Disclaimer: I own nothing to do with Moonlight or Chasing Cars by: Snow Patrol.
A/N: Spoiler alert for…let’s see. I think it was Love Lasts Forever. But I’m not sure. It was the most recent one (that was not a rerun).
We’ll do it all everything, on our ownWe don’t need anything, or anyone
If I lay here, if I just lay here
Would you lie with me
And just forget the world?
There were tears in his eyes and for some strange reason Mick was sure that it was his fault they were there. He took a step closer to her and reached out for her, hoping to comfort her, but she cringed away from him. Mick bit back the sudden rush of emotions that had flooded his body. It was his fault, of course it was, it almost always was.
Beth kept backing away from him and he kept walking toward her. Her back collided with the wall and she finally gave in to him. Mick wrapped his arms around her and pulled her warm body closer to his. Beth grabbed his shirt and then buried her head in his chest and cried. It was truly over now, and she seemed to have finally managed to grasp this idea.
“He’s gone, Mick, he’s gone,” Beth choked out the words through her tears. Mick didn’t say anything—he wasn’t sure what to say—so he just held her.
I don’t quiet know how to say how I feel
Those three words are said too much
They’re not enough
Mick scooped Beth up and carried her back to her bedroom. For a moment he stood in the doorway and looked at the messy bed, where they had first made love. Eventually he stepped inside and lowered her onto the bed. Beth was still holding on to him even as he lowered her to the mattress. Mick lay down next to her and gathered her up in his arms. It felt wrong, to be lying in the bed that had once been occupied by a man he had refused to save.
His body ached all over and he was finding it hard not to fall asleep. Beth was so warm in his arms and he was tired. They were both dressed in black, having come straight from the funeral. It was sunny outside, the sun was on his skin and it was warm. Mick closed his eyes and winced when he scooted closer to Beth.
If I lay here, if I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?
Forget what we’re told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden
That’s bursting into life
“Mick,” Beth whispered. “Mick, wake up.” Her voice cut through the silence and pulled Mick out of his dream. He opened his eyes and smiled at her.
“Everything hurts,” Mick said trying and failing to sit up. Beth giggled and helped him into an upright position. She then curled up in his lap and rested her head on his chest.
“You’re human,” Beth whispered. Mick nodded and then looked down at her. She was beaming up at him; he took this as a good sign.
“I swear, as long as I live I will never understand women,” Mick mumbled. Beth looked up at him and smiled then started kissing his neck. She said something against his neck but he couldn’t make out the words. Mick just grinned and tangled his fingers deep in her hair.
“How long?” Beth lifted her head and asked him the question again. Mick traced her jaw with his index finger then pulled her in for a gentle kiss.
“I’m not sure,” Mick whispered.
Let’s waste time chasing cars
Around our heads
I need your grace to remind me
To find my own
Beth was moving quickly, almost as if she was afraid that at any moment he would turn back into a vampire. Mick did not try to slow her down—he feared the same thing—but he also knew that he had so much time left.
Mick would have carried her upstairs to his bedroom but he could barely walk. So instead he leaned her back on the couch and covered her body with his, still amazed at how soft her skin was.
His fingers traced across her delicate skin and Mick wondered why it was she was allowing him to touch her. He had refused to save Josh. She should hate him for that, but she didn’t. Instead she begged him to touch her. She was whispering his name over and over again, pleading with him to stop teasing her. She was afraid he would turn back into a vampire, but he was not. Not yet, anyway.
If I lay here, if I just lay here
Would you lie with me
And just forget the world?
Forget what we’re told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden
That’s bursting into life
Mick opened his eyes and groaned. They were lying on the floor curled up underneath a small blanket. Mick shivered. He pulled Beth closer in an attempt to recover some of his lost body heat. Mick was cold. He almost laughed out loud when he realized just how cold he was. Mick buried his nose in Beth’s hair and closed his eyes.
His stomach rumbled and again Mick fought the urge to laugh out loud. He had forgotten just how glorious it was to be human.
Beth was beginning to stir in his arms. Mick kissed her a few times, moving her hair off of her neck and kissing the soft skin. Beth opened her eyes and smiled at him. If only things could stay like this forever. If only.
All that I am, all that I ever was
Is here in your perfect eyes
They’re all I can see, I don’t know where
Confused about how as well
Just know that these things will never
Change for us at all
TBC…
A/N: So…I’m not sure how much more I can write for this story. A few more chapters. Hopefully I’ll have it finished before we get some new episodes…maybe, maybe not. Review please!
