“All Hexed Up”
Chapter I : Mythic-much? (Phoebe’s POV)
Hey! I’m Phoebe Stone. And yeah, by the way I’m the luckiest person in the world!
Yeah right.
It’s been six hours, thirty-two minutes, and twenty-one endless seconds since the plane took off from LAX, which might not seem like such a long time to you. But then you haven’t spent all that time with the two most annoyingly, giggly, people in the world.
My parents. Scott, or as people call him “Spooky” Stone, the oh-so famous horror director of Shriek 3 and his lovely wife, Alyssa Stone.
And they’re more annoying when they’re oh-so-happy. Today, they couldn’t be more thrilled. Actually, it’s because today, Dad’s heading back to his hometown. Mythic, Massachusetts. And not just that, he’s planning to film a witch-inspired story called the “Makings Of Magic.” I know, I know, it’s terrible, but what can I do? I can’t just click my feet together and open my eyes to see, me with my ex-boyfriend Linc, who by the way broke up with me since he discovered that my parents were the freakazoids who brought a little cute child to his 5th birthday who was screaming her guts out since she wanted the blue balloon. And that little cute child was me. I wish, oh man, that I was at my swimming pool at Orange County with my besties Elizabeth Schubert and Haylie Bogard.
“Look, at your right, Pheebs. It’s Raven Ridge! This means we’re almost at Mythic!” Alyssa exclaimed. She leaned to my dad, and had decided to whisper something about me to catch my attention. That’s so my mom. And I hate it! Can’t she see? Hello! I’m listening to my Hilary Duff music from I hate to brag but it’s from my brand new 5th gen iPod Video. I just turn around to the window, rolled it up and took a peek of that Raven Ridge. Unfortunately, it was the most unbelievable thing I saw. In my whole life. I saw a man tormenting a woman with a cone-shaped hat and this woman, was holding a broom stick.
“Mom!” I screamed pointing at the place where I swear I saw the man tormenting the so-called witch. “A man’s harassing a woman!”
“Are hallucinating Pheebs? There’s nothing!” my mom raises her shoulders innocently while I stare at the exact same place where I saw : okay let’s call it : “The Witchy Thing” Well, it does make sense since Mythic, Massachusetts is a tourist spot for people who are interested in witchcraft and the occult.
“Honey, I think she’s starting to like the place!” Dad once again, was being an optimist. And he isn’t really good at that.
“Yeah right. What’s like in the fact that I have this life thing to do back at O.C.?” I started rolling a.) my eyes and b.) the window.
“Aww, c’mon. Don’t be such a pile of wet blankets, Pheebs.” My mom spits some motherly care thing. “I know this isn’t easy-“
“You do?” I interrupt. “Which part do you think is the least ‘easy’- starting high school at a new school in a town that’s so tiny that everyone has probably had the same friends since birth? Or the fact that said tiny town is just as obsessed as macabre as my freak show parents?”
Mom’s trying to maintain her cool, but I can tell that she was freaked out by the thing I said since I can see her nerve twitching. However, she still manages to spit out some parental 101 out. “Phoebe, give Mythic a chance.” After that little talk we had, car was just running without any noise from it’s occupants. Well, as usual, my dad broke this silence thing we were having.
“We’re finally in Mythic!” My dad get’s out of the car and pulled me out. My mom almost swooshed with her giant skirt. And she was literally swooshing. I was just staring now at my mud-filled, penny loafers. Well, do you actually think I would wear one of those black, gory outfits since I’m the daughter of Spooky Stone who dresses like that? And uhm, you think, someday I would be directing my own gory feauturette starring an actor wearing vampire teeth?
Then you are wrong, wrong, wrongity, wrong, wrong.
I am just the total opposite of what you’re thinking. I HATE black. And, I love, love, love pink, lavender and sky blue. I wear little skirts and nice girly shirts. I bring a cute LeSportsac bag and I wear cute little Penny Loafers. I am so NOT like any of my parents! With all this thinking, I just didn’t see where I was going. Well I jumped out of my thoughts when I bonked my head on a really hard marble statue. When I analyzed the statue deeply, my jaw just dropped. I saw three women with coned shaped hats, twitchy noses, boots and a black cloth-like dress draping on their shoulders, gathering around some golden cauldron. Then my mom spoke up.
“Phoebe, they are the witches from Macbeth. Well, they were built here since the people from Mythic thought that these women were guiding them.” Mom started taking out a notebook and wrote everything on the inscription which said:
Night to day, day to night
An evil witch is brought to light.
Seek the good, rescind the bad,
Relinquish powers that you had.
Weird. I guess that’s why they call this statue after the Weird Sisters. That little inscription was – Wait a second. Why am I thinking this witchy? Weird sisters my butt. I read the inscription aloud which didn’t catch my parents attention thought and I kick the statue. But as my foot touched the statue some static entered through my foot and headed to forehead and gave me a huge migraine. Geez. Just for a statue, for Pete’s sake.
“Honey, anything wrong?” My dad runs towards me as he sees me holding my head down in pain. All I could manage to say was, “Daddy, there’s nothing wrong.” Then I think what the- Daddy? Ulk.
“Can we just get to this house you rented? I think I just want to rest. Or maybe so.” I said. I hate this day. Period. Well, it just simply get’s worse when I got home.
“Mooooooooooooooooooooooooommm!! Where’s my Vans shoes? I couldn’t find it in my suitcase?!” I bellowed from my door. I’m just a little happy about the fact that my house isn’t as terrifying and tacky as I thought. It’s a gorgeous manor, with nice paints. It’s a nice house. But not better than the house I had in L.A.
“It’s in your suitcase. Somewhere near your Gucci purse and that Lacoste sling bag.” My mom peers in the bedroom and points at my suitcase.
“It’s not here.” I grunted. Well. I didn’t see it.
“Then search!” My mom turns around and heads to the room in front of mine.
I search under my Gucci purse and find my favorite thong and one of Linc’s underwear. Well, I’m not too young to have sex. Hello, I’m eighteen?! I’ve got some experience. Outta that topic. I can’t find my Vans shoes. I think deeply of wanting to have it back. When I open my eyes, I’m at the surprise of my life.
I see my Vans shoes. How could that happen? I look around and saw a huge piece of cloth. I thought then that my Vans shoes were under them. I stuck with that answer. I look at my watch to see that it’s already 3:30 in the afternoon. I decided to take some smog-free air in Mythic. But I need the perfect outfit. I grab a light pink cotton shirt with some cute black and hot pink designs. I dug up a cute pair of white shorts and took a pair of pink rubber shoes with bulging heart designs. I find it perfect for riding my bike. I run down the stairs and said to my mom that I would be walking around the town and maybe stay in some coffee shop called “Strange Brews Coffee Shoppe”. My mom agreed and I left.
As I was scanning the town, I don’t find anything different in any of the buildings. They all look alike. Just some old gray buildings and a faded black to outline it. Well at least the coffee shop had a nice brown for a change. I entered it and saw- WOW! A bunch of girls wearing the cutest coutures and outfits. I just dropped my jaw. And not only that I saw the hottest guy my eyes could scan.
