Death is what you make of it. And that’s how it can all be true.
That’s how the Remus that Tonks knew and loved could be holding her hand, smiling. That’s how they could kiss. That’s how they could watch Teddy grow, together.
In life, he’d wanted desperately to love her. He tried. With strength of will, he tried.
In death, he found himself successful, and he never told her what a struggle it had been.
Because he didn’t remember at all.
He was what they had both wanted him to be.
What Molly and countless others wanted him to be.
A loving husband.
That’s also how they could be racing now through wet leaves.
Or sneaking through the castle.
Or just gorging themselves on candy and butterbeer.
They run, and fly, and laugh, and generally wreak havoc.
But they never get caught.
They’re brilliant together, the four of them.
Friends.
Forever.
That’s also how they could be what Harry saw. What Harry needed to see.
Though he didn’t understand.
This- sensuous and languorous, with all the time in the world.
Urgent and daring, and hilarious.
Smirks, and touches, kisses and pants pulled down.
This is also his life after death.
A life shared with Sirius.
And they don’t have to hide it from anyone.
They can just be.
Heaven for Remus, is the living and reliving of the best times.
An eternity without suspicion, betrayal, or guilt.
Love without lies.
Free at last.
