Chapter 1 – The Waitress
Booth entered Sid’s to be assaulted by Parker, and someone singing; he swept the former into a hug while ignoring the singer.
“Look what I did daddy,” Parker pulled him over to the booth where Rebecca was already sitting. On the table was a crayon drawing of a stick figure dressed in square clothes and holding a blocky gun pointed toward the ground.
“Who is this Parker?” Booth slid into the booth pulling parker onto his lap. “You let him draw this?” He asked Rebecca.
“It’s you daddy.”
Booth was a little relieved but still worried about the effect this might have on his son future. “And you did a great job, but you shouldn’t draw pictures like this.”
“That’s what mommy said, but Mrs. Bonnie said to draw what our daddies’ did.”
Booth glared at Rebecca, she wasn’t helping any. “Well then you should give me a badge and not a gun. Okay?”
“Okay,” Parker slid off Booths lap to sit next to the window.
“Can I get anything for ya’ll today?” A girl appeared next to their, “or would you like a menu?”
“Cheeseburger?” Parker asked looking from Booth to Rebecca hopefully
“Tell her,” Rebecca urged.
“But you said not to talk to strangers,” Parker said to Booth.
“You can tell her what you want parker.” This wasn’t good he hadn’t meant to scare parker this much. “It’s okay.” Parker still didn’t look soothed.
“Well you really should listen to your father it helps a lot. So that we won’t be strangers I’m Jordan,” the waitress held out her hand to Parker.
Booth saw what she was doing and was surprised that she would bother to calm the fears of a child; of course she didn’t even look like she was out of high school. “I’m Seeley Booth,” He shook her head jerking his head for Rebecca to do the same, which she did.
“I’m guessing your a detective ex-military,” Jordan said shaking Booth’s hand, “and you wanted to be a teacher,” she shook Rebecca’s hand.
“What?” Booth and Rebecca asked at the same time.
“It’s a trick my dad taught me.”
“What’s your daddy do?” Parker broke in.
“I don’t think we’ve me. I’m Jordan,” Jordan held her hand out to Parker.
Parker glanced at Booth who nodded, “I’m Parker,” he grinned as they shook hands.
“Well since your dad hasn’t said anything our dads do the same thing. Mine’s a detective also, only in Canada.”
“Where’s that?”
“A really, really long way away. Took me a week to drive here.”
“You can drive!” Parker’s eyes nearly looked like they’d pop out of his head. “Can I drive to?”
Jordan grinned at Parkers’ hopeful look and Rebecca’s scared one. “How old are you Park?”
“Four,” Parker held up four fingers.
“Well, when you can add twelve more fingers to that then you might be able to learn.”
“I only got ten fingers.”
“JORDAN I’M NOT PAYING YOU TO SOICALIZE!”
“That’s my boss. What can I get for ya’ll?”
“How are you doing?”
Booth looked down to see Parker holding someone’s phone. “Here let me have that,” he took the phone from Parker. “I’m sorry my son found this phone.”
“What the hells going on?” Booth knew that voice even though he hadn’t heard it in years. “Where’s Jordan? Why do you have her phone?”
“Calm down. My son found this phone and answered it. Just tell me who it belongs to and I’ll get it back to them.”
“Calm down yourself! Where’s my daughter?”
“Why don’t you tell me her name?”
Jordan appeared holding three plates. “Um, excuse me Mr. Booth but that’s my phone.” Booth handed it to her and she grinned turning away. “Hi dad…no I’m fine…”
“Who was that?” Parker asked.
Booth slid into the seat beside his son. “That was Jordan’s dad. Where did you get her phone?”
“She left it here,” Parker pointed to his other side. “I thought it was yours.”
“You really shouldn’t answer other people’s phones. A lot of times they don’t like that.”
“Okay.”
