The intriguing facets of shattered glass

A Labyrinth Fanfic

And do me a favour, and ask if you need some help!
She said, do me a favour and stop flattering yourself!
How to tear apart the ties that bind, perhaps fuck off, might be too kind,
Perhaps fuck off, might be too kind.

Arctic Monkeys, Do me a favour.

“Care to elaborate as to why the Goblin King is at my door after ten years of silence?” Sarah asked as soon as they both sat down, slightly surprising Jareth who was looking at his surroundings. “Because I don’t think that my charming company was the reason for this unexpected visit.”

He grinned guiltily, shaking his head slightly. “As much as I’d love to say that your… charming… company was my reason for venturing Aboveground, no. How much do you know about Underground politics, love?”

“Some basics. A few laws, to a reasonable extent. Why?” Sarah said, curiously.

“Apparently, the high court has decided that the time has come for me to… marry. Unfortunately for all of us, I disagreed.”

Sarah mentally laughed at the thought of Jareth getting married, and even more at the thought of Jareth being forced to marry. “So what?”

“Well, they can literally make me marry if they want to. Problem is, they’d have to find me first. Underground that would be a ‘piece of cake’, but Aboveground…”

Now she really started to laugh. “You’re hiding?! Good gods, that’s hilarious…”

He glared at her. “Not hiding… simply very carefully not coming in contact with them.”

“Sure, sure. But what’s that got to do with me?”

“I don’t exactly have a cosy home Aboveground you know… So, I was kind of wondering… if you?” He almost bit his tongue. Why was he avoiding saying it?

Sarah stared at him. “You need a place to stay, and you decided this was your best shot? That’s actually kind of sad, you know…”

He stared back.

She yawned.

“Yeah.”

“Fine.”

He blinked. “Fine, Sarah? My, how you surprise me. Not a hint of protest or anger?”

“Jareth. Currently I haven’t slept in 48 hours, had to suffer from various noises that not even a goblin could call music in bars where you rarely leave alone, if not never, had several attempts to get me in bed that were even worse than those of the average hormone driven teenage boy, yet were equally, if not more, persistant, and I don’t even want to think of how much drug and alcohol polluted air I’ve breathed in tonight, all this for a bloody birthday party in London. I am not in the mood for any riddles or games. Tomorrow morning, I will be happily scream, shout and kick you out, but right now, I just want to sleep, and if I were you I’d just accept the offer before I kick you out now anyway. Clear?” Sarah said, her glare intensifying after every word.

He swallowed. “Of course, my Lady.”

She stood up, took a few steps, and turned around. “Second door to your left. Don’t expect to see me before noon.”

He nodded, then thought of something. “Sarah?”

“What?

“Isn’t London in England?”

“Yeah…. So?”

“We’re currently in America, right?”

“Yeah. Remind me never to use mirrors again when pissed off. Bloody annoying to transport when all I get to work with is shattered glass.”
