I do not own Yu-gi-oh. This is my first Seto x Serenity fic. Yay! Also, Shizuka is Serenity’s name in the manga, and I just like it better. So I will be using it. Apologies if I portray Serenity badly. I like her, but I am not like her. So it is hard for me to get it right. A lot of people say this couple doesn’t work. Any couple works if you build up to it right! Although honestly I may wind up pairing Shizuka with someone else.
"How did you meet Kaiba?"
"Is he good in bed?"
"Does he have a name for it?"
Really, the nerve of these people! I'm glad my brother isn't here, he would be so mad!
"Ignore those vultures." Seto told me. His eyes lingered over me.
I blushed. I did look pretty good though. I was wearing my hair up in a twist, with a dull but elaborately carved ivory comb in it. Mai had helped me put on makeup. I had had to blot it quite a bit, since I can't wear it as bold as she does. Tea had loaned me a very nice white summer dress of hers, and some white high heels. Unfortunately, they were much too high. I kept tripping. I'm sure the cameras got it all. We were walking to the entrance of the stadium where the World Charity Tournament would be held. Seto would be dueling there. He and Pegasus were footing the expenses. But with the entry fees and tickets to the duels plus private donations there would be a lot of money raised for poor kids in third world countries.
My friend Macy went to Africa to provide free aid. She's a dental student. She said that when the doctors de-wormed the kids, worms would just pour out of them. Like they don't have enough trouble getting food, without parasites taking their nutrients.
That actually has a lot to do with why I agreed to date Seto. I know he's not that bad, but he can be...intense. Scary. Dominating. I can never seem to be comfortable around him. You should have seen Joey when he found out I was going to the tournament on Kaiba's arm. He was beyond furious.
Finally we got through the doors of the stadium. The reporters gave one final surge and Seto's bodyguards shoved them back. We walked inside. Kaiba put his arm around my shoulders.
"Try not to trip in here, okay?" he whispered.
My face went hot. Cursed high heels. He got to wear nice flat boots, of course he didn't understand. We walked down the well-lit corridor and got into an elevator. We had came through the private entrance for the heavy sponsors and organizers. One of the bodyguards hit the 2nd story button. The elevator began to rise. I looked over at Seto. He was messing with a Blackberry. I must've been the most boring date ever. I don't really understand why he was interested in me. Joey said it was because he was a user and a sicko, and that he would hurt me. I wasn't sure I believed that. I wasn't sure that I didn't, either.
Finally the elevator lurched to a stop. I tripped, and fell onto Kaiba. I grabbed hold of his coat-thing's lapels to stop myself from falling, and the fabric ripped. He cursed. I squeaked an apology and darted out the elevator doors. He looked so mad. He came out of the elevator and I could him making a conscious effort not to scowl.
He managed to turn it into a smile. A scary, predatory smile. Yikes! He put his arm around my waist and led me down to the seating box. It was a box far above the stands where the other spectators sat. Red velvet hangings covered the top and sides. We had a perfect view of the arena, however. There were twelve seats, filled with two businessmen I didn't recognize, Mokuba, and Yugi.
Kaiba sat on Mokuba's right. He clearly expected me to sit next to him, but I sat next on Mokuba's left. Yugi was right ahead of me. I just couldn't stand the though of sitting by Kaiba, making a fool of myself and feeling too awkward and self-conscious to enjoy the matches. Luckily, I felt perfectly comfortable around Kaiba's little brother. While we waited for the first duels to start, he explained the ranking system. Kaiba and Yugi didn't have to qualify for the duels. All the other duelists had to battle until there were only 8 duelists left, then those 8 duelists would be battling the 8 semi-finalists of the Battle City Tournament. It would take 5 days to go through all the participating duelists, probably because the tournament was welcome to anyone who wanted to pay the entrance fee and take a shot at winning. Then the last 2 days would be the battles between the 16 duelists.
I would get to watch all my friends duel again, and possibly more. Tristan and Duke were entered too. It would be awesome if they qualified for the finals.
Suddenly Kaiba leaned over to me. His face was intense and cold at the same time. As usual.
"Do you need anything before the duels start?"
I shook my head frantically.
"Sure she does!" Mokuba piped up. He recited a list of junk food as long as the duelist list, as well as for everyone in the box. Roland trotted off to get the food.
Meanwhile Yugi had turned around.
"Are you enjoying the tournament, Shizuka?"
"Very much-"
"You spineless little milksop! How dare you date Seto?!!!" a redheaded girl pelted through the door to the balcony, shouting and cursing. She leapt over the seats and onto my lap. Before I could comprehend what was happening she'd punched me in the face and was dragging me toward the side of the balcony. Everyone was yelling. Seto stood up, and Yugi leapt on the girl's back and bit her on the neck. We fell over in an ungainly heap. It was a dark, messy confusion of bodies until Kaiba pulled her out of the pile and held her in a headlock. She was howling.
The bodyguards came and hauled her out of the box. I stayed on the floor and covered my face with my hands. I sobbed, shocked. She'd attacked me like some sort of wild animal! My face was bleeding and my lip was split. One of my heels was broken.
I heard Kaiba send Yugi off to get a cold cloth to wipe my face with. I heard the businessmen blocking the door from the reporters and fending them off. I wanted to die. I'd never been so humiliated. So degraded. I looked like a weak sissy to Kaiba, and probably the world, if the reporters had gotten their shot.
