Well this is my first story ever so it's not going to be that good like other story's out there. Even though I'm a beginner do not go easy on me if you're going to review. And I know my grammar sucks, but I really hope that at least somebody tries to help me improve with my horrible writing. Ok... now that I said what I needed to say...Let the story begin!

And the time period this starts in is the Bakumatsu era err.. except for the first few paragraphs. And let's pretend that Kaoru is only two years younger than Kenshin too.'

Disclaimer:I do not own Rurouni Kenshin in any way possible,so don't sue me because right now,I'm veeeeeeery broke. The only thing I own is the OCs' appearing in this story and the plot. And for those that don't like OC's,don't worry, she and he ain't staying forever. Even though he is going to have a part bigger than my other OC.

Hidden Past

Chapter 1

Moonlight covered the expanse of the Kamiya Dojo, it's welcoming silence soothing. All of the inhabitants of this household were frolicking in the world of sleep, except for one named Kamiya Kaoru.

Instead of being blissfully asleep, she was leaning against a wood post near her room, enjoying the calm that engulfed her being. Kaoru was dressed with a simple sleeping yukata, her hair dripping like waves down her back, unbound from it's normal perch.

She sat comfortably in the space she had for herself and looked at the moon in wonder, her eyes glazing over in thought.

'I wonder if mother and father are watching over me.' She sighed and smiled gently.

But another thought came into her mind, this particular one was always in her head when she thought of her parents.

'Why can't I remember their faces or something from them?' This wouldn't normally be strange because if you didn't see your family for so many years, of course you would forget some things, but Kaoru couldn't even remember their voices, faces, names, ANYTHING.

It always caused sharp pain in her chest. So much that she could do nothing but let the tears run rampant across her cheeks.

But, fortunately or unfortunately, she was about to learn of things that had never even crossed her mind.

Slowly but surely, she started feeling a little pain in the back of her mind, “What the...-” Kaoru tried to hurry to one of the rooms of her friends but, she didn't even make it past her own.

In the morning

Kenshin was the first to awake that morning, dressed in his usual magenta gi and hakama and headed over to make breakfast for his little adoptive family the he grew to cherish beyond compare.

“I wonder what I could make for Kaoru-dono and Yahiko today, de gozaru(sp?).” He spoke to himself in a quiet tone of voice. He looked up to the sky when he went outside on the porch. 'It's going to be a beautiful day today.'

That notion was cruelly smashed when his vision slided to the side, locking on a target far of in the corner.

There Kaoru laid sprawled on the ground like a rag doll. His eyes widened in terror as he looked at her.

“KAORU!”

It was dead at night when bustling soldiers ran around their temporary camp fulfilling the orders given to them. Some inspecting the perimeter for any suspicious movement. Others preparing the food for everybody present. It was peaceful to say the least...for now that is.

Not even moments after, without warning blood went spraying into the air and bodies started littering the ground. One by one they all fell to the floor, they didn't even had the chance to see the culprit, seeming that the one doing this was moving at an unthinkable speed.

The blood glided through the air landing in every place within it's grasp, but magically, none landed on the mysterious figure causing all this damage. Whilst this was happening, not a single scream escaped through the darkness...even if they could nobody would have heard them anyway.

Finally the carnage had ended, but what was left was not a pleasant site. Corpses strewn across the field almost never ending, blood in every corner, not a splash of green anywhere. Some of the unlucky were deformed beyond recognition, sliced in half, decapitated, diced in pieces and any other form of grotesque killing was displayed here in this now life-deprived land.

Nothing living could be found in this supposed 'battlefield',but I doubt it could be called even that, because the poor souls did not even have time to unsheathe their weapons, so basically it was a one-sided battle. Everything was destroyed, nothing could be salvaged by judging from the state the camp was in.

The only thing standing alive was the causer of this 'little' event.

“...Ha...ha...ha...damn!, I didn't think this would have tired me so much in so little time.”she calmly spoke out while breathing a bit harder than normal.

Her sword glistening in the moonlight, dripping off a scarlet substance shone brightly, and with a swift flick of her wrist all the blood went flying of the blade, leaving it without a stain. And with gracefulness fitting of a skilled swordsman she silently sheathed her katana. Her features were delicate, soft creamy skin, small perfect lips, little button nose, and her most catching feature, her eyes, they were an ice-chilling pair of doors that didn't seem to trust anybody to enter them. Still, they could be wrong.

Their color was a silvery-red. Her hair was long, about to mid back, and it's color was a medium brown, it was held up by a stunning long ribbon, the color of it consisted of pure white base with bundles of black cherry blossoms in the edges.

The kimono adorning her figure was simple, it was an inch above her knees(for better mobility),it also came with short sleeves. It's color was the purest black available, it looked like it could suck the light out of everything, her obi was exactly like her ribbon, white and black cherry blossoms, only difference is the obi is completely covered in them.

While walking away from the now deserted land, you could hear no footsteps, actually, you could not hear even the slightest noisein where she was, no crickets, no rustling leaves and no wind brewing.

As she stepped into the surrounding foliage, making her way through was no problem. And even though it was no problem going through it, she deliberately took a slow pace so as to not arrive early to meet the most 'gentlemanly' 'greatest' person that hired her.

She was ordered to annihilate that camp for the specific reason that it was only from the wannabe- or soon to be- Meiji government(1), and being the illegal contra bander of fatal guns to various places in Japan, he had a reason to be afraid of them.

You may be asking why he was afraid of them, well, it's because the 'government' was dispatching assassin's to various places in his area of trading, and they were eliminating ton's of his friends' businesses, and some of his too.

He had been lucky to hear that she had been spotted in the nearby area, if it wasn't for her, he would have been royally F-U-C-K-E-D, and that he was offering a pretty large sum of yen didn't have anything to do with it, really, it was all done for the cause of helping that poor, poor man out of such a pickle...you can probably see the sarcasm dripping of every word.

At the moment she stepped out of her stupor, she spotted a little blob of yellow mixed with red. Getting tensed as if waiting for an attack she cautiously made her way to the object in question. After getting in a considerable distance of it she was surprised to find a tiny child about the age of 5-6, at that revelation she tensed even more if that was possible.

The reason why she is so hesitant to approach the girl, is...well... it's because one time before she was in a similar situation like this one. She found a child in the same way, and, it turned out that it was a bomb, a trap that her supposed comrades did. The moment her hand had touched the girls body, she realized it was a well crafted puppet, and in the instance she figured it out, it was still too late. It exploded head on, thankfully, it was a weak bomb, so she didn't suffer much injuries, and that is if you don't count the blow too her pride.

And because of that certain event, she didn't trust any type of object in her path anymore. After she slided a few paces back, she took a small rock, aimed it at the girl and watched as it hit. She blinked her eyes rapidly two times, seeing that the child didn't explode or do any other thing in the same train of thought. For safety precautions, she did not immediately go out into where the girl was just yet.

Satisfied that she wasn't going to explode, she walked towards her and first checked her pulse. Few seconds after that she found it but barely.

Deciding to help for once, she hoisted her up and ran full speed the rest of the way to the mansion. After a few minutes of running, she reached her destination, she quietly opened the doors and scurried through some corridors' and appeared on the infirmary wing.

“Mitsuko. Come here.”She ordered, out of all the nurses, she was the only one she tolerated enough to have in the same room as her.

Mitsuko came bolting out of one of the many rooms in the infirmary. She wore a simple nurse outfit, and she had shoulder length black hair and coal black eyes.

“What is it? Are you hurt? Or-”she was cut off when the assassin carrying the girl said “If you haven't noticed, I have an unconscious child with me that would like to live, thank you very much.”she finished with an cold tone.

“O-of c-course, I am ve-very so-sorry ma'am” the nurse was shaking like a leaf almost petrified of the killer intent that she was exuding, but she managed to direct the killer to a nearby bed. Mitsuko hurriedly took the girls vital signs and determined what she was going to use. Turning back her attention to the hitokiri her master hired she spoke.

“I will take care of it for now ma'am, you can go back and report to Minami-sama while I treat the girls wounds, you have nothing to worry about.”Mitsuko change her attention from her to the child and quickly went to work on her.

When she left the infirmary, she was very tempted to ask for directions, considering that this was a bloody damn labyrinth that was full of goddamn pictures of the goddamn man she didn't want to freaking see.

'Let's see... I already passed the 'Minami-sama room of Wonder' and turned left on the overly large statue of him in the living room...damn rich bastards.'She almost growled out that last thought but held it in the most she could.

After walking for who knows how long, she finally made it to the council room. 'Okay...now,let's get this over with!' Opening the door without hesitation she started to speak, well tried to...because at the exact moment she opened her mouth, she almost hurled the contents of her stomach on the floor. She reacted in such a way for the simple reason that she had seen the most repulsive thing ever since her first kill.

And the thing she saw was her but ugly employer screwing some whores from the corner. Basically she wished she had a memory erasing tool right about now.

“T-Ta-Takeru-sama w-what a-are y-yo-you doing he-here so ear-early.”he stuttered weakly while trying to keep what dignity he had left by zipping up his pants. His 'special guests' left in a hurry, as if a demon was on there heels. After they left he turned around shakily and regained a little of his composure.

And now finally knowing our little assassins name we continue. Masking her face of any disgust Takeru stared strait at him with emotionless piercing eyes, and speaking with a velvet voice she said. “Minami, I came here to pick up my well deserved money. So where is the 8,000,000 yen you promised.”Minami stood shaking uncontrollably, she was the only one he knew that could actually turn a question into a statement and say it in such a terrifying way too.

Scurrying to his desk he started to rummage through it for the aforementioned money, after a few minutes he came up and made his way over to Takeru. Coming with a bag full to the brim, he handed it to her. Taking the bag and turning around she calmly walked to the exit, but when her hand touched the doorknob, she suddenly jumped back with such speed it would almost be considered impossible.

And in the split second she did that, the door exploded inward in pieces, then from the smoke came mercenaries and thugs flooding in from the outside. They all surrounded her, not even letting a single space free.

“It looks like you were prepared for this weren't you Minami. Keh...I'm not surprised, I knew that a person such as you wouldn't let me take a step out of here with this money in my hand's. Actually, I was expecting this kind of treachery, now if you would have let me go, then, I would have been slightly surprised.”

Unsheathing her sword she stood there motionless, scanning her sides, she, as if reaching a conclusion, disappeared. Locking on her first victim she brought her katana upon him, as if slicing through water, she cut him in half without mercy. Proceeding to do the same stunt to all that were there in different places of the human anatomy, she was in less than 2 minutes almost finished killing them. Takeru was ashamed of having to dirty her blade with they're blood, these fools weren't even worthy of holding a katana!

“I was expecting more of a challenge when I saw they're number, but now I know they are only fools looking for money”.

Deciding to have mercy on the last that were standing she thought of what to do with them.'Hmm...I wonder if that will work...naah, that won't work.' Then an idea invaded her mind instantly, smiling devilishly she slowly changed her attention to them and made them look into her paralyzing silverish-rubies. Making her way to them extra slow for added effect, she in a lightning move slashed her blade at them and it's tip landed on the forehead of the one in the front, a little drop of blood made itself known on his forehead, when that happened his eyes rolled to the back of his head and the only thing you heard after her little stunt were ten consecutive thumps on the floor.

She whistled and said “Daaamn,I am good!”

After the entertaining display, she newly focused her attention on her ex-employer. Minami laid against the wall cowering, approaching him, she had the distasteful knowledge that he had pissed himself in fear.

“You really take home the medal of being the most repulsive man in this place don't you?”

Raising her katana, she swung it down at Minami with unimaginable force, her blade cut through him like butter, slicing flesh, bones and organs all in one sickening action. Watching as the fool's life ended she sighed.

Wiping her blade clean of any evidence, she continued her earlier path to the doorway, but not without her pay first. Then a sudden thought penetrated her mind.

'The girl!, I forgot about the girl! What am I going to do about her?...Oh...wait a minute. She ain't my responsibility. What was I thinking.'

Smirking she made her way through the mansion to reach the illusive front door while getting lost a few times too.

'Stupid rich bastards. Why the hell do they have to make such big places that are easy to get lost in.'

Even though she portrayed to be an emotionless freak when in audience, when she was alone she was the exact opposite, she was a lot more hot-tempered and showed many feelings other than anger.

When she at last came up to the front door she was genuinely astonished at what she found.

Because what she found was no other than the little girl she saved; standing in front of the doors. The child was fast asleep leaning on the hard wood, her posture indicated she was there for about at least 10-15 minutes or so, how could she tell that? Even she didn't know.

The girl also had a small bag with her. Walking to the girl she gently shook her form in order to awake her. “Hey...little girl, time to wake up now.”About a couple seconds later she started responding to her ministrations.

OoOoOoOoO Little Girls POV oOoOoOoOoOo(Starting since when she still was in the infirmary)

Starting to awake, I kept my eyes closed, I definitely remembered the last place I was in, was most definitely, not the place I was in now. I could feel the obvious difference of the cold hard ground and a nice soft bed.

Keeping quiet I slowly opened my eye in wonder, what I saw had my mind reeling in circles. I was in a infirmary! How did I get here? I really want to know. I studied my surroundings memorizing what I could, hearing footsteps I quickly faked sleep so as to not arouse any suspicion in this unknown place.

When I heard the footsteps get closer to me I almost panicked, but I managed to still my movements in time. “You poor, poor thing. I wonder what happened to such a cute child like you to have those kinds of cuts marring your still pure skin. Heh, better check your temperature to make sure your if fever is going down.”

Hearing the nurse searching for something I mostly calmed down because since when did bad guys care for the wounded? And I have absolutely no value to be kept as a hostage.

'Somebody must have found me in the forest for me to be here.'Smiling a little I wondered who must have saved me. But soon my smile got wiped of my face when the nurse without warning inserted the thermometer in my mouth practically chocking me!

Sputtering the stupid thing away I tried to catch my breath.'IS SHE TRYING TO KILL ME!! SHEEESH!! I can't believe they actually hire nurses that stupid!'

Coughing a little bit more I calmed down so I could get a better look at the evil-nurse-that-wants-to-kill-cute-children-using-a-thermometer. I glared heatedly at her...but what came out of it was a deformed pout with a mix of squashed cheeks...basically, a failed attempt at being angry.

The lady seemed surprised that I was awake, and when she saw my expression she sweatdropped while laughing a little nervously. “Sorry about that,I wasn't paying attention. And I'm a bit surprised that you're already awake, because when you arrived you were pretty messed up. I had expected you to wake up in about in a hour or two, but I guess I was wrong. And by the way, my name's Mitsuko”

Mitsuko went and turned around mumbling “...Now where the hell did I put those new thermometers...” As she was looking for a thermometer I asked “Hey Mitsuko-san, do you know the person who rescued me?”

After a loud 'Aha!' she skipped to where I was once again. She answered me as she was walking towards me, “Well, she is a beauty when you see her for the first time, but, after you get to know her, she shows you her true side, that is nothing like you may have imagined her to be. And to describe her physical features, she has long brown hair and majestic silver eyes with red swirling in they're depths. She also has a perfect body that most men would drool for too. And that's about it.” She then tried to insert the thing with the red liquid into my mouth again...keyword,tried.

The moment I saw that thing headed straight at me I bolted faster than a horse on steroids. The moment I scrammed the nurse started chasing after me. “GET BACK HERE YOU LITTLE...ARGHHH!” She was screaming profanities at me. My ears almost bled.

I stuck out my tongue at her and watched as she turned a bright red color from anger. Our tiny show, was unfortunately cut off by the head doctor that had stumbled in on this place after following the screeching banshee that called herself a nurse.

“Mitsuko! Can you please calm down! Some of us are trying to work!” And thanking the heavens for that interruption, I quietly sneaked out. And while I was getting away, I grabbed the first things that came onto my mind.

Those were bandages, herbs, the accursed thermometer and a few other things. The only reason why I got away was because the doctor and Mitsuko were still arguing they're lungs out.

Making my way out, I stumbled for a few moments while getting used to the weight of the bag. After I got used to the weight, I proceeded to walk to try too miraculously find the front door. Considering I didn't know anything about where I was, the only thing I was doing was walking around aimlessly.

But by some sort of sick and twisted turn of fate, I found the door, and I opened it just to see if I was right. And what do you know? I was. Smiling stupidly to myself, I giggled from happiness. Leaning against the door I decided to wait there to see if I could spot the person who rescued me. Letting myself trust the description given to me by the lady, I started to pay attention to the corridors' around me. And without my knowledge I slowly fell asleep against the hard wood...

I noticed I fell asleep when someone was shaking me. I was about to say something to the one who woke me but, the only thing I could do was stare at the person.

Because it was a perfect description of the one who rescued me.
