Here's a little something that popped into my head. It takes place after Kathy has the baby and everything. The name of the baby is subject to change when I find out what his real name is. I hope you like this.
Olivia coughed loudly, breaking the silence in the squad room of the 1-6 precinct.
Everyone looked at her, and then back down at their paperwork. Everyone except her partner Elliot Stabler.
“Are you ok?” he asked, looking at her with concerned eyes.
“I’m fine.”
Cough. Cough.
“You should go home, Elliot. Go home and see your son. I’m sure that Kathy needs you.”
Cough. Cough.
“You’re right. I should go.” he sighed and folded the file closed. Lately, Kathy had made him be at home more often. She wanted him involved in their baby boy’s life. But contrary to Olivia’s beliefs, he hadn’t stopped caring for his partner. He had just been distracted lately.
“Liv, you should go home too. Let me drive you.” he stood next to her desk and looked down at her.
Cough. Cough.
“I’m fine, El. I can drive myself.” she snapped.
“Please Liv. It would make me feel better.” he told her.
Cough. Cough.
What if I don’t care what you think?
“Just go, Elliot!” she raised her voice. She sounded as if she was on the brink of tears.
Cough. Cough.
Just as he was about to walk away, a searing pain shot through her side. She cried out as her insides felt as though they were on fire.
Cough. Cough.
She felt bile rise in her throat, and before she could think about it, she was on her knees vomiting on the trashcan.
Cough. Cough.
She sobbed, her stomach twisting and writhing inside of her. Elliot was at her side, holding her hair out of her face. He helped her sit up.
“Are you ok?” his voice was worried.
Cough. Cough.
Another pain shot through her side. Again, she cried out. She felt bile rise again, but fought to hold it down. But the combination of a cough attack and a burning pain caused her to lose control. She threw up again. Munch and Fin were by her side as well.
Cough. Cough.
“El...” she muttered, leaning into her partners arms. Her whole body was on fire. She leaned against her partner and her eyes fluttered closed. The last thing she heard was Elliot calling for a bus.
OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO
Elliot paced the waiting room of the hospital. Every few seconds he glanced down at his watch. Casey sat in the chair watching him walk back and forth. It had been nearly nine hours since they had brought Olivia in. What could be wrong with her?
“Elliot, she’ll be fine.” Casey tried to sound reassuring, but she was really worried herself.
“Why didn’t she tell me something was wrong? I should’ve known. She’s been sick and feverish for weeks now! I knew something was wrong! I just spent too much time worrying about Kathy and Mikey. What the hell is wrong with me?” he ranted, waving his hands around as he spoke.
“Take it easy, El. We’ve all been distracted lately.” Casey sighed.
“Elliot! Oh thank god you’re ok!” Kathy’s voice echoed in the near empty waiting room. Lizzie pushed the stroller with two month old Michael Stabler in it while Kathy rushed up and engulfed Elliot in a huge bear hug.
“Kathy? What are you doing here?” he questioned.
“I called the precinct wondering why you didn’t come home! Your captain said you were at the hospital! I was worried sick!” Kathy embraced him again. “Mikey wouldn’t sleep without his father!” she buried her head in his shoulder as she hugged him.
“Kathy...Liv is sick. We don’t know what’s wrong with her.” Elliot sighed as he peeled his wife off of him and held her at arms length.
“Oh! That’s awful!” Kathy gasped. “I hope it’s nothing serious.”
“Yeah, us too.” Casey commented.
“Excuse me, which one of you is Elliot Stabler?” a doctor questioned.
“That would be me.” Elliot pushed Kathy away and walked over the doctor.
“I’m Doctor Johnson. Since you’re listed as Ms. Benson’s next of kin we’ll be informing you of her condition, then.” the doctor explained as he led Elliot down a hallway bustling with nurses and doctors and patients.
“Condition? What condition?” Elliot questioned as the doctor led him down another hallway. The sign about the doorway leading to the hallway made Elliot’s heart stop.
Cancer Wing.
“I’m sorry to tell you, but Ms. Benson has advanced Pancreatic Cancer.” Doctor Johnson paused outside one of the rooms.
“Isn’t that untreatable?” Elliot asked, his jaw quivering as he spoke the words.
“This late into the disease, yes. We can start her on chemotherapy in the next week or so. We can give her medication, keep her comfortable. There are things we can do to prolong her life a few hours, maybe a few days.” Doctor Johnson folded his hands and stared at Elliot with sympathetic eyes. Elliot could feel waves of panic, sadness, and worry rush through him.
“H-how l-long does she h-have to l-live?” he stuttered.
“She has two to three months minimum. Six months maximum.” Doctor Johnson grasped the silver door handle and turned it. “She’s awake and perfectly aware of the situation. She’s taking it better than most do. She is asking for you though.”
Doctor Johnson pushed the door open. Elliot stepped inside and the door was closed behind him. Olivia sat in a bed holding a pen and a pad of paper. It was a nice private room with a TV, a couch, and a table near the bed. She smiled at him. Her face was pale and she had dark rings around her eyes. A tube of oxygen was strung around her ears and across her face. An IV was stuck in her hand.
“Hi.” she smiled at him and pointed at the couch. “Take a seat.”
Cough. Cough.
“How are you feeling?” he asked. It was the only thing he could bring himself to say.
“Shitty.” she replied. She looked back down at the paper and kept writing.
“Wha-what is that?” he asked curiously. Here she was, dying in the hospital and she looked like a teenage girl writing in her diary.
“Ten things I want to do before I die. Seeing as I only have a couple of months left, I figured I try to do everything I could. Even if I am sick and tired most of those two months. I want to go out with a bang! Leave an impression on some people.” she explained. She finished writing and put the cap back on her pen.
Elliot’s eyes were on her as she leaned back in the bed and reviewed her list.
