Hey everyone! I know it’s been a while since I last posted something. I’ve got lots of unfinished stories floating around my room and I’ve been super busy with work and summative assignments. But, today is a snow day (ice, snow and wind… a wonderful combination! J) so I thought I’d post one of the one- shots I actually have finished.

So here it is, tell me if you like it, hate it, or whatever.

“Danny. . . Danny!” Lindsay called out frantically, searching for him. But no answer came. The crime scene was a mess, complete chaos.

Uniforms covered every inch. Yellow tap was up around the perimeter to prevent pedestrians and on-lookers from getting to close. It was crazy and unbelievable. Police officers were talking on their radios and the crackling responses mixed with the running engines of the squad cars and people yelling out demands, made everything ten times louder.

Lindsay had dropped everything when she heard it though the scanner. Shots fired at 1045 Robinson street. That was Danny’s crime scene. It was supposed to be an “easy break and enter” as Mac had put it. But the intruder was still in the house… and shots were fired.

Getting into her car and pounding on the gas pedal, Lindsay bee-lined it straight to the fourteen storey high apartment building, almost running two reds lights and a little elderly lady crossing the street in her motorized scooter. People in the vehicles were yelling and cursing at her, but Lindsay couldn’t have cared less. She had to make sure he was okay.

They weren’t even dating. But Lindsay’s feelings for Danny ran deeper than friendship. Everybody knew, it was obvious. Yet, neither of them had made any attempt to act on their feelings. Sure they had gone out a couple times together after work, for drinks, but that was it. Still, Danny had always been there for her… and now it was her turn.

Slamming on the brakes, the car screeched as she came to a stop in front of the building. The apartment building had obviously been evacuated as people were standing outside. Some were in their pyjamas, even though it was nearly one o’clock in the afternoon. Others were hanging onto their cats and dogs and the odd person even had a bird cage tucked under their arm.

Weaving through the crowd of people, Lindsay pushed and elbowed her way to the front of the crowd calling his name anxiously, needing to see him. It was only when, the rather large woman in front of her had moved, that Lindsay finally caught sight of him. He was sitting in the back of an ambulance, eyes closed, the paramedic working on him.

Not even stopping to think about what she was doing, Lindsay yelled his name and tried to slip underneath the crime scene tape. Unfortunately, she was stopped by a uniformed police officer grabbing a hold of her arm.

“I’m sorry miss,” The tall, burly cop spoke in a clam but firm voice. “But you can’t go over there.” And he tried to move her back away from the edge of the yellow tape.

But Lindsay wasn’t having any of it. She unclipped her badge from her belt and thrust it in the officer’s face. “I’m from the crime lab.” She wriggled out of the police officer’s grip and ducked under the tape.

Danny, who had been lying on a gurney while the paramedic patched him up, sat straight when he heard his name being called. He looked around frantically for her , having recognized the voice right away.

Then, he seen her. He saw the worry, the relief on her face as she began to practically run toward him. With his shirt unbuttoned, Danny moved off of the gurney and stood just as Lindsay came within a few feet of him.

She stopped a couple of feet away from him, and for a few seconds, they just stared at each other. Danny’s face was red and blotchy, no doubt from the stress, panic and adrenaline that had been coursing through him just over an hour ago. There was a rather large white bandage wrapped around his mid section and the middle finger on his right hand was in a splint.

Lindsay had been so caught up, the her actions of the last half hour were beginning to creep up on her. The embarrassment of what she had done was starting to show when Danny’s face broke into a small smile and he opened his arms.

Finally, Lindsay took those last two strides and flung herself into his arms. Holding him tight around his neck, Danny’s arms held her waist.

Her sobs were muffled by his shoulder, and despite the noise around them, he heard them. “It’s okay,” he soothed, speaking into her hair. “I’m okay Linds. Everything is fine.” He kissed the top of her head and rubbed her back.

When she pulled back to look at him, Danny saw more clearly the fear of him being injured and the relief of him being okay etched in her eyes, on her face. “It’s all over Lindsay. Everybody is okay… I’m okay.”

Her eyes travelled from his eyes down to his chest, where the large white bandage covered almost all of his whole right side, just above his waist. The wrapping was big, but it didn’t cover the bruising that was beginning to form around the wound.

She touched it gingerly, careful not to hurt him. “What happened, Danny?” She asked in a whisper, moving her eyes back to his face. She looked confused and worried. “I heard over the scanner that the intruder was still inside and began shoot-”

“Shh, Montana.” He quietened her with a finger to her lips and smiled. “It’s just a graze. Hardly even a scratch.”

“I heard Flack’s voice over the scanner, he was calling for back up and then there were shots in the background. I don’t . . I knew. . . I just-”

Brushing a piece of hair out of her eyes, Danny stopped her rambling. “I get it Montana.” He smiled at her and pulled her in for another hug.

But Lindsay didn’t want a hug. She ducked her head and captured his lips in a soft kiss. At first, Danny’s eyes had widened in shock, but then he sank into the kiss, drawing Lindsay closer to him.

“Excuse me sir.” Danny pulled away to find one of the paramedics standing off to the side with a clipboard and pen in his hand. “I need you to sign this before you can go.”

Danny quickly signed the piece of paper stating that the paramedics in no way, shape, or form, forced him to take any unwanted medication or provided unwanted treatment. He then buttoned up his shirt and looked over at Lindsay, who was wiping away a few stray tears.

But nonetheless, she smiled at him and when he smiled back and took her hand, she knew that Danny was someone special. He wasn’t just another one of ‘the guys’. He was completely and totally the opposite.

“Are you sure you’re okay, Danny? I can take you to the hospital if you want . . .”

“I’m fine, Montana.” He took her hands in his and once again pulled her close so that their noses were touching. “ But you can do one thing for me.” He grinned cheekily at her.

“What’s that, Cowboy?” She asked, smiling herself.

“You can explain to Mac and the others why we are in such a compromising position.” When Lindsay looked at him in confusion, Danny pointed over her shoulder.

Lindsay turned around, and with her face turning several shade of red, she took in the smirk of Stella Bonasera, the confusion on Flack’s face and the surprisingly neutral expression in Mac Taylor’s eyes.

She turned back to Danny, smiling. “I think they already know.”

Gently kissing her forehead before releasing her, Danny and Lindsay made their way over to their team mates.

Lindsay was, for once in her life, happy that she decided to act upon impulse. Sometimes, following our heart instead of your brain was the more logical thing to do.
