Chapter 1 Life before you Appeared
Lizze’s POV
“Thank You Dr. Bennett,” said a smiling young 6-year old boy with 2 front teeth missing and bruises on his arm.
“You’re very very welcome, Brian. I will see you again really soon I'm sure. It is always nice to see you and Brian again,” I smiled as I kissed the cheek of young boy.
"Yes well my boy seems to have taken a liking to you Dr. Bennett, and that’s a first. He never liked doctors in general before you. And yes I'm sure we will see you again really soon," Mrs. David said with a small chuckle. I laughed in return. I smiled as the boy and his mom left the hospital. “Hey Jill,” I asked my friend who works as a nurse at the hospital, “anyone else I can help?”
“Yeh,” she answered. “I need to check on Mrs. Johnson on 9th tower, while you were with Brian, the nurse on her floor called because apparently Mrs. Johnson was experiencing extreme pain and a rash formed around her surgical wound and they need you to verify her new prescription and dosage and talk to her,” she said. I gave my thanks and walked to the elevator, and went up. Being a trauma surgeon resident is very tiring but it is all worth it for me, I love helping people. Before my mom and my dad died, my mom was a nurse and my dad was a doctor. And when I was little, I would to go to the hospital all the time with them. I would usually stay with mom and I loved how she made people feel so much better. They were my inspiration for following their steps and being a doctor.
I glanced at the clock, 8:00, my shift was over by 7:00, but I always run late because either I caught late with a patient or most of the time, I’m trying to keep up on my charts. “Anything else, Jill,” I asked. She replied no and so I went into the locker room, changed out of my scrubs, got my bag and hit the road to go home.
Half an hour later, I just walked into mine and my cousin, Jane’s condo on Riverside Blvd. Jane is a fashion designer who works for Vera Wang at their headquarters right here in New York City. We both live in NYC, I work at the NYU Medical Center on 1st Ave. and Jane’s workplace is on the 225 W 39th Street. Uncle Tom said he would let us, if we lived together. Of course we said yes.
“In here, Lizze, I just got home, and reheating yesterday’s dinner,” I followed her voice into the dining room and sat down. “So how was your day?”
“My day was same old same old. Brian came in again. Boy, that boy gets hurt a lot. Anyway, how was your day today since you look even happier than usually? Wait is that even possible?” I finished with a smirk on my face.
“Ha-ha Lizze, that's not funny. And you know what, I think that Brian has a little crush on you, that’s why he comes to see you over and over again," as she said that, I stuck my tongue out at her like a little five-year old. "Anyway, my day was fantastic; Mrs. Wang came in today and told us the best news ever. She told us, that one of her friends from England, who is also in the fashion world, is coming to New York to see how their branch is doing and they are also interviewing some potential employees. And the company is Bingley Family Fashion Line. They’re a HUGE fashion company in Europe. This company has given stardom to some of the world greatest designers.” But then she looked up and had a finger on her chin thinking about something. “But I’m not sure who is coming. They are coming next week or something,” she finished excitedly with pure joy and anxiously in her eyes. I smiled at her, being a fashion designer has always been Jane’s dream career and I will say she has a talent for fashion; she designed and made all her dresses (and mine) when we were in high school and college.
Later that night, when I was in my bed and rereading one of my favorite books, Jane Eyre, Jane knocked (ironic isn’t it?). “Lizze, I forgot to tell you. This weekend, we need to go back home. You know Kathy’s friend Charlotte Lucas. Well, the Lucas’ Family is having their annual Summer Gala. Well this year it’s on August 2nd a Saturday and they invited us to go. I said we love to go. So can you ask if you can leave work around 3 to 4 on Friday so we can reach Rochester before 10?” she asked me with her cute innocent look, and I never could not say no.
“Sure why not, I guess I could use a break. I’ll ask, okay?” she nodded and left. About an hour later, I decided to get to sleep.
Will’s POV
“I enjoyed doing business with you men. I hope you have a wonderful evening,” I had just finished my last meeting of the day. This meeting was for a new branch that we were setting up in Hong Kong and still some little details needed to be done.
Running a top finance company is a tough job, especially for a CEO. Luckily, I know how to do my job and I thrive to improve and expand my company. Being only 28 years old and running a multi-billion (and maybe a trillion dollar) worth company at a young age, everyone knows you. They print my face and have multiply interview with me in all top tabloids as one of the new and fresh faces for business today, putting me public eye always; it doesn’t help that I come from a very old and elite family, we also hold a title of a Lord. But that also means, the women always try to come onto me, they all want my money and status, all of them are gold-diggers. Sure from time to time, I bring one with me but it’s for one night, nothing else. I sometimes wonder why was I born in such a high class family and blessed with such good looks but then again I’m thankful what I have. Unlike everyone else, I thought with a smirk on my face. People might say I’m arrogant and egotistical but I like who I am and am proud of the manners and the good principles I was brought up upon.
As I walk into my home here in London, I hear the sound of cars crashing in a video game. I immediately know that Charlie has stopped by to “visit.” I say “visit” because it is almost like he lives here, which he is most invited to live here with me, my sister Georgie and my cousin James. I mean who would want to live in a house with his sister Caroline? I didn't see Georgie so I figured she was in her room.
“Hey Will,” James and Charlie both say in unison as they continue to play the video game.
“Hi,” I reply back. “Hey Charlie, would you care to stay with us for dinner?” I ask, even though I know the answer will be yes.
“You know, that when you’re asking I can’t say no, so yes I will care to have dinner with you two,” he replied with the same sarcasm I had in my voice.
Dinner was interesting, me and Georgie were very amused between the arguing my cousin and Charlie to see who won the game. I sat there just smiling at them while Georgie was laughing her head off. As I freshened up for bed, the phone rang, “Hey Will, its Charlie,” a voice said as I picked up the phone.
“Hey, forgot something” I ask.
“Actually, yes, I forgot to tell you something. My parents want you to come with me, Caroline, and my parents to New York,” he said the last part a little uncertainty.
“I really don’t wish to go…” I started. “You should ask Georgiana if she wants to go to, she can take my place,” I said. “You know I despise the nation so why bother asking.” Rolling my eyes.
“Well actually you can’t decide, my parents said you’re going and you’re going. My parents asked Georgie already though. And she said that she was going to travel around Europe. She told us that you gave her that as her graduation present. So, sorry mate but you have to come. Oh but I’m not sure about Caroline, I think dad and mum might make her stay here and work. That might be a plus, think about it. And also think about it now, you have an opportunity to meet some Yankees and really think about if you really despise America or not. Come on, go to keep me company please, mate,” he was bribing and begging me to go. I had forgotten that Georgie was traveling this summer. Oh god, now I am stuck with this trip.
“Fine I’ll go but I’m keeping my distance. As much I love and respect your parents but really why in the world would they want me to go?” I replied bitterly.
“Because they love you too and think of you as one of their second children. That’s why. Oh my parents own a house in a quiet town called Rochester, Monroe County, in New York and we will stay there until Thanksgiving,” Charlie added very quickly, hoping I would miss that information but he was wrong.
“What!” I yelled on the phone. “Are you out of your mind? I have work. I can’t just abandon a multi-billion dollar corporate just so I can go on vacation!”
“Well that where you are wrong. You are on vacation starting the starting Monday until November. We talked it out with all your top executives and during you absence, James is taking over for you. I talked it all out. See now you are stuck with this trip. Talk to you tomorrow and we leave this Wednesday. Bye,” he said that with a smirk forming on his face. I snapped shut the phone angrily.
