(A/N: I don’t own any of J.K. Rowlings characters, yeah I know it’s not my best, but it does get better, please review!)
Nicky stared out of the window at the landscape that was speeding by. It was really happening, she had had a hard time believing she was really a witch until this moment. Even in Diagon alley, she had been in a state of doubt, but now, she was really on the Hogwarts express. She grinned happily then started as the door opened. A dark haired boy peered in and smiled nervously at her.
“Hullo, can we sit here too, there’s nowhere else worth sitting.”
“Oh, I don’t mind,” Nicky smiled at him and moved her purse to the floor.
“Hey guys, over her!” The boy waved to some people in the hall then stepped inside.
“I’m Albus Potter, you can call me Al,”
“Cool, I’m Nicky, Nicky Riddle,” Nicky shook hands with Al and nodded at the other people filing into the compartment.
“Hi, I’m Rosie, this is Hugo, my brother.” Nicky grinned at the Auburn haired girl.
“Sweet, is this your second year here?”
“Yeah, it is, is this your first?”
“Yup, I am so excited, I hear everything’s different here. I heard about quidditch and stuff and it sounded so neat.” Albus perked up at the mention of quidditch.
“Oh yeah, it’s bloody fabulous, James, my older brother is a seeker, I’m going out for a beater. Hey, where are you from?”
“I’m from America,”
“Cool.”
The four children continued talking till they got to Hogwarts. There, Rosie left them and the remaining three headed for the lake. There, the hulking figure of what the others said was Hagrid, awaited.
Nicky waited in front
of the big man as they waited for the rest of the first years to
assemble.
“Alright first years, gather up, three to a boat,
three to a boat, don’t be shy!” Hagrid herded them into a boat
and Nicky looked around for Albus and Hugo, not seeing them; she
stepped into a boat with a blond haired boy. When no one else got in,
the boat started across the lake, seemingly of it’s own accord.
“This is so cool!” exclaimed Nicky. “I’m Nicky, who’re you?”
“Scorpius Malfoy,” The boy looked at Nicky warily as she dug in her purse.
“I know it’s in here somewhere, ah yes here we go.” Nicky pulled a small makeup bag out of her purse and proceeded to touch up her makeup. Scorpius was looking at her in surprise. “Is my mascara smudged?” asked Nicky worriedly?” Before Scorpius could answer, Nicky’s phone rang. “Once second, it’s probably my mom.” Nicky dug in her purse again, this time pulling out a flip phone. “Hello? Mother? Oh, hello, yes I’m fine, we’re almost at school, okay, say hi to Dad and Mike for me, okay Mother, love you too, bye.” Nicky stuck her phone in her robes and rolled her eyes at Scorpius, “Mothers,” Scorpius grinned hesitantly at her.
“How did you get your phone to work, electronic stuff doesn’t work inside Hogwarts?”
“Oh, Mr. Baum, the wand maker, he charmed my stuff so it’ll work, I couldn’t live without my gadgets. Oh, look we’re docking now, I can’t wait to eat, and I am so hungry.” Scorpius raised his eyebrows at her and she grinned sheepishly, “I’m talking too much again aren’t I? I do that a lot, my brother says I need to glue my lips together, but I just tell him…” Seeing the exasperated look on Scorpius’s face, Nicky stopped talking and inspected the castle that they had entered. It was huge, Nicky knew she’d be lost in a second, oh well.
They came to a big hall filled with students, all seated at four long tables. Nicky saw the teachers at the head of the room and inspected them, they looked, strange.
A tall young lady came forward with a tattered old hat and set it on a stool in front of everyone. “Alright then first years, this is the sorting hat. You will come forward when I call your name and you will put the hat on. The hat will name one of four houses, Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw. Once you have been sorted you will go sit at your new houses table. Clear? Good, then we shall commence with the sorting. Albus Potter, please come forward.” Nicky looked around for Albus and saw him being patted on the shoulder by Hugo. He shakily went up to the hat and put it on his head. Before it even had time to fall over his eyes, a seam in the hat parted and yelled, “GRYFFINDOR!” a loud round of applause went up from the Gryffindor table. The process went on like that for a while, until Nicky’s name was called. Scorpius pushed her forward and she held on tight to her purse. She strode confidently towards the hat, she plopped it on her head and sat down.
“Hmm,” murmured the hat. “Very difficult indeed, you could go into any number of houses. All would do well for you; I can see you will do many great things for Hogwarts. Better make it Gryffindor.” Nicky smiled happily and put the hat on the stool. She skipped down to the Gryffindor table. She saw Scorpius waiting nervously to be sorted and she winked at him. He rolled his eyes and gave a small wave. Nicky saw Albus and Hugo waving to her and she sat down beside them.
As soon as the sorting was over, the headmaster, Professor Charion, clapped his hands and food appeared on the tables.
“Oh wow, this is so cool!” exclaimed Nicky, she licked her lips and grabbed some of everything. She had just put a mouthful of mashed potatoes in her mouth when her phone rang. Albus and Hugo looked around, obviously puzzled. “Oh that’s me, I forgot to turn off my phone. It’s probably Gina.” Albus and Hugo looked at her then laughed.
“That’s funny, as if you could really have a tennyphone in here.” They laughed and took even bigger bites of food. Nicky shrugged and pulled her phone out of her robes. “Hello? Oh hey Gina, can I call you back, we just started dinner, okay, yeah, I’ll tell you all about it later, okay okay, bye.” She flipped her phone shut and started eating again, she looked up to ask Albus what she was eating, only to be met with a dumbfounded stare. “Are you okay?” She asked nervously. “Is it my hair? Or my makeup?” Nicky patted her hair and pulled out a mirror.
“How did you get that to work in here? Electronics don’t work, Mom said so.” Said Hugo.
“Mr. Baum, the wand maker charmed my stuff.” Nicky shrugged and looked to see if she could find Rose. She spotted her further down the table and waved. Rose waved back and mouthed something. Nicky just grinned, she was definitely going to like it here.
