Moze's POV
This can't be happening. I've known Ned since forever. And a day. But it is happening. I am in love with Ned Bigby. As in Ned, my best friend of eleven years. WHAT CAN I DO??? I can't tell him, that'd ruin our friendship. And not to mention he made it pretty clear he didn't like me in that way from that VERY embarrassing note. But if I don't tell SOMEONE, I'm going to go insane. I have to tell someone. And as sad as this seems, that someone will have to be Cookie.
Changing POV
Moze pulled out her phone. No way was she going to say it to Cookie's face, she wouldn't be able to stand the "knowing" smirk he would have on his face. She typed out the message that would make or break her:
Okay. I need to admit something. Just don't act all stupid and smug about it. Here goes... I love Ned. Yep. Not a typo. Me, Jennifer Ann Mozely, loves Ned Bigby, best friend since pre-k. Happy?
Moze felt like a giant weight had been lifted off her shoulders.
With Ned (Not his POV)
"Hey, Cookie," Ned yelled, walking up to his friend in the hallway.
"Mmhm?" Cookie replied, not wanting to Ned or Moze after the so blatently refused to listen to him.
"Look, dude, I didn't mean it."Cookie looked at Ned, his eyes wide and a grin spreadin over his face. Ned realized what he said and groaned at his own stupidity.
"Um, no, I meant..." Ned quickly tried to come up with a lie. "I didn't mean to be so...um... rude?" He finished lamely. That was a stupid lie even by his standards. Cookie saw straight through it at once. He raised an eyebrow and looked at Ned expectantly. And Ned caved.
"I admit it. I may have a small crush on Moze." Cookie raised the other eyebrow.
"Okay, a big crush." Cookie still looked at him expectantly. Ned looked like he was having a painful internal struggle.
"Do I have to?" Ned begged.
"Yes. Say it."
Ned took a deep breath. He was going to have to say it. When they were eleven, Cookie had made Ned promise that when he liked someone, they had to say a certain sentence. And he was now regretting that promise with every word he spoke. "I, Ned Bigby, am in love with Jennifer Mozely." Ned said, wincing slightly. Cookie grinned and slapped him on the back. He opened hi mouth to speak.
"Please don't." Ned begged, grimacing. Cookie ignored him and did a little dance, singing:
"I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT!" Ned waited until he was done, keen to get off the subject. "Anyway, can I borrow your phone, mine's broken? I just need to call Mum and tell her I'm walking home today." Cookie handed over his phone, and went off singing and skipping down the hallway. Ned rolled his eyes and flipped open the phone. 1 new message...from Moze... couldn't hurt to check it...
Later That Day: Ned's POV
I can't believe this. Moze actually likes me. The worst part is, I can't tell her I know because:
a) She would hate me for snooping
b) It would ruin our friendship
c) It would embarrass both of us
d) She could have just been joking around
e) All of the above
I'll have to go with e. If we actually did go out, and then broke up, what would we be like around eachother? I mean, sure, she'll say "We'll still be friends, though, okay?" And then we might feel to awkward. Man, I hate love. Now, onto good news:
Moze has stopped ignoring me! Anyway, I was at my locker, when I heard someone say my name, so I turned around and froze. Moze was coming down the corridor, but for some reason, she looked incredible. She was playing with her long brown hair, and her eyes sorta made me freeze mid-breath.
"Hey, Ned!" she said with a smile that made my knees go all wobbly. Cheesy, right? Snap out of it, Ned! Say hi back, you noodle. All I could do was gape at jer like a friggin' fish.
"Ned? Um...anyway, I've got volleyball practise after school, so I guess I'll walk home alone..." She was looking at me as though unsure of my sanity. And to tell you the truth, at this point, I wasn't quite so sure either.
"Oh, um, yeah, sorry, mental blank. Um, I have basketball, so i guess we can still walk home-?" I said, cursing myself for sounding so eager.
"Okay, sounds good." and she walked off. Wow, her butt looked good in those jeans... WHAT AM I SAYING?! I am not a sick-perverted-creep. I grabbed my sport-bag and marched off to the outdoor courts, furious with myself.
Moze's POV
Woah. I've never really noticed it before, but since 7th grade, Ned is actually really...hot. His gorgeous brown ruffled hair...his peircing blue eyes... and his butt in those jeans... Urgh, Moze, sicko! He doesn't even like you in that way! I walked off to volleyball practise, struggling to keep my thoughts off him...which is proing to be very difficult.
Changing POV
Moze emerged from the gym to see it was pouring with rain. She looked down to the basketball court, and was amazed to see they were still training. She heard a coaches whistle peirce the rain, and next thing she knew, fourteen guys charged towards her, and running to the change rooms. She couldn't see Ned amongst them, so she assumed he walked home without her.
Feeling very disappointed, she trudged across the grass towards her house. As she was half way across the lawn, she felt a tap on her shoulder. She turned around, and spotted ned, sopping wet, grinning at her. He sped up and walked next to her.
"Where'd you go?" Ned asked, shoving her to the side. She pushed back playfully.
"I thought you'd left without me,"
"Aw, you know I'd never do that." he said winking.
"Yeah, right." Moze said, grinning. She jogged off.
"I am so sorry, may I grovel for your forgiveness, ma'am?" he said, getting on his hands and knees, making himslef even more wet and muddy.
"I refuse." Moze said with a wicked grin. She went to run off, but Ned caught her on the shoulders. He began tickling her, and she screamed out.
"NED BIGBY, YOU LEAVE ME NO CHOICE!" Moze yelled, launching herself on top of him, tickling him wherever she could reach. They crashed to the ground, laughing the whole way.
This is definately the most relaxed we've been in ages, Ned thought. He flipped over, and pretty soon, he was covered in mud, along with Moze. Ned rolled over so he was on top of her, and pinned her arms to her side.
"I have you now!" he said triumphantly, dripping rainwater all over her. He could feel her warm breath tickling his cheek. He looked into her brown eyes, and he felt he could hold it in no longer.
"I love you, Jennifer."
He leaned closer and gently pressed his lips to hers. She opened her eyes in surprise but did not pull away. Instead, she smiled against his lips and kissed back. Each melted into the other, and Moze ran her hand through his hair, remembering how she had yearned to do that for so long. Ned slid his hands around her waist, never wanting to let go. Moze felt a light pressing on her lips, and opened her mouth very slightly to encourage him. They broke apart after a while, staring at eachother, both shell-shocked. Ned gaped at her, he had not expected her to kiss back. Finally he broke the silence.
"Did we just-?"
"Yep."
"And you-?"
"Yep."
"And I told you-?"
"Yep."
Moze sat there and finally got to her feet. She pulled Ned up, so they were almost nose-to-nose.
"Um, Moze?"
"Yeah?"
"Does this mean you'll be my girlfriend?" He stood there, sopping wet, muddy and blushing. Moze took a small step closer, so they were almost touching, and whispered in his ear:
"Only if you promise not to read other people's text messages."
