Graceful Little Alice

BPOV

It’s been exactly one week since the wedding. I’m sitting in Forks hospital, watching my vegetative cousin. Her body trembled slightly with each breath she took. Whitney had survived the fall, but only barely. I thought back to the flurry of events that came after Sam, Embry and Quil dove off the cliff.

We had all walked back to the church in silence. Not the awkward ‘oh no, what do I say?’ silence, but the ominous, foreboding one that sends chills down your spine. Edward opened the large oak double doors effortlessly and all heads turned. Jasper seemed freaked, probably from the emotions I’m sure were radiating from the six of us.

“Whitney fell off the cliff.” I said quietly to everyone. Charlie, Renee and Phil flew into a state of panic. Carlisle called out to Jasper to keep everyone calm while he ran (almost too quickly to pass for human) out the doors behind us, climbed into his car and disappeared towards First Beach.

Carlisle had gotten there just in time. Any later and Whitney might not be here in the ICU unit of Forks Hospital like she is now. She had four broken ribs, a broken elbow and collar bone on top of the shattered ankle and fractured skull. The slap I had given her had left a hairline scratch across her face that wouldn’t properly heal now, thanks to the fall and meds she was on. She would have a thin red scar there for the rest of her life. Edward hadn’t left my side, nor had Jake tried to talk to me, since the almost-wedding. Whether it as because of Edward’s constant presence or his lack of something to say, I wasn’t sure. I was currently seated in his stony lap, watching again for the third time that week. As of right now, she’s in a coma. For how long, we’re not sure. From what they say, she could go either way: life or death. Not even Carlisle can do anything anymore. Her parents don’t care though. They’re having her transported to the hospital in Manhattan where they could pay for ‘some real treatment for their little angel’. She would be taken away later this evening. Alice had looked into her future recently, but said that it really could go either way. It made me wonder what I really wanted to happen to her. Live? Or die? Was I as heartless as Whi—

“This is interesting.” Edward mumbled into my hair, his melodic voice dragging me out of my revive.

“What is?” I asked quietly.

“She’s thinking about why she convinced Jake that you loved him. She had wanted what she thought was best for you. In the end, she would have made sure you didn’t end up with me or Jacob. As vile as she was, her intentions were…somewhat good.” He said in a slight tone of awe. I looked at the body before me. So Whitney had tried to set me up with a human. How odd. All this time it seemed as though this was all a big game to her. Now I was all confused. Hate her or love her? Before my mind could justify either decision, the door opened and four people with a stretcher came through. She was being taken to Manhattan now. I wasn’t sure what was going to happen, but I hoped she would live.

Edward and I had the real wedding the next weekend. It was gorgeous. And no more mishaps. The reception was amazing. Edward even ate the cake, though you could tell he wasn’t all that satisfied with it. He was completely amazed that I did the dances. Charlie and I danced to Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle. Well, SWAYED to Butterfly Kisses would be the more appropriate term.

“Bella, may I have this dance?” Edward asked sweetly as the newly wed song came on. We walked to the middle of the floor hand in hand. I didn’t recognize the song, but found that it fit our situation perfectly. I would have to thank Alice for that later.

Mysterious
That's what I call you
I'm curious about you
I'm scared and not sure that you are safe
But your eyes seem to say that you are good

-Chorus-
This is not a dream that I'm living
This is just a world of your own
You took me from all that I knew
Shown me how it feels to hope
With you with me, facing tomorrow together
I can learn to fly
Feels like I'm living in a lion's mouth, but the lion is an angel

Wise eyes, you see the core of me
Your gentleness melts me
And now I know that words cannot describe
The power that I feel when I'm with you

-Chorus-
This is not a dream that I'm living
This is just a world of your own
You took me from all that I knew
Shown me how it feels to hope
With you with me, facing tomorrow together
I can learn to fly
Feels like I'm living in a lion's mouth, but the lion is

Peace and power, love forever
Who am I to stand before you?
I am speechless
But in my weakness
You are here and all is well

You took me from all that I knew
Shown me how it feels to hope
With you with me, facing tomorrow together
I can learn to fly
Feels like I'm living in a lion's mouth, but the lion is an angel

-Chorus-
This is not a dream that I'm living
This is just a world of your own
You took me from all that I knew
Shown me how it feels to hope
With you with me, facing tomorrow together
I can learn to fly
Feels like I'm living in a lion's mouth, but the lion is an angel

Is an angel

We slow danced like we had at Prom two years ago. The group applauded and more music started up so that everyone else could dance. Everything was amazing, yet I knew it wouldn’t last long. That night, after saying tearful goodbye to everyone I treasured, I got into Edward's Aston Martin Vanquish and drove out on the road. It was wet and raining, the perfect weather for staging a car accident. And stage one we did. It was complicated, but we did it. The only thing they found the next morning was a hunk of contorted scrap metal sticking out of a hole in the side of a burnt down, abandoned shack off a highway near the airport. Apparently, the funeral was beautiful, even with the lack of our bodies. Some of our more treasured items were placed in a dual casket made of marble. We were buried in a secluded part of the Forks Cemetery and had a large group attend. Carlisle had asked the wolves to look after Charlie, on my request, and they agreed (“Only because we care about Charlie,” Sam had objected. Jake had remained silent throughout the talk according to Carlisle.) My cousin came out of her coma a week and a half later. As far as I know, she went back to being her usual demented self. Though, she did end up seeing a therapist and psychiatrist…though, that might be for the fall…guess I’ll never know. Edward and I spend every waking moment together, which is pretty danged often for a sleep-deprived vampire, but no complaints coming from me. Now, everything is finally at peace. Victoria is dead, I’m finally married and immortal, and most importantly, I have my angel, my love…my Edward.
