Taking Chances

Rating: Teen for language and maybe a few situations later on. I don't know yet.

Disclaimer: I don't own these hellasexy characters. I wish I did, though.

Summary: "Don't you ever take chances? You never feel the urge to be a badass and do whatever you want to do?"

A/N: I had this dream last night where Mulder and Scully were in high school and it was so cool. This first chapter was all of my dream. LOL. I'm gonna have to make up the rest as I go, but I thought it would make a nice first chapter for the story. (I've never written a full story of Scully and Mulder in high school, have I? XD)

Dana Scully sat in her assigned seat, pencil tapping ontop of her empty desk and her bag on the floor next to her feet. Her small, red converse barely reached the floor when she sat up right in her desk. The teacher stood at the front of the class with the test papers in his arms. The teacher opened his mouth to give out instrutctions, but the loud creak of the door being opened interuppted him.

Every head in the class turned towards the door, their eyes now fixed on their classmate who had a guilty grin on his face.

"Mr. Mulder... nice of you to show up today," the teached commented and pointed to an emtpy seat behind Dana. "Have a seat." Mulder's gaze followed the direction of his teacher's finger. As the rest of the students turned their attention back to the teacher, Dana kept her's on Mulder. Hazel eyes met blue and suddenly, the world had stopped for a moment. "Fox," the teacher stressed again.

He pushed himself away from the door and made his way down the middle isle, stopping at the fifth desk. He let his bag fall from his shoulders as he slumped in his chair and rested his head in his hands. His face was dangerously close to Scully's hair, which he noticed, smelled like coconuts and strawberries.

"Now that everyone's here," the teacher began, "-time to take the test." He began passing them out, placing them front down on the desks so no one could get started yet. As he made his way towards Scully's desk, she could hear the boy behind her curse under his breath. She licked her lips nervously as her teacher carefully placed her test in front of her. She was tempted to turn it over and sneak a glance at the test, but her hands stayed in her lap.

"You may begin," the teacher called out.

Everyone turned their test over... except Mulder.

Dana eased her way through the test. She breezed through the matching and mulitiple choice. As she neared her essay questions, she felt a gentle tap on her shoulder. She jumped slightly and looked back over her shoulder at Mulder, who finally had his test flipped over with no answers written down yet. Her eyes widened a little.

"Mind sharing?" She shook her head and turned around. She griped her pencil harder to start her essay questions, but stopped when she felt another tap. "What's the steps for the scientific method?" She hesitated, her heart pounding in her chest a million beats per second. Never in her life had she cheated on a test. Not once.

"I-" She noticed Mulder's eyes quickly averted to the floor. She spun around in her desk, her red hair fanning around her face as her own eyes met her teacher's belt. Slowly, her gaze crept up to meet her teacher's.

"What's so interesting back here that needed to be whispered?" Mulder sighed and let his head fall against the desk. Scully opened her mouth to come up with an excuse, anything than admitting she was just about to cheat. "I'm disappointed in you, Dana," he shook his head sadly and grabbed both of their test papers.

"But I," she began but stopped as he walked away with their papers.

"Dana and Fox, step outside for a moment please," he muttered as he marked two F's on their papers. Slowly, Dana made her way outside, trying to avoid the looks and giggles of her classmates. Mulder followed and shut the door behind him. She paced back and forth in the hall, running her fingers through her hair and fighting away the tears.

"Look, I'm sorry for getting you caught," Mulder leaned against a row of lockers and shoved his hands into his pockets.

"No you're not," she spat back. "You couldn't care less."

"Well actually, I could," his smartass attitude made something in her snap.

"What the hell is your problem?" He blinked. "You don't even know me and you were expecting me to help you cheat on your test?"

"Well it was worth a shot." She shook her head and leaned on the lockers opposite of him.

"I can't believe this. I can't fucking believe this," his eyes widened at her use of lanuage. Such a bad word from a pretty mouth. "If I get an F on this test, your ass is mine." He let out a laugh and ran his eyes over her face.

"What are you going to do? Spit on my shoes?" He waited for her answer, but she didn't have one.

"You are the most ignorant person I have ever met in my entire life, you know that?"

"And you're the most stuck up person I've ever met. Did you know that?" She rolled her eyes. The door opened and the teacher walked out into the hall, stopping the argument before it could go any further.

"Fox, Dana... one of you wanna tell me what that was about in there?"

The teens glanced at each other, but made no attempt to speak up; it's not like their teacher would've believed them anyways. Mr. Collins was a hardass. He didn't get along with kids and his tests were brutal. He had stressed to the class on the first day of school that cheating would not be tolerated, and this was a perfect example for the rest of his class.

"Well you've given me no choice but to fail you two. Maybe next time you'll learn your lesson." Mulder's eyes went to Scully's. He watched as the tears gathered in the corners and suddenly spoke up.

"Mr. Collins... it was my fault." The older man turned his attention to the boy in front of him. "I was trying to get Dana to cheat and the only reason she turned around was to tell me no." Mulder let out a sigh and sook his head, pleading with his eyes. "Don't fail her, sir. She doesn't deserve that." The teacher narrowed his eyes and looked at Scully.

"It this true, Dana?" She glanced back at Mulder, still not sure if she should trust him or not, and nodded weakily.

"Yes, sir," she whispered.

"Alright, then." He pointed to Mulder. "You walk yourself to the office." He pointed to Scully. "And you get back in the class to finish your test." And he was gone.

Mulder turned carelessly to walk down the empty hall to get to the office, but her voice stopped him.

"Mulder?"

"Yeah?" She debated on walking up to him, but stayed where she was at. He was only a few feet away from her.

"Thanks."

"Don't mention it." She gave him a smile which tempted him to smile back, but he gave her a smirk and pointed to their class. "You better get in there and finish your test before he really decides to give you an F." She nodded and watched as he turned back and continued to walk.

Dana met her older brother in the student parking lot and threw her bag in the backseat of his car. She leaned against the hood and waited for him to walk out of the gym doors, when her attention was grabbed by a loud group of boys a few cars away from her. She tilted her head to get a better look at them and blinked when she saw Mulder laughing with a few of his friends.

He felt her stare and looked at her, giving her a nod and waving once before turning his attention back to his friends. Dana jumped when she felt a hand on her arm.

"I heard you got caught cheating today," he almost looked angry.

"I wasn't cheating."

"Then why'd you get called into the hall?"

"Because-" She stopped and pushed herself away from the hood of the car. "How do you even know about that?"

"This is high school, Dana. Nothing stays a secret for more than two hours."

"Some guy behind me was bugging me for answers to our science test. I went to tell him no and that's when he got caught."

"What guy?"

Dana knew her brother was very protective, it was only part of his nature. Their father was gone a lot so he took the responibility as the man of the house. She also knew his brother was pretty popular and knew a lot of people around the school.

"I don't know," she lied.

A/N: And there it is. (smiles) I'm sorry for any grammar mistakes. Reviews would make my day. I love you all. LOL. So yeah... I was listening to Arctic Monkey's song, Despair in the Departure Lounge while I typed this. It reminds me of Mulder and Scully. (shrugs)

Review and lemme know if you want me to continue!
