Author’s Note: I would like to dedicate this oneshot to poppyfields13, who has requested that I write her a Jartha fic. Just because I wrote it doesn’t mean that I support the pairing. P Lol, Read and Review anyways. Thanks! PEACE!

2nd Person

Jason scowled as the ball rolled to his feet. “What’s this for,” he asked, more than slightly annoyed.

“For basketball, duh!” he said, grinning wildly into the grim face of his friend. Troy was WAY too quirky… Maybe he was getting it from dating Ryan. Eh. Who cared? Jason picked up the ball non-chalantly, lifting it up into the air and then flicking his wrist so that it rolled easily off his fingers…

A perfect swish resounded through the air.

Jason cocked his head and gave Troy an ‘Am I done yet?’ look, causing Troy to chuckle darkly. Apparently not… Troy picked up the ball from where it lay under the hoop, and threw it at Jason full force…

He just sidestepped, and the ball bounced a few times before rolling away, across the court. Troy gave a playful scowl, and then ran to go get it. Jason grumbled quietly from where he stood… He had come here to be ALONE. He had come her to think about his life, and all the things that seemed to be going wrong in it.

He had just broken up with Kelsi, AGAIN, and now he was single… and crushing. And boy, was he crushing badly. Ironically, it was on one of her best friends. Coincidentally, that friend happened to be Martha Cox. She was one of the nicest people that he had ever met in his entire life, and she always seemed to treat him nicer than she treated everybody else, although she was a constantly pleasant person to EVERYONE. Although, nobody liked her beyond a friend, and she actually seemed to be absolutely fine with that too. She was content to be alone…

But little did Jason know that she was crushing on somebody.

And want to guess who that person was?

It just so happened to be Kelsi’s ex-boyfriend, Jason Cross. At the moment that he was brooding in the gym, Martha was brooding in Scholastic Decathlon Practice. “Alright, so if you combine krypton and fluoride to form Krypton Diflouride, then how much energy is taken and placed into each of the chemical bonds?” Taylor asked from the front of the room, a complex formula placed up on the board. “Martha?” she inquired, cocking her head to the side toward her friend, who was staring into space with a sad look on her face. “Martha?” she said again, walking over to her friend, waving a hand in front of her face, and placing another on the girl’s back. The girl had lost a lot of weight over the summer, in a desperate attempt to impress the boy that she was in love with, but he seemed to be just as friendly to her now as he had been before the summer began.

“Humm?” Martha said as she seemed to wake up from her daze, looking up into the concerned eyes of her friend. “Oh, alright… umm… carry the 4,” Martha began muttering to herself as she looked at the formula on the board, calculating in her head. Taylor watched with the concerned look still etched onto her features. Martha had continually been in this state, not listening to anything, and being a melancholy person… very different compared to the perky person she had been before. “14000 calories per bond, and 42000 calories total?” Martha asked hopefully, looking up at Taylor with pleading eyes. Taylor let out a quiet sigh.

“You need rest,” she announced, diverting the question easily, and quite bluntly. Leading Martha to the door, she bid adieu to her friend for the day, telling her to get lots of sleep.

But Martha knew that she wouldn’t be able to get sleep… she was just too hung up on Jason. She couldn’t get him out of her head. No matter how many mental barriers she put up in desperate attempts to block him out, he kept blasting through them like a wrecking ball. He destroyed all coherent thoughts, and she desperately attempting to string together the right commands to force her feet to walk… Instead, she just collapsed to a sobbing heap where she was, leaning against the wall for support…

She closed her eyes, and Jason’s face appeared from nowhere, smiling at her like some sort of god… and then she opened her eyes…

And Jason was still there! She rubbed her eyes again, but there he stood, looking down at her with a concerned look plastered onto his features. “Martha?” he asked, extending a hand down to her. She gladly accepted, relishing the feel of his skin against her own. He pulled her up, and she wiped away what remained of her tears, attempting to straighten herself out and pretending that he didn’t even notice that she was crying.

Too late. “Are you okay?” he asked, not letting go of her hand as he asked the question, but instead squeezing it lightly. She couldn’t help but feel her heart skip a beat, and all the butterflies in her stomach escape into the rest of her body, causing every limb to feel as though it fell asleep.

“Umm… yeah, I guess, I was just… thinking,” she said, dodging his blatant question by stringing together half-truths. “What are you doing wandering the halls?” she asked, trying to switch the topic away from her, and to find out, truthfully, why he was out and about East High.

“The same reason as you, I was thinking… what were you thinking about that made you cry?” he asked the dreaded question, and Martha’s heart sank in her chest, her eyes dropping downward. She was a horrible liar. She knew that she should tell him how she felt, she knew that she should get all these feelings out, but she couldn’t help but bottle them up.

And then Jason squeezed her hand again.

“About how much I love you,” she blurted out, as though by squeezing her hand he had triggered her to tell the truth. Her eyes went wide, and a hand shot up to her mouth, as though that would take back the words that she had just said.

Jason’s eyes widened as well, and his mouth opened slightly. A million thoughts ran through his head, but one of them popped out blatantly clear, in bright, flashing lights.

‘KISS HER.’

And so he did, moving forward slightly, and capturing her mouth with his own. She was too shocked to do anything but follow her instincts, which told her to close her eyes and lean forward. Jason smiled into the kiss, and then broke it reluctantly, pressing their foreheads together and staring into Martha’s eyes.

“Me too,” he whispered and Martha let a heartfelt smile grace her lips.

Jason leaned forward again, and Martha happily reciprocated the kiss.

Then Kelsi walked around the bend.

Author’s Note: Lol, there you go poppyfields, thought that last little tidbit was funny… I know that it’s short and horribly written, but it was the best I could do with such an… unfamiliar pairing. Sorry… can’t wait to read your Jason slash fic! Lol, thanks so much! READ AND REVIEW PLEASE! THANKS! PEACE!!!

Your loving author,
