I don’t own Pokémon

Joe Dodgson sighed inwardly as he felt the water rushing through his long, sandy hair. He opened his eyes and smiled as he watched a group of Corsola playing in a near by coral reef through his goggles. He looked to his left to see a small, blue crocodile-like Pokémon swimming next to him. The two swam through the reefs, watching the many Corsola, Shellos and other coral-reef Water Pokémon. A star-like shaped darted past him. He grabbed a Pokeball from the belt on his swimming shorts and swam after the Pokémon with his Totodile in tow. The two caught up with the Staryu and Totodile leaped into action with a Slash attack. The Staryu fought back with Rapid Spin, but Totodile dodged and used Hydro Pump. Staryu was soon beat down and Joe lobbed his Pokeball, which span at high speed through the water and captured the Staryu! Joe smiled as Totodile brought the Pokeball back to its master and was then recalled. Joe swam up to the surface before making his way to the beach of Lilycove city. As the boy pulled himself out of the water he looked toward Lilycove Port to see a ferry going in to the harbor. Judging from the structure of the ferry he estimated it was from the Kanto Region.

“Come on out everyone!” he threw four Pokeballs into the air. Out of the Pokeballs popped four Water Pokémon. The Totodile and the newly captured Staryu stretched in the sunlight as the two other Pokémon materialized. The first one was the tough yet cool looking Poliwhirl, whom was followed by the cute orange weasel Pokémon known as Buizel. Staryu introduced itself to the other three Water Pokémon before the four turned to their master.

“Go and play guys, but make sure to come back soon. I’m going to check on our other Pokémon.” Joe walked away from the beach to the nearby hotel, the Cove Lily of Lilycove. The Cove Lily was owned by his parents, and was his family’s home. The people who lived and worked in his family’s hotel were his father, a tall man who had been a powerful Pokémon Trainer in the past and now served as both owner and manager of the Cove Lily. His mother was a beautiful and elegant woman who had once been a world famous Pokémon Coordinator who had heralded from the Region of Sinnoh where as his father was originally from the Johto Region. Along with his parents were his two older sisters, Emma and Alex. Emma was twenty three years old and was, like there father, a powerful Pokémon Trainer who specialized in Grass Pokémon. She had challenged the Johto League when the family had lived in Johto but unfortunately was knocked out of the first round of the Silver Conference. Currently Emma was challenging the Hoenn League but, after already earning six Badges, she was staying at the Cove Lily for a few days before catching a ferry to Mossdeep Island to challenge twin Gym Leaders Tate and Liza for her seventh Badge, the Mind Badge. Alex was twenty one and, unlike Emma and their parents, wasn’t a Trainer nor Coordinator. She was in fact training to become a Pokémon Ranger with her partner Pokémon, Pichu. She had been to the Pokémon Ranger School in Hoenn, which was in Ever Grand City, and was now completing her training in Lily Cove, where she would become a town Ranger before getting more important missions. At the bottom of the family chain left Joe. He mostly caught Water Pokémon, as they were his favorite type, but he did catch other Pokémon, like his Shinx and his Phanpy. He had a total of eight Pokémon so far. His starter Pokémon, Totodile, which he got in Johto, along with his Poliwhirl, the first Pokémon he ever caught, Buizel, which he had received as a present from his grandparents in Sinnoh. After he caught those three he managed to catch two Phanpy by accident and had managed to trade one of his Phanpy for a Shinx through the Global Trade Station. As well as these he had captured an Igglybuff, which are super rare in any Region other than Johto, and had also received a Mime Jr. from his cousin in Kanto, who had bred two Mr. Mime, and most recently he had captured Staryu. While he always took his Water Pokémon to play on the beach the other four members of his team seemed happier to help the rest of the family’s Pokémon working in the hotel, or Phanpy pretended to work as, being a Ground Pokémon, it was scared of water and the Water Pokémon who lived there.

“I’m back guys” Joe said as he walked into the back garden. Immediately all of the family’s Pokémon (the four he left here at the front of the mob) charged at him. The young boy suddenly found himself being attacked by many strong,

fully evolved Pokémon. The worst of which was his mother’s Empoleon. After wading through the mob and telling his Pokémon about capturing Staryu he walked into the hotel’s kitchen, where his mother was slowly stirring a pan of stew.

“Hi” Joe said, sneaking up behind her.

“AH!” his mother screamed, jumping out of her skin. “Oh, it’s just you, don’t scare me like that” she smiled. “How was your day at the beach?”

“I captured a new Staryu” Joe’s wide grin couldn’t be hidden.

“Congratulations.” His mother had specialized in Water Pokémon when she was a Coordinator in Sinnoh and had originally wanted Joe, who had always shown an interest in Water Pokémon and Coordinating, to start with a Piplup, the same Pokémon she had begun with. Unfortunately Professor Rowan had not been able to export a Piplup over to them in Blackthorn City at the time, so Joe and Emma had journeyed down to New Bark Town, where Emma had gotten her Chikorita, and Joe had got a Totodile.

“I left my Water Pokémon to play on the beach. I’ll take Mime Jr. and get them in five minutes” with that Joe called in Mime Jr. and Igglybuff, both of whom, like most Baby Pokémon, loved helping there Trainer, and the two humans and two Pokémon began whipping up a soup.

“Mime Jr.!” Joe called as he stirred the soup he was cooking. “Confusion attack, now!” Mime Jr. nodded as it copied Joe’s stirring pose and began glowing with a light blue aura. A few foot away from Mime Jr. a salt shaker also began glowing before floating over to Joe’s pan and shook out three shakes of salt before going back to its table.

“Igglybuff, please pass me some bay leaves” Joe’s mother said calmly. The cute, pink balloon Pokémon puffed up her body and floated up to the seasoning shelf and grabbed some bay leaves before floating back down to Joe’s mother. The four continued to work for another five minutes until Joe recalled the two Baby Pokémon and walked them down to the beach where the four Water Pokémon were waiting.

The next day Joe woke up at seven and walked down to the lobby of the hotel were his father and middle-child sister, Alex, were talking over the check-in desk.

“Hi guys, where is Emma?” Joe asked

“Left early this morning for Mossdeep” Alex said as Pichu came running up to her with Mime Jr., Igglybuff and Magby, one of Joe’s fathers Pokémon.

“Hi cuties” Joe said, scooping up his two Baby Pokémon while the other two were picked up by Alex.

“What are you two doing today?” Joe’s dad asked.

“Um, well I assumed we’d both be working” Joe said. “Yesterday a ferry from Kanto came in. Won’t this place be attacked by tourists and Coordinators?”

“Alakazam said it will be a slow day today” Joe’s dad smiled. “So you both go and do what you want.”

“Well I think I’ll go and revise. I’ve got my final exam before I get my license next week” Alex smiled, putting Pichu and Magby on the check-in desk. “You go and play with the other Pokémon today Pichu, okay?”

“Pi!” Pichu smiled before running of with Magby.

“I might take some of the Pokémon into town.” Joe smiled at his two Babies before walking into the back garden and letting out a shrill whistle, instantly summoning his other six Pokémon.

“I’m taking Mime Jr. and Igglybuff into town today, which means four of you, can come and two of you have to stay.”

Both Poliwhirl and Shinx yawned before stretching out on the grass, clearly not prepared to move an inch. With that Joe put Totodile, Phanpy, Staryu, Buizel, Mime Jr. and Igglybuff into there Pokeballs before he walked off into town.

“I think I need a new outfit” he said to himself as he walked past a boutique. He hardly ever spent his wages so had a lot more money than his sisters. He walked into the boutique and quickly picked out an outfit and looked at himself in the mirror. He was dressed in frayed blue jeans that had rips across the knees. He also had a black belt with a skull in the middle as well as a frayed black top which showed red and white underneath the frayed parts. To top it off he had two black fingerless gloves, and a black jacket. “I’d like to buy this please” Joe smiled at the brown haired female receptionist.

“That will be four hundred Poke.” Joe paid her with a smile before walking out muttering ‘outrageous’ under his breath. After walking aimlessly around town he found himself outside of the Lilycove Contest Hall.

“I suppose it won’t kill me just to peek in” he stepped into the large hall and walked to the open ring, where the MC was chatting with a teen who Joe had seen on the ferry from Kanto. He had short, black hair and tanned skin with dark olive eyes. He was dressed in black drainpipes and a black, long sleeved top. He had six Pokeballs attached to his black belt.

“Oh, hello!” the MC said, noticing Joe out of the corner of her eye. “I’ve seen you before! You train your Water Pokémon on the beach!”

“Hi” Joe said shyly, walking up onto the stage. “Wow. It must be amazing to stand up on this stage all of the time.”

“It is” the MC said. “But I’m sure the Coordinators and their Pokémon have more fun than me. That’s what I was explaining to this boy here”

“Hi” the boy said. “My name’s Myer. I just moved here from Kanto with my mother”

“I’m Joe” Joe smiled, shaking hands with the boy. “My parents own the Cove Lily of Lilycove.”

“I here you get the best meals in Hoenn there” Myer said.

“Thank you” Joe smiled. “My mother and I cook them. Of course we couldn’t do it without the help of our Pokémon. It’s mainly these two who help me though!” he chucked two Pokeballs into the air and Mime Jr. and Igglybuff both happily floated to the ground.

“Oh wow!” Myer said. “Those two are super rare! I hear you can only catch Mime Jr. in Sinnoh and Igglybuff in Johto!”

“My cousin from Kanto gave me that Mime Jr., he bred it from two Mr. Mimes, and I got the Igglybuff when I was walking around Lilycove port. It must have jumped on a ship from Olivine City.”

“The way you sent those two out” the MC said “You would make a pretty good Coordinator. Have you ever tried?”

“I’ve always wanted to try Coordinating but never actually entered a Contest. My mother won the Ribbon Cup in Sinnoh”

“There is a Contest today” the MC said. “I think the two of you should enter it.”

“I’m more of a Pokémon battler” Myer said.

“One of the main parts of Contests is battling.” The MC said. “Just try, trust me it will be fun. Get a Contest Pass from the desk and register for today’s Contest.”

“Okay, we will” Joe said. “Thank you, uh…”

“My name is Lillian” the MC smiled. “My family is like the families of Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny. There is one of us at every Contest”

“See you later then Lillian” Myer waved and the two boys walked out.

Later, after getting Contest Passes and registering, the two boys can be seen practicing routines in a field.

“I’m going to use Mime Jr. for the appeals!” Joe smiled chucking his Pokeball into the air. “And Phanpy for the Battle Round!” Phanpy landed next to its Psychic teammate.

“If you’re telling me, then I’ll tell you” Myer smiled, taking out two Pokeballs. “For the appeals I’ll use Riolu!” the small, blue dog-like Pokémon popped out.

“Wow! Those are native to Sinnoh!” Joe smiled.

“I got it through the Global Trade Station” Myer smiled. “And for the Battle Round I’ll use my Starter Pokémon, Charmeleon!” the red fire lizard snarled at the new stranger. “Easy Charmeleon, he’s a friend”

“You’re Charmeleon is cool. My starter Pokémon, Totodile, hasn’t evolved yet.”

“I suppose we should get practicing then” Myer said.

“How about a practice battle first?” Joe asked, taking a different Pokeball from his belt.

“Sounds like fun” Myer said, also taking a new Pokeball from his belt. Both of them released their Pokémon, Joe calling on Totodile and Myer calling on Corphish. “I only just caught this Corphish on the ferry on the way here, so let’s see what it can do” the four other Pokémon who were to be used in the Contest quickly scurried to the sidelines.

“Totodile, use Slash!” Totodile leaped at the Corphish with it’s claws ready but Corphish countered with Protect.

“Now! Hit it with Bubblebeam!” a few seconds after the green energy shield vanished many multicoloured bubbles fired in a steady stream from Corphish’s pincers, knocking Totodile back a few foot before it fought back.

“Use Hydro Pump to fight off the Bubblebeam, and then use Water Gun!” A powerful jet of water burst out of Totodile’s mouth and managed to get rid off Bubblebeam before a less powerful stream of water smacked into Corphish. Corphish ran in for a Crab Hammer attack while Totodile also ran toward Corphish with a Slash ready. The two Pokémon collided, both taking heavy damage.

“Swift, NOW!” Joe yelled, Totodile turned and fired many stinging stars from its mouth and slammed into Corphish. Corphish tried to recover but was too weak and it fainted.

“Return” Myer muttered, recalling his crab Pokémon. “You sure your not a Trainer?”

“Well it does run in my family” Joe smiled, recalling Totodile. “Now let’s get to practicing.”

Later that night the family had left the hotel in Rick, the night manager’s charge while they went to the Contest Hall. “I hope he does okay” Alex said as Pichu squirmed in her lap as the names of the Coordinators who were competing.

“Alex!” Mick, Joe’s father, chided Alex as her PokeNav started beeping. “You’ll have to turn that off once the appeals start!”

“I know, I know” Alex said. “Hello?”

“It’s Emma”

“Hi Emma”

“I’m in the Mossdeep Pokemon Centre, they just put the TV on the Contest Channel, is it true that Joe is taking part in a Contest?”

“Yeah, we’re in the stands now”

“How did Dad ever let him do it?”

“He just signed up by himself and told us when he got back. Mum is really excited and Dad, well, he seems okay, for now.” Mick watched the stage in apprehension, absent-mindedly stroking Pichu’s head to sooth the Baby Pokémon and grabbing his wife’s hand.

Joe and Myer were both sat in the locker room with about thirty-eight other Coordinators. Joe had Mime Jr. on his lap while he tied a cute blue ribbon onto Mime Jr.’s cute hat-like head while Myer had Riolu on his own lap, but instead of giving him a bow or ribbon like Joe he was putting a cute pair of mini boxing gloves on the small Fighting type’s hands. The Coordinators all looked at the large TV screen in the locker room to see Lillian, who was dressed in a fabulously sparkly red dress, walking onto the stage with a microphone in her hand.

“Hello Contest fans!” Lillian said into the mike “Welcome to the lovely Lilycove Pokémon Contest Hall!” A loud cheer roared through the stadium. “Before our Contest gets underway I have a few people to introduce, first, our judges!!” the spot light shone on them. “Mr. Contesta! Mr. Sukizo and Lilycove City’s own Nurse Joy!” the three judges all gave a small introduction before the spotlight flew through the crowd and landed on Joe’s mother! “And we have a VERY special guest today, the Queen of Contests, the Champion of the Grand Festivals in Sinnoh, Kanto and Johto! Ladies and gentlemen, give it up for Diane Dodgson! Or as she was known in her Coordinating days, Diane Smith!” Joe’s mother, Diane, blushed slightly before standing up and bowing. “It may be an interest for you to know that her daughter, Emma Dodgson, is currently challenging the Hoenn League and is two Badges away from entering Ever Grand City and her son, Joe Dodgson, is competing in his first ever Contest today! Speaking of which, first up is Joe Dodgson and his Mime Jr.!” Joe stepped onto the stage with Mime Jr. on his shoulder as a guitar rift started playing over the speakers, followed by intense battle music.

“Here we go” he whispered. “Mime Jr.! Use Bounce attack!” Mime Jr. jumped off of Joe’s shoulder, bouncing once on the stage before leaping high into the air. “Now combine Psychic with Swift!” Mime Jr. let out a short cry before it released many stinging stars. Mime Jr. was then covered in a blue aura and used the aura to take control of the stars. Mime Jr. landed on one of the stars and made the others crash together, creating a sparkling golden shower as Mime Jr. happily danced on its spinning star.

“Excellent! Coordinating MUST run in the family!” Lillian said as Mime Jr. rode the star down to the floor before leaping off of it and making the star explode. “But only the judges really know”

“I think that round of appeals was amazing for someone partaking in his first Contest, and considering you were using a Baby Pokémon, which are harder to control in Contests than a fully evolved Pokémon, I think you deserve to win tonight’s Ribbon. Congratulations” Mr. Contesta smiled.

“It was REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEMARKABLE” Mr. Sukizo said.

“A great combination of power and cuteness” Nurse Joy grinned. “Very well done” Joe could only smile as he and Mime Jr. walked off of the stage. Myer and the other Coordinators put on an amazing show of appeals that made Joe and, obviously, Mime Jr. feel they were going to be kicked out of the Contest. Finally it came to the naming of the four Coordinators who would be progressing into the Battle Round.

“Here it is” Lillian said. “The four Coordinators, in this order, who gained enough points to move on are…Mira Senoid!” a picture of the pretty girl with curly brown hair appeared on screen “Samantha Stones” a girl with long blonde hair with two pink highlights appeared next to Mira Senoid “Myer Wogan!” Myer’s face appeared next to Samantha “And finally, our last finalist, Joe Dodgson!” Joe’s face appeared, making the family all sigh in relief. “Our four finalists will begin the Contest Battle rounds in fifteen minutes. Please go and buy yourself some more snacks or if your family members are in the Contest go and give them so support. See ya next round!” with that Lillian walked off stage.

“Nice work!” Alex said, hugging her brother and partially crushing Mime Jr. and Pichu. “You did great, who are you using in the Contest Battles?”

“Phanpy” Joe smiled as the cute Ground Pokémon walked up.

“Are you sure?” Diane asked “I don’t think Phanpy is very Contest compatible. It’s more of a battler than an impresser.”

“I’m confidant that Phanpy can do it” Joe smiled. The family talked for a little while longer before a loud buzzer went off.

“All Coordinators competing in the Contest Battle round please proceed to the stage area.”

“Mum” Joe said before he and Phanpy set off. “Can you hold onto Mime Jr. for me please?”

“Of course” Diane took Mime Jr. from Joe and the family made their way to the stands while Joe and Phanpy walked to the stage area.

“Okay!” Lillian smiled as she stood in the center of the huge Pokeball pattern on the stage. “Our first battlers are Myer Wogan and Samantha Stones!” Myer and his Charmeleon walked out from one end of the stage while Samantha and her Pokémon, a Medicham, walked out from the other end. As soon as the two Coordinators were on opposite ends of the large Pokeball a bell went off. “Begin!” Lillian shouted as she ran to the table of judges to get out of the way.

“Charmeleon, use Slash!” Charmeleon ran at Medicham with its left claw up in the air.

“Counter Medicham” Samantha said calmly. Medicham was covered in a red aura a few seconds before Charmeleon hit it. This caused Charmeleon’s attack to reverse and hit itself in the chest. On the large screen, the bar of points underneath Myer’s picture went down a few points, but stayed green.

“Charmeleon, she can’t use Counter to block a special attack. Use Flamethrower!” Charmeleon fired a steady stream of flames from its mouth at Medicham.

“Psychic Medicham!” the Fighting/Psychic Pokémon began to glow with blue energy. As soon as the Flamethrower got close to Medicham the Fire type attack was also covered in blue energy, making the stream of fire bend and twist before exploding. “Now Medicham, stand your ground!”

“Fire Punch!”

“Counter”

“Ember!!”

“Psychic!”

“Flamethrower!!”“Psychic once more!” this series of offensive and defensive attacks continued.

“Oh, look at that!” Lillian said. Samantha had lost half of her points!

“How did that happen?!” Samantha asked.

“Because Samantha used the same attacks over and over again to do the same thing she lost points!” Lillian announced. Diane chuckled from the stands; this caused Mime Jr., who was sat on her lap, to chuckle as well.

“Such an amateur mistake” she said.

“Okay, on the offensive Medicham! Use High Jump Kick!” Medicham leaped into the air before diving at Charmeleon.

“Charmeleon, if you dodge her attack then she will lose more points and Medicham will be hurt” Charmeleon nodded and stood its ground until Medicham was a few foot away. “NOW!” Myer yelled, Charmeleon quickly ducked and Medicham flew over its head, crashing into the stands behind them.

“And that’s the game!” Lillian yelled. “Samantha ran out of points, the winners are Myer and Charmeleon!” a picture of

Myer and Charmeleon appeared on the screen. “Our next battlers are Mire Senoid and Joe Dodgson, please proceed to the main stage” Joe and his Phanpy and Mira and her Pokémon, a Togepi. “Begin!”

“Star with Rollout!” Mira shouted. Togepi tucked itself into its shell and started rolling toward Phanpy.

“Counter attack with a Rollout of your own!” Phanpy copied Togepi’s attack, the two Pokémon colliding in the centre of the Pokeball before Phanpy, who was obviously stronger, pushed Togepi out of its way.

“Togepi, use Metronome!” Togepi started waving its tiny hands back and forth as blue energy started to gather around it.

“This could be risky” Lillian said into the now silent stadium “This move could either win or lose the match for Mira” Mira absently brushed a brown lock out of her face as Togepi continued to wave its hands. Finally Togepi stopped. For a few seconds nothing happened, until Togepi began to charge with yellow energy for a few seconds and then released a huge electrical blast from its tiny body. “Oh! Togepi’s attack turned into a Thunder!” Phanpy was hit full on by the attack but the brave little elephant Pokémon stood its ground, wincing only slightly. “Looks like Mira will lose some points for that, Phanpy didn’t feel a thing thanks to its Ground type!” Mira lost more points, knocking her bar into the yellow area.

“Phanpy, use Hidden Power!” several orbs of energy formed in a circle around Phanpy, they span around the small Pokémon for a few seconds before each firing off a powerful energy beam, all hitting Togepi head on! The small Spike Egg Pokémon tumbled over after being hit by the attack and began bawling, running to its Trainer and hiding behind her leg. The three judges each pressed a button on their table and three, big red X appeared on their screens.

“As has been said before in this Contest” Mr. Contesta began “Baby Pokémon are extremely difficult to both train AND coordinate. This is a prime example”

“Not remarkable at all” Mr. Sukizo put it.

“That Togepi needs to learn how to keep composed when its hit with a powerful attack like Hidden Power” Nurse Joy finished.

“There you have it!” Lillian said. “Our two finalists are Myer Wogan and his Charmeleon and Joe Dodgson and his Phanpy. The finals of the Lilycove City Pokémon Contest will begin in half an hour. Be sure to get to the stadium on time!”

“Your battle was great” Myer said as he, with Riolu on his shoulder and Charmeleon by his side, walked up to Joe and his family in the locker room. “It had the three of us on the edges of our seats.”

“Thanks” Joe smiled “I was really worried about that Medicham’s defensive strategy, I thought she had Charmeleon beat”

“Not quiet. But I hope I won’t be defeating you by a technicality” Myer smirked, getting a smirk back from Joe that only the most extreme of Pokémon Trainers and Coordinators could understand.

“Save it for the Contest Hall” Diane said, pulling the two apart. “Hi by the way”

“You’re Diane Smith!” Myer said, grabbing her hand. “My sister is a big fan! She has all of your Grand Festival matches on tape! By trade I’m a Pokémon Trainer but after watching you in Kanto Grand Festival I really wanted to try my hand at Contests and then when my family moved here to Lilycove I couldn’t resist trying.”

“Thank you” Diane smiled. “Did your sister take part in this Contest?”

“No” Myer replied “She hasn’t gotten her first Pokémon yet, which is partially why we moved to Hoenn, so she could get a Treecko”

“My oldest started with a grass Pokémon, Chikorita, and when we moved here to Hoenn she caught a Treecko” Mick said.

“Oh! I know you! You’re Mick Dodgson!” Myer (almost) squealed. “I’ve got all of your Pokémon League matches on tape!”

“Well, I wasn’t that good” Mick said.

“Tell that to the four Pokémon League trophies on in the hotel trophy case” Alex said.

“Next to the ONE Ribbon Cup” Joe said.

“Yeah, why didn’t you tell us you won more than just the Sinnoh Grand Festival? And where are the other two Ribbon Cups?” Alex asked.

“I tried to keep it a secret” Diane said. “The only reason the Sinnoh Ribbon Cup is in the trophy case is because your father insisted on me putting at least one up and it was the one from my home Region.” As the family and Myer were talking a small girl with long, black hair, tanned skin and a flowery pink dress ran up to Myer.

“Myer!” she said in a Kanto accent, although not as thick as Myer’s. “You and Riolu and Charmeleon were brilliant” Riolu leaped from Myer’s shoulder and landed on the girls head.

“Thanks Taelia” Myer said. “Everyone, this is my sister Taelia, she’s the one who REALLY loves Coordinating and Taelia, this is Diane Smith” Taelia looked up at Diane with pure adoration in her eyes.

“Actually, I’m Diane Dodgson now” Diane said.

“Wow” was about all Taelia could muster. “Please, can I shake your hand?”

“Of course” Diane smiled and shook the girl’s hand. It had been quiet a few years since she had to put up with adoring fans as not many people recognized her now that she was married and a mother.

“Do you still use your super cool Empoleon?” Taelia asked.

“Well the most all of my Pokémon do now a days is help around the house and hotel but I do have Empoleon with me now” Diane smiled, taking a Pokeball out of her brown hand bag and pressing the button, releasing her oldest Pokémon. Empoleon stretched and looked around with a sparkle in her eyes, instantly recognizing the locker room of a Contest Hall. “Sorry Empoleon, this isn’t our Contest, it’s Joe’s” Empoleon looked at her master son and two Pokémon with an approving, almost motherly look, before turning to face the two strangers. “Empoleon, this is Taelia; she’s a very big fan of you” Empoleon waddled over to the small girl and picked her up with one fin. The two females stared each other down for a few seconds until Empoleon put the small girl down and affectionately picked her ear. “Empoleon, why don’t you take Taelia and play with her outside?”

“Take Pichu with you as well” Alex said, handing Taelia her partner Pokémon.

“Mime Jr. can play as well” Mime Jr. quickly looked from its Trainer and Taelia before jumping for joy and waddling over to the tiny crowd of people in an Empoleon style.

“You know you want to Riolu” Riolu happily followed Taelia, Empoleon, Pichu and Mime Jr. outside to play.

“Are you ready for the battle, Phanpy?” Joe asked. Phanpy nodded enthusiastically before something happened. Phanpy had begun to glow! “Mum! What’s happening to Phanpy?!”

“The same thing that happened to your Poliwag.” Diane smiled.

“It’s evolving son” Mick said. “Into a…”

“DONPHAN!” the newly evolved Pokémon cried. Donphan was quiet bigger than Phanpy and much different looking, the red armor like parts that decorated Phanpy’s nose and back had changed into a full suit of dark grey armor. Donphan’s trunk had become longer and was covered completely in the armor as well as it had two large tusks on either side of its trunk. Its skin underneath its armor however, was still the same shade of blue.

“Oh! Donphan!” Joe said happily. “Now it looks like we will be even in the final” he smiled at Myer and Charmeleon.

“Don’t count on it” Myer smiled “Just because your Pokémon evolved and its has a resistance to Fire doesn’t mean it will be able to win against my Charmeleon”

“We’ll see” Mick said eagerly. “In one of my Gym Battles against a Gym Leader in this Region, Flannery, I used a Golem to fight her Torkoal and she beat me. Let’s see if it will happen again here”

“Dad” Alex said. “I thought you didn’t approve of your kids going in Contests, why are you so eager for this one?”

“A battle is a battle” Mick said. “Plus, I’m sure it’s the only one Joe is going to take part in. He’ll become a tough Trainer like Emma and Myer” Joe looked away as the buzzer went off.

“Myer Wogan and Joe Dodgson, please get to the stage immediately for you final Contest Battle!” Joe and Myer locked eyes once again before leaving the locker room without saying a word.

Outside the Contest Hall Taelia was playing with Empoleon and the other Pokémon when the big screen that was outside the Contest Hall turned on, revealing the start of the battle.

“Who are the finalists?” a stranger walked up to Taelia and asked. The stranger seemed a little bit older than her brother and the other boy; she was dressed in a black tank top with black pants and a red skirt over the pants and a black belt over the skirt. On her arms she had many multicoloured bands and one; fingerless black glove and she had long, pink hair with black streaks.

“My brother, Myer Wogan, and some person called JoJo I think” she looked to Mime Jr., who used its psychic powers to tell her his name “I mean Joe Dodgson!” the older teen looked up at the screen with a mystified look in her eyes, which were very strange as her irises were completely black, making it seem as if she just had two huge pupils.

“How interesting” she said. “I wonder who will win” Empoleon watched the stranger carefully, noticing the many different varieties of Pokeball on her belt and the strange insignia on the front of it…

Extra long chapter because it’s the first one of the story, and the first ever as a Pokémon Fan Fic. So what do you think of Coordinators Legacy? I’m so mean leaving it on the edge with Phanpy evolving and this new stranger approaching Taelia, who is she? Why is Empoleon wary of her? All this and more in the next Episode of…COORDINATORS LEGACY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

R&R or feel the wrath of Phanpy’s…I mean Donphan’s, Hidden Power! And it WILL make you cry like Togepi
