4: Chapter Three

December 26, 1985

05:00 PM PST

Calvin Klein Universe

“So, here we are” Doc said after the DeLorean broke the time barrier. He turned to Marty and Jennifer. “How’s it going in the back?”

“We’re fine” Marty assured him but to see at his face you wouldn’t say that. He looked very much shook because of the temporal displacement. Well, temporal…they were only going three minutes back in time, but three minutes back into another universe.

“Here too” Jennifer replied. “Where are we?”

Doc turned to the time circuits to have a shock. “Great Scott!” he yelled. “What?” Marty asked. He didn’t know why his best friend was so upset.

“I accidentally inputted #EJ 55 instead of #EJ 56. Present Time reads ‘#EJ 55 DEC 26 1985 05:02 PM.’

“Oh don’t worry” Marty assured him. “We could check out #EJ 55 before #EJ 56. This place must be a little more different as our dimension, then.”

“Yeah, I guess so” Doc commented. “Should we head over to Courthouse Square by now? I mean, that’ll be the way to see what kind of dimension we ended up in.”

“Yeah, I hope so” Marty nodded. “I’m so afraid to end up in that Biff-universe. You know, I wonder how the Biff-future had looked like if Biff only had one time gambled. If we had taken the almanac right away after he had his first gambling. Should it have turned out like 1985A did or more like the real 1985? He sure wouldn’t wash cars anymore but…”

“Yeah, I get what you mean” Doc said. “Besides, I think we could’ve taken the Almanac from him in the years between November 12 of 1955 and March 26 of 1958, the day Biff gambled for the very first time.”

“Maybe” Marty said. “Let’s fly over to Courthouse Square, now. Or are we already there?”

“Not yet” Doc said and started the engine. The time machine headed over to the Square to give Marty the relieve everything looked fine. The clock said still 10.04 PM and there was no Biff Tannen’s Pleasure Paradise on top of it.

“Well, at least that’s a relief” Doc commented. “Let’s head over to my place now…” he paused, “wherever it might be.”

oooooooo

Martin Seamus McFly, now 47, was sitting on the bench. He looked at his parents George and Lorraine, who were his age. It was after more as thirty years still strange to see them as friends, instead of his parents – what they actually were.

He remembered the time he had first gotten himself to explain them about time travel. They were rather shocked and unbelieving at first, but had believed the story after Doc had showed them the time machine and had taken them back to October 26, 1956.

Marty began to grin, as he remembered how shocked his parents had been when they first saw their younger selves – Young Lorraine had almost fainted by the sight of Old Lorraine. Lucky enough they had been be able to erase it from their memories. He was happy now of having the luck of his parents who also were dealing with two sets of memories, so they could help each other.

Marty then began to think of his second set of memories. It didn’t came until the day after his younger self had gotten send back. It was confusing at first, but Doc had helped him coping with it. He really owed Doc one for it.

“Where are you thinking off Marty?” Doc asked smiling. “Are you still confused by the concept of time travel which makes you sitting in front of your parents your age?” After Marty nodded, he chuckled: “Well, I guess it’s more your parents who must be confused. After all they’ve known just a month their good friend Calvin Klein was really their very own son.”

“Yeah, I know” Marty nodded. “But for me it’s also surreal. I really lived through the late 1960, 1970s and 1980s two times.” He sighed and took a deep breath of air. “Oh man what is this heavy!”

“I still remember how you confused me,” Doc said, “by the first time you said that word back in 1955. I kept worrying about what might’ve been wrong with the earth’s gravitation pull in the future. It was really strange for me when the 1980s came and I heard the slang for the very first time!” He then left the room.

“Yeah, I bet that might’ve been strange” Marty said. “For me it was also so confusing when everything in town became the things I remembered from my youth. I mean my youth before I was sent back. It was also great how I actually ended up marrying Jennifer’s aunt Mary. I still remember how confused I was when I first saw her. It was if I was seeing Jennifer – however she still hadn’t been born yet for another nine years.”

“I’m home! That’s right, I’m home! Junior’s home!” called Calvin Jr cheerfully when he entered the room. “Hi Dad, Hi Doc, hi Grandma and Grandpa.” He chuckled by the last words. “Man, it’s still confusing the friends of my parents I always have known are really my grandparents.”

“Yeah” George said, coming into the talking, “I guess that’s true. For us it’s also so strange. It is even stranger as time travel on itself. It was really great to have last month that trip back to 1956. The 1950s are really great, I think, and even while it hasn’t got any modern day technology I think it wouldn’t be that bad if I might end up being struck there.”

“Talking about future technology,” Calvin Jr said, “I still remember how out-of-place I felt when we ended up being in 2016. It’s strange to know I marry Dad’s first girlfriend Jennifer, and have a son named Calvin III who looks exactly like me. Sometimes, time travel can really be great and bad at the same time.”

“October 21, 2016” Doc sighed. “It was great to see that. It’s a good thing the future turned out a lot better than when I first was in the 2010s. Calvin III still looked like his father and was still Jennifer’s son, but he was a complete wimp, bullied around by Biff’s grandson Griff. It’s a good thing we stopped Calvin Jr from having that accident with Needles last year.”

“It’s so bad,” Calvin Jr sighed, “that Needles only started picking on me because I looked exactly like the person he first bullied. He’s been bullying me since the first day on school.” He looked at his Dad. “Boy o boy Dad, that guy really hates everyone who looks only a bit like Michael J Fox doesn’t he?”

“Well, we look exactly like him and not just a bit” Marty said. “And you’re the spitting image of me when I was 18. And, as we saw, your older self from 2016 looks just like me.” He took a deep piece of air. “And before you start saying: I know, this is heavy.”

All the visitors in the room grinned, and Doc re-entered with a big bag with chips and hamburgers in it. “Hello, hello!” he called out, “what about a good piece of snacks? I just got this out of my freezer. It might be a little old, but it’s still good to eat.”

“Thanks, Doc,” Marty commented, “you really are a great guy to be around with. I’ve explored you little more now for the past thirty years and you are fun to be around with. I’m now not surprised you and me became friends – we’re both a little strange and sometimes lonely; me in my music, and you in your science.” He sighed. “Well, that was the reason before I went back in time.”

“Well” Doc tried to start when the door bell rang. “Might be Jennifer” he said. Then turning to George and Lorraine, he added: “She’s been out with a few girls from school the last day. I hope for Calvin Jr she’s back now.”

“Don’t you dare teasing me with loving my Dad’s first girlfriend,” Calvin Jr grinned. “I mean, Dad’s supposed to be gone now, so why can’t Jennifer and I have a little fun together? I know we’re cousins, but – we are destined to marry and have Calvin III, so we can’t just ignore each other.”

“Okay, all right” Doc sighed and went off to the door, not being prepared to have one of the biggest shocks in his life. Because when he opened the door, the person who greeted him was not Jennifer or her aunt Mary. It was none less than himself. He added softly a “Great Scott” before fainting to the floor.
