One in a Million: Chapter 1

Flying Books and New Neighbors

MADISON POV

"OH, MY, FREAKING, HECK!" My sister, Destiny, was staring adoringly at something from our porch in Malibu. I looked up from my novel, a little bit annoyed. She was always saying ‘OH, MY, FREAKING, HECK!' at everything. What was it this time? I looked over the edge of our second-deck balcony to see what was going on. There was a moving truck. That was normal because our neighbors had just sold their house, and some new people were moving in. And then I saw the limo.

"OH MY GOSH, IT'S THE JONAS BROTHERS!! LOOK!!" Destiny cried.

I sighed, then replied, "Yes, but don't you think they should be treated like normal people?" I asked her.

This time she was the one to sigh. "Don't you get it? They're FAMOUS." She replied, saying the word ‘famous’ dramatically. She sighed. I knew she was thinking about Kevin. She was marveling at them like they were angels sent from above, and I knew she would explode if she didn't go see them the second the got out of their limo.

"Well, have fun drooling all over him. He'll probably order a restraining order." She glared at me. I smiled smugly. She simply replied, “Humph!” and grabbed my book out of my hands.

"HEY!" I shouted, running toward her. She laughed and pulled it out of my reach. She was two years older than me, and she teased me about reading too much.

"If you read too much then your brain will frizzle up and turn to ashes." She said, crossing her eyes.

"Frizzle isn't even a real word." I said, rolling my eyes. I lunged at her and my book went flying off the porch.

"Ouch..." I heard someone say. Destiny and I looked over the edge of our porch. We'd hit someone in the head with my book. Destiny gasped.

"I'm soooooooo--" She began, but I cut her off.

"She's sorry." I elbowed her in the gut.

"OW!" She said. "That hurt, Madison!" She stuck her tongue out at me. I rolled my eyes. Even though she was older than me, she could be WAY immature. Especially when it came to boys.

"Whatever Destiny, that SO didn’t hurt." I said. Then I turned to the person the book had hit. "You're Nick Jonas, right?" I asked.

"Duh!!" Destiny said.

"Yeah," Nick said, smiling. He reached down and picked up the book that had flown in the air.

"Pride and Prejudice?" He said.

"Yeah. It's one of my favorites." I said.

"Good book." he remarked. I smiled. Nick had good taste in books.

"Here, I'll come down and get it." I offered.

"I’ll come and help!!" Destiny said, turning towards the door and running inside. I rolled my eyes yet again and followed her.

NICK POV

"No! Ew, gross!!" Kevin shouted. I laughed. Joe, with the help of Frankie, was trying to shoot spitballs at him.

"GUYS! Appropriate limo behavior please!" I yelled over Kevin and Joe. They stopped and looked towards me like I was an alien from a completely different universe. Then they looked at each other and at the same time and yelled, "Get him!"

They pounced on me and Joe started pelting me with spitballs while Kevin playfully tackled me. Frankie was laughing so hard, because we probably weren't acting like rock stars should. We were all still laughing our heads off when our limo driver said, "We're two blocks away guys.” Joe whooped in the air and yelled "YEAH!"

"What, you excited to see some hot girls?" Kevin teased.

"Heck , yeah!" Joe said. We were moving to a sunnier place. Joe was particularly happy that it was California, because he loved the beach girls. I wasn't that exited for beach girls. Most of the ones I had met were all airheads. I liked the ones with brains.

We finally pulled up to a house. Next door there were two girls on a balcony, one painting her nails and one reading. The one reading had long strawberry-blonde hair and looked my age. The other one had strawberry-blonde hair too, but it was shorter. She seemed a few years older than me, more Kevin’s age. The limo pulled to a stop and all three of us piled out to help the movers carry the furniture in.

Joe and Kevin rushed over to help a mover carry a big couch, leaving me standing there, looking at our new house. I smiled. It was a pretty cool house. I walked over by the limo to go and find Frankie when something hit me in the head.

"Ouch..." I said. I looked up and saw the two girls next door talking. The older looking one noticed me and said,

"I'm soooooooo--" the older one began but was cut off by the younger one.

"She's sorry." The younger one apologized. Then she elbowed the older one in the gut. It reminded me of when I had done that to Joe in the limo earlier.

"OW!" She said. "That hurt, Madison!" She stuck her tongue out at the other girl, who I figured was Madison.

"Whatever Destiny, that SO didn’t hurt." Madison replied. Then she turned towards me.” You’re Nick Jonas, right?" she asked.

"Duh!!" Destiny said.

"Yeah," I said, smiling. The older one, I think Madison called her Destiny, was preppy, I could tell. I wasn't sure about the younger one, Madison, yet. I reached down and picked up the book that had flown in the air and read the title.

"Pride and Prejudice?" I asked. I had read that book for a reading class.

"Yeah. It's one of my favorites." Madison replied.

"Good book.” I remarked. She had a good taste in books.

"Here, I'll come down and get it," she offered.

"I’ll come and help!!" Destiny said, turning towards the door and running inside. I resisted the urge to laugh. I wondered what Joe would think of these new neighbors.

Destiny POV

“Come on! Hurry up, Madison!” I called out as I rushed down the stairs, Madison following me, to get her book. We were about to meet celebrities! Let alone the Jonas Brothers! No, we were about to liveby the Jonas Brothers!

“Well, I’m sorry if I don’t believe in treating celebrities any different!” Madison called back.

I sighed and stopped for a minute to give her a minute to catch up. “Finally!” We went outside where Nick was waiting. “Hey, sorry, my little sis’ bumped me and I dropped her book. I hope you didn’t get hurt…”

“Oh, no, it’s fine. I always dreamed of first meeting my new neighbors by having them drop a book on my head!” Nick replied. I giggled.

Madison just rolled her eyes, waited. Then she said, “Can I just have my book now so that I can go back to my reading?”

“Of, course. Sorry, here you go,” Nick said as he handed her book back.

She took it with a simple, “Thank you,” and then walked inside.

“I’m so sorry about my sister. She doesn’t believe in ‘treating celebrities special’. So, whenever we get the chance to meet one, she’s always extremely rude,” I explained, sighing.

“Oh, it’s fine. I-I think I sort of like it…” he said, thinking. I started to wonder if he liked her…Ooh! Then, they could start dating, and then they could hook me up with…Oh, my freaking heck! They could hook me up with Zac Efron!! But then again, he’s too old for me. And he’s not all that cute. But then again, there are other cute celebrities out there my age who the Jonas Brothers could introduce me to…hm…Begin operation Matchmaker!

While I was plotting, Kevin came over and said, “Oh, hey, is this the new neighbor?” When Nick nodded and whispered something to him, Kevin waved then said, “Hello? Do you copy? You’re sort of spacing out- Destiny, that’s your name, right?”

“Oh-hi, Kevin! Yeah, sorry, I was just thinking. And yeah, that’s most definitely my name. Hey, just wondering, would you boys like to come over for dinner sometime?”

Kevin’s POV

“Pull! Left, left, left, right, left! Left, left, left, right, left! Come on!” I shouted as Joe and I unloaded a heavy couch into our new house. I was pulling, he was pushing. I guess I did get the easy end of it…”Okay, break! Come on; let’s go get our drinks from the car!”

“Okay, dude, but when we get back, I’m pulling!” Joe complained.

“Fine then, but only if you get the drinks out of the car. I’m not going in that stuffy limo again!” I replied.

“Okay, but only if you can beat me out there!” Joe responded.

As we ran out, I noticed our neighbors. One had long hair and one had short. But they were both the same strawberry-blonde color. The one with the long hair was smarter, he could tell. The one with the short hair was pretty cute, though. They were very different. I watched as they dropped a book on Nick’s head, fight with each other (I heard the names Madison and Destiny?), then walk out, only to appear out the front door minutes later. Nick handed one of them the book and made a joke. The cute one giggled and the smart one just took the book and went inside. I had to see the cute one up close. So, I walked over to them, but by the time I got there, she had dozed off thinking.

“Oh, hey, is this the new neighbor?” I asked Nick. He nodded then whispered, “Destiny.” So I said, “Hello? Do you copy? You’re sort of spacing out-Destiny, that’s your name, right?”

Then she returned to reality and responded, “Oh-hi, Kevin! Yeah, sorry, I was just thinking. And yeah, that’s most definitely my name. Hey, just wondering, would you boys like to come over for dinner sometime?”

“Sure!” I said, eager to get to know Destiny.

Okay people, I FINALLY edited all of this so it could make sense. I took out a ton of stuff and added a TON of stuff.

To clarify: I'm co-writing this with my BFF Nikki and we changed alot, and I posted the edited chapters that didn't make sense. So i took out some stuff and changed some names and took out the big chapter with Miley in it and all that Jazz. I'm changing the topic to "A Cinderella Story" and changing the chapters. The story is going to look MUCH better now. Thanks for bearing with me through this big makeover!

Love- Chelsea
