Disclaimer: I do not own the Jonas Brothers or Aly & AJ.

Everywhere I went there was silence.

Joe wasn’t talking to me anymore and I didn’t know what to say to him anyway.

I just didn’t know where to begin.

Kevin felt like he was to blame and Nick just had no idea what was going on.

I felt like a complete idiot. I regretted ever writing songs in the first place and I promised myself to never write another.

I wanted to crawl in a hole and bury myself alive.

It seemed like a pretty good plan.

“Talk to him,” Nick surprised me by saying.

I looked at him weird, but said nothing.

“I have no idea what is going on with you guys, but you need to talk to him or nothing is ever going to change,” Nick continued, “And I don’t know about you, but this silence is really annoying.”

I nodded and Nick walked away.

Yea, I need to talk to Joe, but I still didn’t know what to say to him.

I decided to give it a shot anyway.

“Hey friend,” I said sitting beside Joe on the couch.

“Hey,” Joe practically mumbled.

“How are you doing?” I asked. What was I doing here?

“Fine,” Joe said still mumbling.

“That’s good, I mean fine is pretty awesome. It’s better than horrible or bad or lame or annoyed or,” I said.

“What are you talking about?” Joe asked interrupting my insane rambling.

“That’s a good question,” I replied, “I just don’t know what to say to you.”

“You don’t have to say anything, Vanessa,” Joe said, “I’m fine.”

“You’re not fine,” I said, “And I’m not either.”

“Sorry,” Joe said going back to his mumbling.

“I want to be friends again,” I said, “You know, how we used to be.”

“You just surprised me,” Joe said.

I looked at the ground, unable to say anything.

“I just didn’t think you were like that,” Joe said.

“But you knew AJ was like that and you still liked her,” I said.

“But you’re different,” Joe answered.

“Yea, she was your girlfriend and I was your friend,” I said, “I was your friend before you even knew her, but you can’t even forgive me. She can just kiss you and tell her she’s sorry and that just makes forgiving her ten times easier. Yea, I’m different. I’m not as important as your girlfriend.”

I knew I was going to cry so I practically ran away. I barely heard Joe calling my name, but it didn’t matter. I wasn’t going back.

I ran all the way to my house and crashed down on my bed. I didn’t notice Kevin sitting there until he said something.

“What happened?” Kevin asked concerned.

“Nothing,” I said, wiping away useless tears.

“Yea I usually cry when nothing’s wrong too,” Kevin replied walking over and sitting beside me, “What did my insane brother do now.”

“He didn’t do anything,” I replied, “I just made the mistake of thinking that he would forgive me.”

“But you didn’t even do anything,” Kevin said. I agreed but I didn’t respond.

I didn’t understand what was happening. Joe had no idea how much I liked him, but it didn’t even matter if he ever found out.

I would settle for things going back to the way they used to be.

Joe and AJ together and me being insanely jealous.

Those were the golden days. Wasn’t that a depressing thought?

It truly was.

“Don’t let it get to you,” Kevin said.

“Too late,” I replied.

I must have fell asleep because I woke up with 10 new voice messages on my phone and Kevin was gone.

I didn’t really want to listen to them so I went downstairs instead.

“Hey, mom,” I said sitting at the table.

“You look horrible,” she replied.

“Gee you really know how to make me feel great,” I said rolling my eyes.

“What happened?” she asked.

“Nothing,” I replied, “I’m perfectly fine.”

“Yea, you look it,” she said rolling her eyes this time.

“If it’s about that Joe I’m going to have to punch him in the face,” she added.

“Mom!” I almost yelled.

“What?” she said, starting to laugh.

I just stared at her.

“Ooo, you didn’t know I knew about the whole Joe thing,” she said smiling, “I’m your mom, not a complete idiot.”

“I knew that, but Joe doesn’t mean anything to me,” I said.

“Yea, sure,” she said, “You’re father never meant anything to me either.”

I just shook my head and went back to my room.

I looked at my phone and realized I had 12 messages this time. I guess it was time to listen.

1st message.

“Hey, this is Joe, I don’t really know what is going on, but I think we need to talk.”

2nd message

“Joe again, I guess you don’t want to talk or your phone’s on silent or something. If you want to, call me back. I’ll be waiting.”

3rd message

“Hey, this is Nick. What happened between you and Joe?”

Yea, he leaves good messages.

4th message

“So, why aren’t you answering? It’s been like an hour. I’ve kind of just been sitting here waiting. Like an idiot. You probably hate me. Man, you probably should if you don’t. You just don’t get it do you? Ugh, I don’t even know what I’m saying anymore, but you really need to call me back.”

5th message

“Ok, I know you put your phone on silent sometimes, but come on this is just crazy. You at least check to see if anyone called. Do you really hate me that much?”

6th message

“Wow, I’m sorry for all of my messages. This is probably getting annoying.”

All the other messages pretty much said the same thing, except one of them was from Kevin.

I didn’t know what to do. Why was Joe so interested in talking to me? Why did he even care? He wasn’t supposed to right?

I didn’t know.

I knew I had to call him back, but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.

I decided to go back downstairs instead.

I just got downstairs when I heard a knock on the door.

Geez, what now?

I opened the door and was shocked into silence.

It was the guy that just left 10 messages on my phone. The guy I liked so much I might even love him. The guy that made me so jealous when he was with other girls. The guy that inspired me to write the song that was causing so much trouble.

It was Joe.
