Title: Unexpected

Summary: It's not what they planned. But it's worth the try. BxD

Betty started like any other normal day of the week. She walked to her boss' desk and handed him a report. 'There you go, Daniel.' She didn't gave him a look, but turned around and left. She didn't even notice Daniel gave her a smile. Daniel ran after her. 'Betty! I need to ask you a favor.'

Betty turned around, a little bit irritated. 'I have a lot to do, now is not a good time.'

Daniel nodded. 'I know. You just have to say yes or no. It's this thing...' He started.

Betty gave him a look like: 'If you don't finish that sentence I'm gonna turn around and walk away'.

'Allright, allright, allright.' Daniel sighed. 'There's a family party next sunday, and they always pick a theme. This time I have to bring a girlfriend, which is hard, since I have no girlfriend.'

'Just, get to the point.' Betty answered annoyed.

'I want you to act like my girlfriend.' Daniel said.

Betty's mouth hung open. 'No way on earth I'm going to do that? Why not somebody else?'

'Because we're friends, and if I go with you I can have a nice chat with you. At least I've got someone to talk to.' Daniel said. He almost looked desperate.

Betty still couldn't believe it. 'But your father hired me to be your assistant, so you wouldn't hit on me...what is he going to think when he think I'm your girlfriend?' She asked.

'What would he think?' Daniel asked.

'Well, there is a possibility that he thinkes: why Betty?' Betty said. 'But there's a bigger chance he thinks: You couldn't bring a more beautiful girlfriend?'

'Look.' Daniel holded her shoulders, like he was afraid she was about to run away. 'To me you're a very special girl. And you're smart. I don't care what he thinks. I just want him to know that you're beautiful to me.' All the words came out before he could stop them. He wanted to walk away, so she could think about it, but the look on Betty's face kept him right where he stood. There was this awkward silence.

Betty coughed. 'Uh.' She started. 'Nobody...nobody has ever said that to me.'

Daniel didn't know what to say. So he just said: 'Surprising.' Betty gave him a look. 'That's not sarcastic!' He said quickly. He sighed. Why didn't he just say 'I didn't know what I was thinking', or why wouldn't he apologize? He mumbled 'no' to himself. He couldn't lie at this moment. Allright, he had to admit, for others Betty wasn't really the most beautiful person on earth, but there's this little feeling in his stomach and it keeps getting bigger and bigger. It's a funny feeling, but it can also be very frustrating. It's like a little animal, that needs to get out. And it did. On thursday 11 o'clock in the morning. He realized he's been standing here like some kind of idiot and he clears his throat. He gave her one last look. 'Let me know if you chance your mind.' He turned around and walked to his office.

Betty didn't move. She kept staring in space. And then, minutes later, a small smile was found on her face. Did Daniel just called her beautiful?
