Hi! This has nothing to do with anything, just a random one-shot I thought up and decided to write. It’s a songfic around ‘How to save a life’ by the Fray. It’s completely random, and very sad. Please review, it would be ace :D. I may make this into a collection of one-shots if anyone likes it, which I doubt. But R&R anyway please!!

MoonStar with wings

XxXx

I saw a figure. She was just lying on the ground. There was a glittering liquid around her, and it was a while until I realised it was blood. This sort of thing only happens in movies, not real life. But it was happening. I rushed over to her. She was slightly curled up, and the blood nearest to her was a pale pink, not the deep crimson of the other stuff. Tears were pouring silently from her eyes to her cheeks, and diluting the blood.

“Do you… need any help?” I said, warily. My mother always said not to talk to strangers. I doubt it was relevant in this situation.

The girl looked up at me, and her face filled with scorn. She couldn’t have been older than me, and she looked roughly my age, 15.

“No, I’m just lying here crying and bleeding for no reason.” She said sarcastically, but her voice was tinged with sadness. You could hardly hear her. She was clutching her side, were a large gash had been made. I made to help her, but she turned away. I looked around for a piece of cloth, and saw a knife nearby.

“Who did this to you?” I cried.

The two words she spoke chilled me to the bone.

“I did.”

Why? How? I felt like screaming, but I was worried she’d run away.

“Who are you?” I asked instead. “What’s your name?”

“Me? I’m a freak.” She answered, more softly than before. “And as for a name, I gave it to myself. I have no name.” She didn’t elaborate.

She looked around, and then shrugged her shoulders.

“It doesn’t matter.” I swear I heard her whisper it, but it could have been the breeze, playing with her golden blonde hair.

She moved around, and slowly extended a pair of huge brown and white splotched wings.

They were the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.

I was speechless.

2 or 3 minutes passed, but it felt like an eternity. I stared at her wings, and she continued trying to staunch the bleeding.

“You… you have… wings?” I finally blurted out.

“No shit Sherlock.” She replied, frank as ever. “I’m an avian-human hybrid, born and made in California. At a place we called the School.”

We? I thought.

I wondered why she was here. A small market town in England was as far away from California as you could get.

“With your wings, can you… fly?” the thought reverberated around my head, and leapt out of my mouth.

“Yeah. If it wasn’t for this,” she pointed to her side “I’d show you.”

“Are there… others, like you, with wings?” I had to know.

The tears had stopped whilst I’d been talking to her, but they restarted, more intense than they had been before.

“Yeah.” She choked out. “There are six of us. I’m the oldest. Me and Fang and Iggy and Nudge and Gazzy and Angel. We call…ed ourselves ‘the flock’.”

“Funny names.” I said.

“They are.” She giggled, but the tears were still pouring.

“Are they ok? Why aren’t you with them?”

“I did something stupid, and Fang decided it’d be best if I wasn’t with them. They couldn’t live with me after I’d done it.”

“What did you do?” I blurted out.

She stared at me, outraged.

Finally she answered.

“I made a mistake. I tried to save some other mutants. Our… clones.”

Clones? I thought. This got weirder by the second.

“But I failed. Through their eyes, it looked like I set fire to that building. Maybe I did. I can’t remember. It could have been me.”

She broke down, crying and went into a tight ball.

“Fang glared at me, and told me to leave. Said he didn’t want my… my type with us. I flew away, faster than ever before, maybe 5, 6 hundred miles an hour. I ended up here, and I stabbed myself. You interrupted me before I could get any further.”

After this outburst she continued crying, even harder.

“I meant to kill myself. I should. I’m not a good person, I’ve killed so many. It seems right that I should kill myself now. But I’ve realised that I…I love Fang.” She cried to the air.

“Wow.” I whispered to the air.

Suddenly I knew exactly the words I needed.

“Don’t kill yourself. You are beautiful, amazing. You were created for a purpose, and killing yourself will do no good. You have what so many want, crave, need. You have a family who love you, find them. If you truly love Fang, you will find him. This can’t be your end.”

I looked at my watch, realising I’d been with her for hours.

I stroked her hair. It was instinctive. No reason why, I just thought I should. She shuddered and moaned, and leant closer to me. I hugged her, feeling her soft silky wings against my arms.

The darkness enveloped us, and I wondered how we must seem, the normal girl hugging the beautiful, sad, wounded angel.

Where did I go wrong,

I lost a friend

Somewhere along in the bitterness.

But I stayed up,

With you all night,

Did I know

How to save a life?

We stayed like that for hours, and slowly we both fell into a fitful sleep.

I woke up the next morning, and she was gone, as suddenly as she arrived.

I looked around, and started to call for her. Then I realised I never knew her name. My eyes caught sight of a single note on the ground.

I bent down to pick it up, my eyes watering. A single tear fell down onto the paper, forever marking it.

Thank you.

Thank you for everything.

I will find him, them.

You don’t know what you’ve done for me.

You will always be in my heart, and one day I will find you again.

Love,

Maximum Ride

(Max)

She told me her name.

“Max.” I whispered to the wind.

“Thank you.”
