A/N: MERRY CHRISTMAS!! YAY!! Time for a Syrus-kun and Zane-sama fanfic!! Now, I'm making up things about the Truesdale brother's past. I've used the ideas in a story before, but I'm just letting you know that it is probably not true, and I don't know how they grew up. My way makes it easier to write cute things. Anyway . . . I should write now. Oh, and this takes place in the first season.
Disclaimer: I hate these. We would the owner of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX be writing fanfictions about Yu-Gi-Oh! GX. Actually, that wouldn't even be fanfiction anymore . . .
Everyone except for Syrus Truesdale, who had never been more confused in his life. Why were people exchanging gifts? Why were people wearing those silly red hats? And what were those plant things hanging on the ceiling. More importantly, why were the Obelisk Blue students being so nice?
It didn't make any sense. People were saying the word 'Christmas' a lot, but what was Christmas? What did it mean? Was Christmas the cause of all the strangness on the island? Syrus had no idea, and he didn't want to ask anybody, since it was obvious that he was the only one who didn't know what it meant.
Syrus shivered, and continued his walk back to the Slifer Dorm. He was scared of what would happen when he made it back. What if Jaden had gotten him a present. Syrus didn't know why people were giving each other presents, but Syrus knew that he had not bought one present for anybody. What if Jaden got mad?
Syrus stopped in his tracks. No, he wouldn't go back today. He would have to find somewhere else to stay . . . and there's one only one person who would even consider letting Syrus stay in their dorm room. And that person was Zane.
Syrus gulped. He didn't know what was worse. Risking Jaden being mad at him, or asking Zane if he could crash in his dorm. Maybe he could just sleep outside . . . that would work. He could get Frost Bite . . . but that was okay . . . right? Syrus shook his head. He was being stupid. Zane wouldn't hurt him . . . would he?
Syrus was wandering, not really paying attention to where he was going, which was not a very smart thing to do. Especially not when there were some very icy patches on the ground. When you combine these two facters, the outcome is obvious. You fall. Which is exactly what Syrus did.
He stepped on a patch of ice, and fell back, hitting his head on the ice. He lied there, dazed, and he was sure that he could see stars. Syrus wimpered and closed his eyes. Looks like he really would be spending the night outside.
"Why are you lying on the ground?"
Syrus opened his eyes. There was something fuzzy standing over him, looking down. His glasses must have fallen off when he fell. "I-I fell."
"You okay?"
It took Syrus a second to realise a second to realise that the voice was familiar. Very familiar. "Z-Zane?"
"What?"
Syrus rolled over onto his stomache, and pulled himself into a sitting position using his brother's leg as support. "I wanted to ask you something . . ."
Zane raised an eyebrow at his otouto. "Ask me what?"
Syrus frowned, deep in thought. "I can't remember. Umm . . . Christmas? No, I wanted to stay in your room tonight. I think . . ."
"Why would you do that? Did you have a fight with Jaden?"
Syrus shook his head. "No . . . but . . . I didn't want to go back."
Zane sighed. "Why not?"
"Because everybody is all happy about this Christmas thing. And they're giving each other gifts. But I didn't get anybody any gifts! I don't even know what Christmas is! And-"
"Syrus calm down! And here, take your glasses," Zane said kindly, placing Syrus' glasses in his hand.
"Arigatou," Syrus mumbled as he put his glasses back on.
"So, you don't want to go back because you don't know what Christmas is?"
Syrus nodded, then instantly regretted it. His head hurt more than he had originally thought. Syrus moaned and rested his head against his brother's legs. "My head hurts nii-san."
"It should. You are bleeding."
"I am?" Syrus reached back and touched the back of his head, discovering that his brother was right. He was bleeding.
"You are. So, it looks like I'll have to take you to the hospital. You're not going to your dorm tonight."
Syrus blinked, not really sure what his brother had just said. "I have to go to the hospital?"
"That's right. Looks like I'll have to carry you there."
"So I don't have to see Jaden tonight?"
"No, not if you don't want to," Zane said as he bent down. "Now get on my back."
Syrus wrapped his arms around his nii-san's neck. Zane stood up and, after making sure that Syrus wasn't going to fall off, started to walk back to the Academy.
"Nii-san?"
"What is it?"
"What's Christmas?"
Zane chuckled. "I had forgotten that you still didn't know what that was. Where we grew up . . . well, there was no Christmas."
"But why not?"
"Because we didn't have a family. Christmas is all about families."
Syrus frowned. "I have a family. You."
"Well, yes. I meant a bigger family. With parents."
"Oh . . . have you told anybody that we don't have parents?"
"Of course not. Have you?"
Syrus shook his head. "I've even pretended that we do. Well, kind of. I've said that mom says I got the looks . . ."
Zane smiled. "So you got the looks, did you? Then what did I get?"
"Everything else . . . you still haven't told me what Christmas is."
"Christmas is . . . well, it's the birthday of a man who was born hundreds of years ago. His name was Jesus."
Syrus' eyes widened. "You mean he's still alive?"
"Of course not."
"But why do we celebrate his birthday?"
Zane frowned. "Well . . . I don't really know that part . . . but I do know that he was very important. So important that today is like . . . everybody's birthday."
"So . . . that's why everybody gets presents?"
Zane nodded. "That's right."
"Okay . . . but why are people wearing those red hats?"
"Those are Santa hats."
"What's Santa?"
"A man who lives in the North Pole. Every Christmas he flies around the world in a sled pulled by eight . . . or was it nine . . . anyway, pulled by reindeer, delivering presents to all the good children in the world."
Syrus frowned. "Nii-san, that's not true."
Zane smiled. "I know. It's for little kids."
"I think it's stupid. Christmas is stupid."
"You're wrong there, Sy. Christmas makes everybody nicer."
"Oh yeah . . . I noticed that. Why does it do that?"
" I don't know . . . I don't think anybody does. Some people call it the spirit of Christmas."
"So a spirit goes around and makes everybody nice?"
"I guess . . . I really don't know the whole story. Well, we're here."
Syrus looked around, stunned. He hadn't even noticed that they were inside the Academy, and yet here they were, in the hospital wing. "That was fast."
Zane shrugged and let Syrus get down onto a bed. "I guess."
Syrus looked up at his nii-san. "Are you going back to your dorm now?"
Zane crossed his arms. "I can't do that. I mentioned earlier that Christmas was for families. So, I guess that means I have to stay here with you tonight."
Syrus' eyes lit up. "Really?"
Zane smiled. "Yup."
"But won't you be bored?"
Zane shook his head and ruffled his little brother's hair. "Merry Christmas Syrus."
