I Want to See You Dance.
a mimiga story.
--
"Kiiiiing!"
Was there ever a day that didn't start with that? The young mimiga nearly fell out of his hammock bed when the shrill message came through his open window. Catching himself swiftly, King stood up and stretched. Drowsily looking up, he replied, "It had better be worth it this time Map-" His own voice was drowned out by yet another call from outside. "Wake up in there!" Sighing inwardly, the mimiga glanced about his house quickly. He spotted his overcoat and threw it over his lanky shoulders hastily, while padding towards the door. Pushing that aside, King drew in a short breath of the air. Mildew. He wriggled his nose in response; not a new smell, but not really a pleasant one, either.
Standing a small space away from his door was another mimiga. Similar in size and shape to him, but carrying an entirely different attitude. "King! You actually came out this time!" This one was slightly younger than King, but around the same height. King averted his view from the cavernous roof to the persistent other. Looking him over quickly reassured King that Mapuru was no different than yesterday. Or any other day that he had woken him up.. The right side of Mapuru's head was covered in a thick layer of bandages, an apparent trophy of a previous eye injury. A coat strangely similar to King's was untidily hung around the mimiga's neck, adorned below his chin with a plate that read "002". As often as King had seen this person, was probably equal to how irritating he was. Momentarily being distracted by his inspection, Mapuru had the idea King was ignoring him. "Did you forget how to talk..?" King jerked upwards slightly, realizing that he had been staring. "No, I haven't. Have you forgotten that some of us actually sleep?" A small bit of guilt swept across Mapuru's features. "Nevermind. What was it, that was so important?" The shame soon fading from his face, the younger mimiga quickly piped up. "Yeah yeah, about that! It's about Jack!" Jack. King knew him better than anyone else, even though that often led to certain indecent rumours spreading about.. He was the village's guardsman, in charge of protecting entrances and exits. Fond thoughts temporarily filled King's mind, but he intentionally dispelled them. "What's with Jack?" Bowing twice, Mapuru began pointing towards the passage that led to the village reservoir. "It's over there, King, Jack found something in the reservoir.." Eyeing the excitable mimiga once more, King lightly nodded and headed towards where he had been pointing.
