Her name was Hinata Hyuuga and due to her passive demeanor and average looks, she would never star as the protagonist in any romance story, for the readers always expect the heroine to be a voluptuous blonde or a redhead with killer body, accompanied with short temper-tantrum and a strong sense of justice.

Qualified she was not, but when Sasuke Uchiha came out of blue interfere uninvited to her tedious life, she suddenly became the female lead in a story she’d never thought she’d have.. or at least, in this lifetime… She suddenly got sapped onto the fairytale where the guy was handsome and charming, and there is an antagonistic girl whose ambition was to destroy her, and when the twists of fate were unpredictable and always surprising.

The life she’s currently leading now.

But then, all the fairy tales were crushed when he reminded her of the reality. She really wasn’t the star. She was the pseudo one, because he couldn’t find or rather, didn’t want to find the real star. She’d come back as the Sympathetic Sidekick after three months, because, really…

A Cinderella story wouldn’t suit someone as plain as she.

Prologue

It is universally accepted that if the days are good and devoid from any conflicts, then time would inexplicably fast forward to the point when the days are being dreadful again.

Hinata’s life has been relatively normal ever since Gaara brought her back to the school discreetly. Somehow, neither of the teachers knew about her escape, and Sasuke uncharacteristically didn’t seem to be too preoccupied by it. Her ability to tell lies had definitely improved. Or so she thought.

But strangely, she didn’t find this news comforting.

A secret part of her always wanted him to worry about her. Yes, it was a selfish thought, and thus, she’d lock it deep in her heart and keep it exclusive to her and her only.

Why wouldn’t he ask her for details? She wouldn’t lie. She promised she wouldn’t lie.

Over the week, she spent time only to hold hands with Sasuke and smiled at him lovingly (and received a few equally loving, as well as equally faked smile) in front of the students. The tests and quizzes were an embellishment to her life, that’s for sure, but she could care less about them. Nothing happened in Tuesday, other than a little discovery that Neji and Ino had taken their relationship into the kissing-stage. Hinata witnessed their kiss with her own eyes when she opened the janitor closet to borrow a mop.

At Wednesday, Sakura asked her to join the bubble party, but of course, looking back at the past to see how atrocious she’d done in the last party made her refuse the invitation. She shared an eye-contact with Naruto at Tuesday, but she quickly averted her gaze before he could call her and hurt her again. At the same day, she dared herself to cuddle on Sasuke at the Biology class, when they’re watching how the frogs copulate. He incorporated with her, probably because he noticed Sakura’s presence within the class, and for a brief moment, she felt much much better.

Sometimes, she wondered how fast Sasuke transformed from a total stranger to her sole source for comfort. It really didn’t matter to her if she didn’t cause him the same effect. They were, after all, only having a mutual-symbiosis. She was there to shun all the girls from fangirling before him and to be introduced into his mother without having a real commitment. He was there to help her climbing the social status and to be her friend.

A perfect business partner. That’s what they were to each other.

What she didn’t know was…

her speculation of their relationship was wrong. Dead wrong.

Yes, their first pact was that. Yes, at first she was there to be his shield.

but…

No, she didn’t play the role as the shield now.

Yes, he had meant to have no commitment with her. Other than friends, that is.

but…

No, he didn’t think that he could stay with that condition now.

and…

Did she really think that she could keep faking and denying her feelings all the time?

Days flew like a bird and already it was weekend again.

Hinata stayed on her bed, not having any urge to get up to take shower nor doing pretty much anything else. Sure, sure, things had been doing very great. There was no problems rising, there’s no Gaara appearing out of nowhere to take her to some weird places. And her pseudo relationship with Sasuke had never been better. Now, the whole school had believed that Hinata Hyuuga, the prude of the school, had won the heart of the hot, new guy.

So, what’s exactly eating her, anyway?

She took a look on her photo frame, which she hung right on the wall across her bed. Her first intention was so that she could stare at the photographs of her and her very first friend everytime she woke up from slumber.

Now, she didn’t cherish the idea anymore. But still, she couldn’t find a good reason why.

ooOooOoo

However,

Deep inside she knew.. that she didn’t want to know about the reason at all.

As it would break the invisible barrier that she’d created with very much sweat and force.
