Gabriella tried to stop her, but alas, it was too late.
Faith had shoved the chocolate cake onto her younger sister's face.
Gabriella slapped her forehead and glanced at Troy.
After a brief moment of shock, Destiny reassumed her crying and picked up a handful of her own cake and shoved it into Faith's face, causing Faith to cry.
Troy couldn't help but laugh.
"Troy! Do not encourage this!" Gabriella exclaimed, picking up Andrew and trying her best to quickly get to her daughters.
"I'm sorry! What am I supposed to do? I'm filming..."
"Oh Troy?" Gabriella asked as she walked up to the camera, with her free hand behind her back.
Troy, who was still watching the girls, didn't notice until Gabriella's face was in perfect view of the camera.
“What?" Troy asked as Gabriella began to grin.
Suddenly the picture went black as the room erupted into laughter.
"My Camera!" Troy exclaimed
“Destiny! Get out of the bathroom! I need to brush my teeth!" fourteen-year old Andrew pounded on the bathroom door.
"Use the other bathroom!" Destiny yelled over the sound of a blow dryer.
Andrew sighed, "Because Faith's in that one!" He said angrily.
Suddenly, the door burst open, steam wandering into the hallway.
Andrew began choking, "What the heck did you do in there?"
Destiny rolled her eyes and tossed her shoulder length dark brown hair, "Just brush your stinking teeth."
Andrew rolled his eyes as he walked into the bathroom.
Destiny turned to go back into her bedroom; just as she did she was nearly run over by her other brother.
"Holy crap! Cody slow down!" Destiny said, catching her breath.
"Can't. Sorry." He replied hotly.
Destiny rolled her eyes as she went into her room and slammed the door.
"Troy, you need to get up." Gabriella said sweetly as she came out of her closet, dressed in a knee length black and white floral print dress.
Troy looked up at her, "Why?" He asked, trying to hide his grin.
Gabriella walked over to her vanity and sat down on the small bench, "Because, we have to go to your parents house for their anniversary party." She replied.
Troy walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her chest.
"I love you." He whispered into her ear.
Even after nearly sixteen years of marriage, his words still gave Gabriella chills.
"I love you too." She said.
Troy gently placed a kiss on her cheek before releasing her from his grip and proceeding into the bathroom.
Gabriella sighed as she looked back to herself in the mirror and began to apply her makeup.
"Mom?"
Gabriella heard Faith from down the hall.
"In the bedroom." Gabriella said.
"Mom?" Faith asked again.
"I'm in the bedroom!" Gabriella answered, a little louder.
"MOM!" Faith shouted coming closer to the bedroom door.
"I SAID I'M IN THE-"
"Oh, there you are." Faith said simply, walking through the door.
Gabriella laughed softly, "What's the matter?"
Faith dramatically sighed as she threw herself onto her parents’ bed, her long curly hair cascading around her face.
Gabriella finished applying her mascara.
"Faith, what's the matter?" She asked again, turning herself around.
Faith propped herself up with her elbow.
"It's just...I can't believe school's tomorrow."
Gabriella nodded, "The summer did seem to fly by..."
"Gabriella where's that black shirt...with the buttons?" Troy asked coming out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his waist.
"Uh...in your third drawer?" Gabriella answered.
"Oh. Right...thanks."
Faith rolled her eyes at how immature her father was.
Gabriella allowed her eyes to linger a bit too long as Troy walked back into the bathroom with his clothes.
Gabriella smiled to herself, and then felt Faith's eyes on her.
"What?" Gabriella asked
Faith shook her head, "It's nothing...I'm going to go finish putting my makeup on..."
Gabriella shrugged, "Ok sweetie. Remember, we only have thirty more minutes..." and then she turned back to her vanity.
Faith walked back to her room, up the stairs, the second door on the left.
She shut the door behind her and turned to her window, she easily opened the curtains, allowing the bright Albuquerque sun shine in.
“This is the potential breakup song…” She began singing, as she usually did in her lonesome.
Aly and A.j. may not be the hippest band of her time, but they were still cool.
Faith smiled to herself as she danced to her own vanity and started applying her own makeup, occasionally using her blush brush as a microphone.
Suddenly, her door burst open.
"Faith! I need to borrow some shoes." Destiny exclaimed going straight to her older sister's closet.
Faith instantly stopped singing, "Do you not know how to knock?"
Destiny ignored Faith's comment and went digging through the closet, "Why are you listening to this? It's so...old."
Faith rolled her eyes, "Just...take the shoes...and leave."
Destiny stood, with a pair of red flats, "Ok...fine...I'm outtie."
Faith rolled her eyes as Destiny left and slammed the door.
"Hey, Destiny?" Cody asked quietly, his hands resting behind his back, as Destiny tried to go back to her own room.
"What?"
"Are you hot?" Cody asked, a sly smiled sneaking onto his face.
Destiny thought to herself, " Um...no?"
Without warning Cody revealed what he was hiding, a very large squirt gun.
"Don't even think-"
Cody pulled it up and began pumping the gun, drenching his sister from head to toe.
"CODY YOU ARE SO DEAD!"
Cody, in fear of his life, tore down the hall and threw himself into a nearby closet.
"CODY! GET OUT HERE RIGHT NOW!" Destiny exclaimed as she tried to pull open the door.
"Destiny? What are you doing?" Troy asked, coming around the corner, dressed in his attire for the day, "And, why are you all wet?"
Destiny pursed her lips together.
"ARGH!" was her only response before storming back up the stairs, followed shortly by another ear-splitting slam.
Troy shuddered at the noise, and then slowly opened the closet door.
Cody's eyes were wide with fear, "Uh...hey dad? Great weather don't you think? Bye." Cody quickly stood up and swiftly ran back up the stairs.
Troy waited for him to leave, then smiled as he shook his head, "Oh...the wonderful joys of parenthood."
“Gabriella?" Troy said in a singsong voice from behind the camera.
The camera focused on Gabriella, sleeping peacefully on their bed, once again pregnant.
"Oh Gabriella?" Troy sang again, this time, Gabriella stirred.
"What do you want Bolton." She replied coldly, not opening her eyes.
Troy softly laughed, "Are you hungry?"
Gabriella slowly opened one eye, "No." She snapped.
Troy sat down on the bed, causing the view of the camera to go to the ceiling, then quickly focusing back on Gabriella's face.
" How are you feeling?" He asked, trying to keep her on camera.
Gabriella opened her other eye and scowled, "Pregnant."
Troy laughed again as Gabriella's eyes returned to their former closed position.
Troy pulled the camera around so his own face was visible “I tried!" He said quietly.
The screen faded to black.
"Grandma, tell us the story about how mom and dad-"
"Uh, let's talk about something else." Troy quickly interrupted his daughter.
The guests, which included the Danforth's and the Baylor's, all started laughing.
"The lunch was wonderful, thank you Anna!" Gabriella said politely to her mother-in-law.
"Anytime, you know I love to cook!" Anna said happily.
"So, who's ready for school tomorrow?" Jack asked giddily
A serious of groans and eye rolling was seen and heard.
"No offense Mr. Bolton sir, but like...school sucks." Sixteen year old Paisley said.
"How can you say that?" Her older sister Colette put in, "This will be your junior year! You're almost done with high school."
"You're just saying that because you're off to college now..."
Colette thought for moment.
"Yeah, I guess I am."
"Well, I'm excited for the basketball." Andrew said proudly.
"If you'll make the team..." Destiny said, just to irritate him
"Are you kidding?" Jordan Danforth, the eldest of the Danforth boys, questioned, "Drew has the Bolton genes. He’s pure talent! He'd make the team any day."
"You know, this year, I want to make a lead again, in the musical..." Destiny said, pointing out a goal.
"Oh, I could totally get you in." Greg Baylor said, "I’m tight with the theatre staff..."
Destiny rolled her eyes, "Oh, I will be forever grateful Greg..." She mocked.
"Well, this year, Maverick and I are so gonna be on the A team!" Cody exclaimed, " Oh yes, it's good to be in eighth grade..."
Through the conversation Faith just forked at her food.
"So, who wants to play some ball!?" Chad exclaimed, coming through the door with a basketball.
Chad picked up his youngest son, four year old Caleb, and quickly dodged back outside.
All the boys immediately dropped their eating utensils and ran after the bushy haired man.
Troy looked at Gabriella pleadingly, who nodded, and then Troy quickly stood and left as well.
"So, Colette, what is the musical going to be anyways?" Destiny asked as the room cleared.
"Um...I'm not entirely sure...oh, but I think I have it on an email...come on, let's go check!" Colette offered as she and Destiny stood to leave.
Anna smiled as she and Jack began to tidy up the meal remnants, coming back and forth between the kitchen and dinning room.
Ultimately leaving the dining room empty, the only ones left were Sharpay, Taylor, Gabriella, Faith, and Paisley.
"So, Faith, are you looking forward to school?" Taylor asked, just wanting a conversation to develop.
Faith shook her head, "Not really..."
"Why not?"
The young girl shrugged, “There’s always so much pressure to do well and follow the rules and stuff..."
Gabriella looked at her distraught daughter, she was about to say something, but Paisley interrupted.
"Whatever, you're just being stubborn because you don't want to tutor Carson." She said with a grin.
Faith shot her friend a dirty look, "Not really, but thank you for bringing that up."
"Who's Carson?" Sharpay asked, looking from her daughter back to Faith.
"Dark hair, hazel eyes, totally hot." Paisley told her mom.
Faith rolled her eyes, "Ok, not to mention the most popular man whore of the school!" She said angrily.
"I didn't even know you were going to tutor people..." Gabriella said.
"Oh, I just found out this morning...they sent me an email and stuff." Faith re-assured her mom.
"Look at them out there!" Taylor mused.
The other women looked out the window at their husbands playing basketball.
"That's their sport." Gabriella giggled as she watched Troy score a three pointer, then join Chad in a happy dance.
Faith sighed, "I can't believe summer's over..." She said sadly as she looked out the window.
Paisley looked sadly at her best friend, "Just think, this time next year, we'll be seniors!"
Faith looked at her and smiled, "That's true isn't it."
"MOM!" Cody exclaimed running into the room.
"What's the matter?" Gabriella asked, worried.
"Dad's cheating!" He said exasperatedly.
The other wives laughed as they stood to go see what the problem was.
Gabriella let out a sigh, as she got up and quickly walked to the door, "TROY BOLTON!"
Troy stopped dribbling the ball and looked at her, "What?"
"Play fair." She said sternly.
"I was!" Troy said playfully.
"The kids are just mad because Zeke, Chad, Drew and I are beating them." Troy said as he grinned over at the losing team.
"You guys are SO immature." Destiny said, stepping outside.
"You should really be the one to talk..." Greg said as he rolled his eyes.
Destiny's face morphed into a glare. She angrily walked over to the court.
"Dad, ball." She said gesturing for the ball.
Troy sighed as he threw her the ball.
Destiny walked center court, shot Greg another glare, then easily shot the basketball, it gracefully went through the net.
"Swish." She said quietly.
Destiny turned and looked at Greg, who was in shock that a girl, that anyone, could actually do that.
Destiny shot him a smirk then happily bounced back to the house.
Once she was inside, everyone started laughing.
"Dude! She's really good!" Jordan said to Troy, "Do you think she'd join the team?"
Troy shook his head, "No...She won't do it...I've tried!"
"Way to go Greg..." Drew said sarcastically.
Greg snapped out of his shock, "I didn't know she could play!"
"She's my sister, of course she can play." Drew told him.
"Yeah...thanks."
Troy, Gabriella and the kids were now back at their own house.
The kids were in their rooms, getting ready for bed, while Troy was lying down on the couch, watching TV, and Gabriella was in the kitchen.
"Hey, Gabby!" Troy said from his position on the couch.
Gabriella appeared from behind the corner, "What?"
"Hurry! Come here!" Troy said, not taking his eyes off the TV.
Gabriella slowly walked over, looking at the TV, "What is it?" She asked.
Troy looked at her and smiled, then reached out and pulled her on top of him.
This caught Gabriella by surprise; she gave a little yelp as she landed on Troy's chest.
Troy wrapped his arms around her back and looked into her dark brown eyes; he lifted himself up a little, and then pressed his lips onto hers.
Gabriella smiled against his lips, then playfully pulled back, "What did you want?" She asked innocently.
"You." He replied slyly.
Gabriella giggled as she laid her head down on his chest.
Troy sighed and began to lovingly run his hands up and down Gabriella's back. Gabriella rested her hands on Troy's shoulders.
Up on the top of the stairs, looking down into the living room, was Destiny Bolton.
She had seen her parents countless times show their love for each other.
Destiny sighed and laid her head against the banister.
"Hey, what are you doing?" Faith asked quietly as she stepped out of the bathroom, shower fresh.
Destiny nodded to their parents who were both on the edge of falling asleep.
Faith smiled, "Its gross right...but I love knowing that they still love each other." Faith confessed.
"I want that." Destiny said sadly.
Faith sat down next to her sister, "Me too."
"Guys just don't get it." Destiny said, "Girls don't want to be told that they're sexy...we want to be loved..."
"Did someone text you again?" Faith asked.
Destiny nodded, "Yeah...it's like the tenth time this week...I didn't even reply."
Faith nodded.
"Well, I'm going to go to bed...yay for school." Faith said sarcastically as she stood, "Are you coming?"
Destiny looked back at her parents, nestled together on the couch, she nodded, "Yeah, I'm coming."
